Correct I'm employed, and I'm hardly out of the loop. As INIT pointed out, numerous agencies are recruiting and hiring. You have asked about agencies in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. I find it difficult to believe that in a 3 state search you can't find an EMS agency hiring, especially considering the ever-so-prevalent high turnover rate with most EMS agencies. The agency I work for is a smaller agency in the grand scale and we've picked up several paramedics in the past few months.
Just looking at websites for Empress, SeniorCare, and TransCare, all 3 companies indicate they are hiring paramedics and have online application features you can take advantage of.
Have you been for interviews? Have you been offered employment anywhere and turned it down? Have you had someone in the field who you respect review your resume for you? Maybe he/she can offer some constructive feedback to help make you more of an appealing potential employee by restructuring your resume if you're having a difficult time getting hired.

If they have legitimate training... Prove it. Present your FF credentials and CFR/EMT certifications. Don't just cry to the news that you're legit and "why's everybody picking on us?" without providing some form of documentation from a legitate training venue indicating they have at least the minimum necessary training.

Out of control and should be shut down? If you feel thats the case, hit the report button, thats what it is there for. This thread and it's posts have so far been professional, mature, and a lot of decent points have been made about other options that may have been available to YHFD instead of continuing to build a firehouse that the taxpayers said no to not once, but twice. Instead of stomping your feet that this thread is "out of control and should be shut down", how about providing an educated, well thought out rebuttal as to why the firehouse is a necessity. And please stop with the "people are against us cause we're volunteer" nonsense; quite frankly its getting really old. If someone from YHFD would like to provide some information as to this firehouse, I'm sure everyone would respect some insight. Personally I think it's silly to go forward with this build considering the close proximity of Millwood, and as my parents are taxpayers in Yorktown, I'm curious how many firefighters live in the south end of town to staff the apparatus. That opinion is based on facts provided by others... My opinion can be changed if someone can offer up a logical argument to convince me otherwise.

You must be very popular at your firehouse, it is always nice to have some one around that knows everything and never makes mistakes. It is also nice to know and I'm sure you take pride in the fact you "ususally never call to initiate help for people"

Is it really all of us who don't get it, or is it just you? It's been clearly established you were wrong. Just plain wrong. Yet, you continue to want us to take your side over this calltaker, who it sounds was just doing her job, and doing it well. Why should we blindly side with you over your unwarranted and nasty criticisms? Just because your "on the job"? Your not impressing anyone here. Everyone here is "on the job". You keep doubling down, yet you remain in the wrong. Why should we side with you? You have the nerve to come on this forum, call out this dispatcher, and now, in retrospect, we see it's for no legitimate reason. In all your posts, you have failed to identify how this woman was incompetent.
As for your last thought, I'm glad I don't work with you either, because you seem to have a poor attitude, no attention to detail, and a short fuse. I would have a miserable time dealing with that full-time. Additionally, if while driving "55 mph on a highway" you can't see the MPM, then you may have serious vision issues. I don't want someone like that backing me up. I also don't want someone backing me up who doesn't have the integrity and fortitude to admit when he or she made a mistake. Finally, I don't want anyone working with me who sterotypically believes workers may be inferior, just because they are female. So for once, you said something I agree with, I don't want to work with you either. :-)

Yes, it's everyone else here... No one here has an issue with criticism, when the criticism is warranted, legitimate, and reasonable, which your criticism was significantly lacking.

Yes you're correct, I typed it in a rush... 42/44 and 46/48 share radio divisions, thanks for pointing it out

If the 44/46 precincts can exist on the same radio division, I think WCPD can handle their current radio traffic load...

One would question how much control the city can exude over it's Police Officers when they're off duty. Truth is, you can get suspended for just the "I" part of DWI. It's called "Unfit for Duty". Because NYC Police Officers are considered "on-duty" 24/7/365 (besides their annual vacation weeks), the NYPD prohibits it's Police Officers from becoming intoxicated... ever... in a bar, in your house, at a BBQ, at a wedding. Is it enforced ever? Actually yes it is, so off-duty conduct is monitored and regulated in more then one way by the City.
  15. streetdoc liked a post in a topic by JJB531 in NYPD Officers Banned from Wearing NYPD Logo
Yes, I'm very well aware of that, and more then likely that's the direction this whole logo controversy is going to head in, granted the unions allow individuals to use their logos for the purpose of making shirts, hats, etc. It still though prevents shirts and hats bearing the logos of specific units from within the NYPD from being displayed without authorization.
  16. streetdoc liked a post in a topic by JJB531 in NYPD Officers Banned from Wearing NYPD Logo
The issue is that the majority of the stuff worn by NYPD members are T-shirts made by individual units or precincts, which is all considered "non-licensed NYPD merchandise" because it's not endorsed or sold by the department. The sale of these shirts and hats help fund precinct functions, and instills a sense of pride and comraderie amongst the members, and now that is being taken away unfortunately. But, sometimes those of us in emergency services are our own worst enemy, and obviously someone was wearing some inappropriate article of clothing that represented the NYPD in a negative manner, and the department decided to drop the hammer.
  17. streetdoc liked a post in a topic by JJB531 in NYPD Officers Banned from Wearing NYPD Logo
In all honesty, it really makes no sense, but it is what it is. Some guys in the NYPD are proud to be NYPD officers, and are proud to wear certain articles of clothing that represents the department, their precinct, their unit, or their assignment. What it comes down to is just another way the department can ensure that no one does anything (or wears anything) that is going to give the department a negative image in the public eye.
  18. streetdoc liked a post in a topic by JJB531 in NYPD Officers Banned from Wearing NYPD Logo
It's not about liability, and I would highly suggest that any active members of the NYPD refrain from egregious commentary in a public forum on this newest regulation imposed by the department.

Traffic Management Center is the NYC term for TMC, hence my description of TMC since that's what I'm accustomed to...

    Mile Post Markers:
First, you claimed that you referenced to the calltaker the Taconic/BRP Interchange which is MPM 0.00 on the Taconic. Simultaneously, it is MPM 19.12 on the Bronx River Parkway.
Then you claimed that it was right in front of the TMC which is MPM 12.62 on the Sprain Brook Parkway, NOT the Taconic. The Lower Taconic branches off before reaching the TMC.
Now, you claim it was a quarter mile south of the 9A ramp, which could reference EITHER the 141/9A Interchange located at MPM 2.87 on the Taconic OR the newer 9A ramp which is located at MPM 4.67 on the Taconic. Now, you say a quarter mile south of that, which would put you at MPM 4.42 (from the new ramp) OR MPM 2.62 (from the 141/9A ramp). Now the second one would put you on the Lower Taconic.
Now, this whole time, this calltaker is probably thinking to herself "...well, he can't mean the Taconic at all, now can he, because the TMC is on the Sprain, not the Taconic. Maybe if he gives me the MPM, I'll know exactly where he is, so I don't have a Trooper driving all over the place looking for this van!..." So she asks you for the MPM to help clarify things, but at this point, you've decided she's too "mildly retarded" and it all goes down hill from there. Did I get that about right?
See how just reading the next MPM you saw could have avoided all this confusion? You can try to spin this all you want, but it seems obvious to me (and others here) that her follow-up question was reasonable, and not really anything you should have gotten angry over.
Any dispatchers here agree/disagree? Maybe JBE, will chime in. Asking for a MPM a reasonable follow-up question?

Way to double-down and not just admit you made a mistake. So, if I understand you right, calltakers/dispatchers who try to get precise locations of incidents being called in are either "mildly retarded" or "dopes"? And males are better dispatchers then females?
I can only speak for myself, but I appreciate when communications personnel do their best to get good info from callers. It saves time, manpower, and aggravation in running down bad leads because callers are too inept, lazy, or just unable to provide good information. I'm also glad calltakers also realize that even those "on the job" can and do make mistakes, so taking their word as gospel without taking basic steps to confirm it is malfeasance. And some of the best dispatchers I know are female, so, I'm not sure what gender has to do with it.

Traffic Management Center... believe it's run by the State Department of Transportation, responsible for traffic conditions on the highways (MVA's, Disabled Vehicles, Lane Closures for various reasons, etc.)

Good point, like you said that actually isn't the split. That exit off the Taconic leads you from the TSP to the Lower Taconic, which then merges in to the Bronx River Parkway down by the Kensico Dam. Guess it was a good thing she was asking for that mile marker before she sent someone looking for a disabled in the location you gave her (Taconic/BRP split), which was actually the wrong location.

How about just answering her question instead of giving her a hard time... is it really that big of a deal that you had to run on here to post tihs "horrible" experience you had? Did you ever consider maybe she was new?
