  4. Before reading what I am going to post about the updates regarding Bonnie, I want everyone to know that all of the information that I have was either provided to me by Bonnie's mother or one of two people who are like family to her. Bonnie was aware on Tuesday that her right arm had to be amputated due to the extent of damage suffered in the accident. It goes without saying that when she was told that her arm was gone, she became very upset. They gave her a CT scan which revealed fractures in C4 & C5 vertabrae along with some swelling and damage to her spinal cord. They put a halo on her to manage these fractures. The damage to her spinal cord has caused her to not be able to move her legs, but I was told that she is starting to get some sensation back below her waist. This is the most recent information that I have available for everyone. Bonnie has a very long road ahead of her and she is going to need ongoing continuous support from all of her family, friends, co-workers and members of the EMS community. She is a strong brave and heroic young lady who will not give up on herself. Please continue to keep Bonnie in your thoughts, hearts & prayers. You can also show your support for her by attending the blood drive that will be held this Friday at the Florida FD from Noon-2000 hrs and by making donations to the RPS/Regional EMS Benevolent Fund. http://www.rps10-13.com/ Douglas S. 5. GET WELL SOON BONNIE!!!!!! There is so much love and support for you, probably more than you know right now.
  6. $30K per vehicle per month? Most likely, it is $30K a month that covers all their vehicles.
  7. Anyone going to the JEMS EMS Today Expo in Baltimore at the end of this month?
  8. Anyone Going???? ANYONE???? BUELLER!!!??
  9. IT happens. You never hear about the "misfires" that cops have had in the PD stations.
  10. This is good for when you are going to a call and someone doesnt move out of your way!!! LOL!
  11. KVI Uniforms & Equipment has moved to a new location (50 Carpenter Ave) in Middletown, NY. Their new store is 6 times larger than their previous location. They are now open 6 days a week with longer store hours. They are an authorized full line 5.11 tactical equipment dealer and they carry pretty much every brand of uniform and equipment with the exception of Blauer. They do business with about half of the PDs, FDs and EMS agencies within Orange County. With the large number of residents who live in the area who work for NYPD and FDNY, they also carry NYC spec uniforms and related equipment. They do emroidery and screen printing on site. In addition to the items listed above, they are also a dealer of FireDex turnout gear, they sell Carhart clothing, scrubs and boy/cub scout uniforms and Red Wing shoes and boots. As of right now, they do not have a website for their business, but there is one in the works. I would like to congratulate Bill and Kim (the owners) on their new store and I wish them great success.
  12. Oneeyedmedic, Their prices are very fair compared to some of the other places around the area. They are not out to screw people over on the prices, especially when they know if that an individual is paying for something and not their agency. If and when you go there, ask to see Bill or Kim, they are the owners. Tell them that the Captain from Chester Ambulance recommended them and sent you there and make to let them know the distance that you travled to get there. They should take care of you. Doug

  14. Oneeyedmedic, They dont have a website yet, but they do have A LOT of stuff in stock. It may be worth taking the ride up there. I am not sure why the maps gave you different directions. If it helps you find the place, it is near the main entrance to the Orange County Fairgrounds.
  15. As Captain of my VAC, I came up with an SOP a while back in reference to taking the bus out "for a ride" or to "get something to eat". It states that the crew on call "the duty crew" may take the bus out to go anywhere in our district whether it be to eat or take care of something personal or stop by their residence etc. If the crew wishes to leave the district for any reason, they must contact a Line Officer, state the reason why they want to leave the district and ask permission to leave the district. In our district there are no eating establishments that are open 24/7 except McDonalds, so often times my duty crews call me and ask if they can go to the neighboring town that has a 24/7 diner. 99.9% of the time, we will grant the crew permission to leave the district. One of our other neighboring Towns has the hospital that we take the majority of our patients to. Without asking for permission, any of the duty crews may take the bus to go "hospital shopping". I do not mind having my crews out driving around our district. I feel that it shows the public that we are out there and available if they need us for some reason. When they get toned out for a job, they immediately drop what they are doing and they respond to the job. We do not have any rules that state that when our members are "on duty" that they must be at our HQ. Many of my members ride from home and when they get a job, they respond to our HQ to get the bus. This sometimes takes several minutes. Having a crew already out on the road leads to a quicker response time. Even if they are in a neighboring Town, they can get to the call in around the same time it would take a crew that is riding from home to assemble for the job. The two most common places that my crews go to outside of the district are very close to our district line and the highway and another main road that leads back to our area, so it does not take them long to get back into the district. I do not feel that there is any extra liability when our crews responds code 3 thru another district while going back to our district to take a job. We have spoken to our insurance carrier numerous times and they have no issue with it either. They have stated that if something happen outside of the district our coverage would be the same as if something happened within our own district.
  16. I have not seen that exact patch, but I have seen a "tactical" patch that is similar to that. It has a black background and everything else is gray. KVI Uniforms in Middletown, NY (Orange County) has them.
  17. Here is a link to this new radio: http://www.thalescomminc.com/liberty/html/...iberty%20AD.pdf I received first hand info that a PD in Rockland County is testing a few of these radios. The inside info I got was that the cost of the radio is over $10K and the vehicle mounted charger/convertcom that pretty much turns the radio into a mobile radio also has a cost if $10K
  18. We had a mechanic who used to come to our VAC to service our buses and he told us he did an oil change and put a new oil filter on when in fact he didnt do the work. Needless to say, he's not our mechanic anymore.
  19. I would say that this vehicle is the POV of a FD Chief or an EMS Line Officer that has permission to run red lights and sirens in their POVs.
  20. I like the comment about the callers vagina! LOL! That was great!
  21. Advocates are ignoring the protests of first responders By Timothy M. Kennedy Updated: 02/09/08 6:42 AM I was shocked by the blatant self-interest that was exhibited in two guest editorials in last Saturday’s News regarding the Statewide Wireless Network. One column was authored by Russ Tremblay of M/A Com, the multibillion- dollar contractor charged with building the system in question. The second was authored by Karl Felsen, the public information officer for the New York State Office for Technology, which administers the program. The concept of the network is admirable. Unfortunately, those at the Office for Technology have put their own personal, professional and financial wellbeing ahead of the public. They seem to be the only voices who continue to speak favorably of the project in its current form. While they pat themselves on the back and pronounce what a swell product they have, the first responders have denounced that claim, the City of Buffalo opted out of the system and Erie County rejected the notion of being a full partner. Consequently, taxpayers are left holding the bill, which is conservatively estimated to cost more than $2 billion statewide, if implemented. As a member of the Erie County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee, I put my full faith in the City of Buffalo Police and Fire departments, Erie County Central Police Services, Erie County Fire Advisory Board, Erie County Sheriff’s Department and Erie County E-911 Committee to tell me what their equipment needs are. I trust their opinion. Uniformly, these professionals have rejected the proposed development of the network as is. Their rejection is for good reason. Multiple testing and coverage issues, inability to determine protocol, development delays and failures of similar systems have led Erie County and the City of Buffalo to go their own way. Many in the public safety arena that will be forced to utilize this system have raised serious objections about the cost, technology and implementation. We should continue to trust the opinion and judgment of those first responders who may end up in a life-or-death situation where mission-critical radio communications are needed to protect lives. I urge the state to grant a request made by various public officials and members of Congress to Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Deputy Public Safety Secretary Michael Balboni. Please hire a third-party, independent consultant to determine if this system actually works and meets the federal standards for interoperable communications. The consultant must be managed by any state agency other than the Office for Technology. If the Office for Technology and the contractor who has been awarded the contract are left to make this decision on their own, it seems only their interests will be awarded and that of local first responders will be sidelined, along with the taxpayers. If they choose to continue down the current path, they are heading one step closer to the brink of the cliff. Quite frankly, they already have one foot off the edge. Timothy M. Kennedy represents the 2nd District on the Erie County Legislature.
