  1. Negative, they operate on totally different frequency bands and are not compatible. The current system operates in the UHF T-Band (470-478 MHz), whereas the new system operates in the 700 MHz band.

By the way, to expand a little on Seth's post...$6 million is budgeted for 2014, however the total budget for the system is (at least) $30 million over the next 5 years.

Rockland's system was around the same cost, with approximately $12 million of it going towards the price of the radios (90 base stations, 850 mobiles, 1,600 portables). Rockland's system cost also factored in 6 UHF fireground receivers each at all 10 sites, as well as a 10-site simulcast UHF fire paging system...so it's not really an apples to apples comparison with Westchester, but gives you some idea of the cost of the radios.

Yep I overlooked the frequencies which would have given me the answer. Thanks for the info.

  2. They keep raising the parkway and it keeps sinking. The material under the parkway can't handle the weight in that area. The water will always win. Pilings need to be driven into the ground for a causeway so the water can stay under the parkway. The State will never go for it because it is expensive.

That's not the only road in the area that needs work. The infrastructure around here is old.

  3. Nice looking rig!

A couple question if you don't mind:

    1) Was there an option for an extended cab for more leg room (not a 4-door like FDNY)

    2) With this chassis choice, what is the difference in load height (for the strecher) versus the E-series (non 4WD) Ford chassis? The 4WD chassis here looks pretty low, it has a real nice stance and appears to be a reasonable height.

    3) Is that a camera in the patient compartment?

    To answer your questions,

While there may be an option for an extended cab you don't need it with an F series. There is plenty of room for the driver and front passenger.

This F series chassis is higher than the E series. It is at the limit of the load height for our stretchers. This truck is equipped with rear air suspension (which makes for a nice ride in the back) that lowers the rear doors to a manageable height for loading and unloading.

Yes that is a camera in the patient compartment. It functions just like a back-up camera, CCTV not recorded and must be manually activated to view.

  6. I have no idea who is planning on showing up. If I hear anything closer to the 8th I will post it.

Best route from Tappan Zee into Westchester is after the tolls on the bridge, stay on 287, get on to the Saw Mill Parkway North. When you get to your first traffic light on the parkway, Marble Ave, get off there and at the next light make a left. PVAC is down the street on your left about 1/4 mile after Mcdonalds.

If you cannot use the parkway, stay on 287, and get off at exit 1 RT 119. Take 119 East untill you get to RT 9A (Saw Mill River Road). Get on RT 9A North and take it to the Pleasantville/Sleepy Hollow Exit. Its an exit ramp on the LEFT. At the light make a right. You will pass two lights, all for Pace University. You will stay on that road and you will pass over the parkway. At the 7/11 or Lukoil bear right and at the next light make a right. PVAC will be down the street on the Right.

If this is too confuseing let me know.
