  1. Good shots - post more if you have them - I have been waiting for Jetphoto or Photounit to post up..

I listened to that fire from the beginning...awesome job by 42-1...never met him but he is always a professional..as are his men.

And PECO's "truck" has seen more fire duty that alot of the area's "real" ladders...I love that rig!

Love me some Big City Fries to boot!

    Good job fellas.

    Dan,

Dean Scofield is Car 1 and does a great job there. They have a great bunch of guys there and do the job right. Always have that "truck" going somewhere and ground ladders are always being used. I enjoy working with the guys at FFD and had the pleasure to work with them on the Saulsbury they bought a few years ago!

  2. Isn't this a former ALF facility?

Funny, after they ruined the Saulsbury name and shut down their NY plant after buying them out, they are returning to NY for stainless steel fabrication.

Wonder what their game plan is?

Funny alot of people don't realize that the Saulsbury plant was so far in the red prior to E-One purchasing them that the only way out was for the Saulsbury family to sell or go bankrupt and close the facility. E-One operated the plant for about 5 years or so and the only mistake made by E-One was prematurely shutting the plant down as it was on the way back and was profitable towards the end. (That president is no longer with the company). It's easy to say they ruined the Saulsbury name but they were paid alot of money for a facility/brand that was not going to be around long anyway.

  3. I believe the Phoenix, AZ Fire Department has removed SCBAs from the cab cited them as a possible hazard should they dislodge from the mounts during a collision.

my understanding was that they removed the SCBA so the personnel would stay seated in the cabs and seatbelted in, if they were donning a SCBA during a response it was unlikely they were belted in and injury was more likely in case of an accident.

  4. There are literally THOUSANDS of trail cameras in the woods, all over New York...and that number grows everyday...WHY aren't there ANY pictures of these "big cats" out there?

There are no mountain lions here in NY, especially in the Hudson valley area...what they saw, as described in the article, were bears. Black bears coming out of hibernation.

Would have to disagree on this one, when i first moved to Sharon the neighbors were talking about seeing an "animal" that i could not figure out from their description, my wife saw it twice and the second time she was able to get a picture of it ( not a very clear one) which clearly showed a large cat like animal with a long "looping" tail, the picture could be debated and has been so we left it alone and have not seen anything since, this was about three years ago. Quite a few years ago there was repeated reports of a pair of these cats on the moutain behind Silo Ridge golf course??

  5. It doesn't surprise me that DEC is trying to downplay the possibility. Large cats (not bobcats) have been sited in upstate areas for at least 6 years that I know of. Friends of ours near Cooperstown had a picture that could only be described as a very large cat taken by a trail camera.

In Broome Co last year, several goats and sheep were killed. DEC said the kills were likely from bear, a theory not upheld by the number and manner of the kills.

DEC continously denies that these cats exist in NYS. They also deny, as "rumors", that they are responsible for the big cats' return to NYS. Allegedly, they re-introduced the cats as natural preditors to help control the deer and coyote populations.

I agree 100%, i was going to reply with the same basic information, there have been Mountain Lion "sightings" reported a few times to DEC officials who give you the "look" that would make you think they know something we don't.

  6. Washington Engine (Tarrytown FD) 1980 Hahn after being replaced by the current TL-78, prior to being donated to the Pinecrest, TN Fire Department.

Riverside Hose (Tarrytown FD) 1941 Seagrave, reportedly the first mobile radio on a fire apparatus in the US, in the process of being restored.

Where is the Hahn located in this photo?? there is a similar rig at the Lake George Escape campground but i thought that one was an old Ossining rig. It looks familiar next to the boat trailers.

  7. -OK, Here's my take (I was there) It was a woodworking shop in an industrial complex. The fire was knocked down in the pix. The guy w/o helmet was driving the Engine, and did not enter the building. Hoods are a personal preference and not required. I'm not gonna comment on the waiststraps, it's been discussed many times on here before. A pic is a moment in time, a few minutes after pic, things may look totally different.

Well written response and a great job by YFD!!

  8. OK - this nulls my theory. Many years ago I heard that these 3-digit numbers indicated how far away the apparatus was from NYC. For example, Pleasant Valley E-165 was the 165th engine away from the NYC border... Millbrook 210 was the 210th engine away from the NYC border, etc. etc...

But if Glenham was 360's... this theory wouldn't make any sense, due to the fact that Glenham is closer to NYC than PV and MB.

Oh well... maybe the world will just never know the true meaning........ or maybe the old timers like Heck or Kaehler might know...

I had heard that this was some form of "Civil Defense" numbering(not sure of how true this is) and that was obviuosly way before my time, i know Wassaic used those numbers right up to when the new numbering system in Dutchess was put in place, i know some old Chiefs from that era, i'll have to ask.
