  1. The bottom line is Dutchess County can not do a damn thing about this. There are no local or state laws that place fire supression at the county level. The main misconception "Dutchess County Taxpayers" the only thing that the County supports is the 911 center and a lot of is done with a tax on phones. The fire district, village or City sets the level of staffing, equipment and how the department operates. Finally ask yourself this do you want the County come in a say you don't need this equipment it is going to.... It is local tax driven. Untill that is changed nothing will happen.
  2. I was up in the new St. Francis ER last night and was surprised by space they have. Maybe the close up and tight spaces the old ER was at times trying. To move the cot use to be tight at times. The huge space they now have is impressive. My only problem is the tight turn with the temporary door you use to enter. And the equipment storage on the ambulance dock looks like a yard sale. What does the rest of the group think?
  3. No they plan to use 155.340
  4. This is a game played by people who have been caught! If it comes down to it the wig would be be off if it would help them get away with something. I have done intake at a state correctional facility where a long hair bottle blonde male inmate stood there and said "I am a native american you can't cut my hair"The run to PC may be the death of us. No he wasn't a Native American he wanted to get his female hormones also
  5. The Dutchess plan is tailored to the fire distriict,City, that the incident is in. The first alarm assignment then fill in of ambulance-fire/rescue that is needed. The plan is sent to Chiefs and EMS operations for changes and updates. Fire/EMS gets on scene gives a patient count that gets the ball rolling.
  6. Depends on the system you work in. The levels in Dutchess show the amount of ambulance responce. Out on the street you count and give that number to the 911 center. The level will reflect the number of patients you called in. They also will bring in the rest of the gang,Rescues, manpower, etc.
  7. No one trapped except for two dogs after the fir was knocked both of them poked their heads out. It was a site they were brought with a couple of bones unharmed.
  8. What towns get their coverage for free? I don't know any district that do not support a system except for the City of Pughkeepsie. If you want a medic or ambulance 24/7 your putting up some money up front. The higher call volume the less up front money.
  9. The "cheap" birds are out again signing their song. 4,700 calls would barley support 1 als ambulance crew no less 4 fly cars without support. How do these pols think you staff pull up to a street corner and hire for the day? As for a county wide model that will cost about the same or more to run as 1.8 mil. The same story in Dutchess town shelling out the money for services they took for granted and then expected 24/7 on the cheap. The only thing better is Gov. and his actions.
  10. The non EMT while they are a part of our squad for them to become an EMS officer NO! The only regular non EMT on our ambulance is the driver. Other non EMTs ride if they are in school(EMT). Only the civil officers are allowed to be non EMT. Our drivers will get name, DOB etc. But the EMT calls all shots on patient care.
  11. We got the holder when we bought our chair. It dosen't hold a jumbo D well (tight) a normal D no problem. Worth it yes. If you have a limited crew or help around you have one less thing to worry about.
  12. Found this on the EMS1.com site Mass. EMTs to get training. This story starts off sounding good "FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — A $62,000 survey project, funded by the MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation and conducted by Massachusetts Bay Community College, aims to improve "cultural competency" among emergency responders in the Framingham area, who are often called upon to serve members of the immigrant community." Sounds good may help but no where in the story are thry going to draw from the emergency services community. It would help if the writer from the Boston Globe worte"Project organizers will use the collected information to compile a training manual to help police officers, firefighters, and ambulance drivers better understand cultural impediments to effective delivery of services." AMBULANCE DRIVERS the Ambulance rider don't count? Some of the quotes ""How can paramedics know that somebody in my family is allergic to penicillin?" asked Wallace Nascimento, a Framingham resident for 20 years and president of the nonprofit Allan Kardec Spiritist Society of Marlborough, and a volunteer helping project organizers." He has been here 20 years come on. While EMS needs to understand some cultural norms that may cause people to delay care or be afraid of the people in uniform a little education both ways would do a lot of good.
  13. One of the candidates for mayor in the City of Beacon, Steve Gold, has posted a letter on what I would do with the fire department. This is starting to turn into a storm.
  14. Makes you think that dispatcher was taking a nap when they had the part of the class they call we haul.
  15. Just another town that did not know how good they had it till it it was gone. The town had no cash input to PVFD because the fire district handled the ambulance cost and upkeep. Now when the town board walks in and wants full service on the cheap they act surprised. What will Beekman do when they get the same bill?
  16. Yea Bob it is important. Ask the guy who they thought planted the bomb at the 96 Alanta games. As for bubba they just don't care anymore. A few get beat up and worked over but look at the NYS DOJ website and search the offender database. Put in a zipcode where Fishkill Correctional or Downstate are and see the list of them. Unless the guy is known or the other cons has family the guy harmed their crime is not know. Due process saves the group from a legal battle that only line the lawyers pocket.
  17. BIG Shout to EFPD for "routine" police work. There is little a goup can do. The threat of lawsuit prevent the people from being thrown out till they found guilty or are listed as a an offender. Backround checks only find things they did. You get into trouble if you look at someone and say no can't take you, cause you look like a perv.....
  18. Well the problem for Beekman is solved. Empire Ambulance got the contract from Bliss. Now can the town afford the ambulance sitting in the town?
  19. At the VAC that I ride on use a commerical service to do the backround checks. Also DMV checks are done. We have had a couple of people who were not trueful in their application. It is worth the money. The problem with Peskill is the member may have no record when he joined.
  20. The sign is a promo for Cort TV "ParcoPI" a billboard was seen in LA too.
  21. Oliver Stone, Here comes a movie that will have all the half baked crack pot theories that you can shake a popcorn bucket at.
  22. Has anyone worked on Medix ambulances? Our squad is looking for vendors and would like to know if the make is worth a look. Thanks Phild
  23. I was up getting ready for work with started mid day when Fox 5 went off the air I went to find cable channels. I saw the image of the north tower burning and saw the fireball from the south tower. I called into work and went to the ambulance building. There were other members down at the building too and we waited. My squad is 60 miles north of NYC and we had no idea what would be needed. The local EOC went active and we preped for the worst. Our county sent our BLS ambulance down to Garrision to stand by and there we waited. GFD and GVAC were good hosts and we watched TV all day / Eve. Around 11pm we were returned to our quarters. It had to be the quietiest time I ever listen to county radios little or no calls occured. Never Forget!
