  1. I would bet a testicle that a parent or someone saw him and it was a big time CYA move. That Is a small town and word was likely spreading like wildfire.
  2. Well the difference is the concentration of oil is higher in the 40:1 gas/oil mix. You can run your 50:1 tools with 40:1 fuel but the opposite is not advisable. Seperate fuel at the proper mix ratio for each engine would be best.
  3. We will be lucky to get our scores in 3 months....
  4. I knew what they were doing on that section of the exam (those profile are very accurate in 99% of cases), I am just wondering how they quantify the profile into a numeric score???
  5. Questions 6-110 in booklet #2 was a version of a classic psychological test commonly referred to as a "Personality Assessment Inventory".... That portion of that exam was measuring the "big five" personality traits which are Neuroticism, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness to Experience. Each of the big five are broken down further into catagories such as; vulnerability to stress, assertiveness, feelings, compliance, deliberation etc. For example on questions where you had to answer a question relating to your core values if you consistently answer in the positive or negative but toward the middle of the scale that may signal a personality trait like "Conscientious-deliberating-compliant". What really troubles me is how is the city going to assign a number grade to a personality profile? Maybe they don't plan to? It is quite possible they may only deduct if certain undesirable personality traits are present..... Other than the psyc I thought the test was very very simple. Everyone I have spoken to that took left with that same impression.
  6. I wonder how much money Apple had to pay Cisco to use the iphone name...Cisco Trademarked the term "iphone" in 1996. They have a wireless VOIP phone on the market that they call the iphone.
  7. Talk to some real old timers (seniors) and you will hear stories of ice skating on the Hudson for goodness sake. The question is: Is this a normal (but accelerated by humans) cycle for planet earth? We don't have enough data about climate before the last ice age, so is realistic to think that there is a yin to that yang?
  8. Over the last 10 years of volunteer service I have seen reprimands, suspensions, formal hearings, and one person thrown out of a department. I think volunteer departments are constantly changing organisms because Chiefs change so often. Some are much more lenient and in some cases oblivious than others...
  9. You can get one for just under 240k...I'll take two please
  10. My fire department runs EMS, we have a classification of membership referred to as "Medic". It is a recognized membership tier detailed in our department by-laws that allows for personnel to belong to the FD without being forced to attend FF1 and FF2 to remain in good standing. There are specific criteria set fourth in the by-laws about call percentages and training that they must meet to stay a medic member in good standing. Without reading through the bylaws I do not know the specific requirements they need to meet.
  11. Beware of master streams being lobbed over 4 lanes of highway
  12. I am 99.9% sure that upon transmission of 10-75 in Croton a FAST is dispatched per our SOG's.
  13. I had heard Senate was going to sell it, some of the Ossining companies own their buildings.
  14. Any word on the awards?
  15. That is out of NFPA 1500...... As to the question what are the repercussions....If the crew are all NYS certified Interior firefighters I don’t see a liability issue. But I wouldn’t want a bunch of probies coming in after my rotund behind.
  16. Holy shite that rig is frigging ginormus, looks good even though I despise all raised cab apparatus (aesthetically not functionally).
  17. I would bet the sheer size of the newer apparatus has alot to do with the increase in their involvement in traffic accidents. We have 3 engines in my department, my engine used the be the largest in town by far. When the new 119 is delivered in six weeks or so mine will then be the smallest... Be safe
  18. E118.......1993 Salisbury/HME I do Like all the Seagraves above. Can't stand anything with a raised cab...
  19. When I called late last week they wouldn't give me any info other than "The test has not been officially announced, when it is announced we will give you all the info we have. You guys find out about these tests before we do"
  20. I'm very sure Croton would participate
  21. First, if you cant tell you have a kink with a TFT its news to me, Ive had plenty an can always tell. Second, I will agree that if you have a pump WITHOUT flow meters you should not even consider using automatic nozzles. The MPO has to be on the ball, my engine does have flow meters and all of our operators are trained to watch flow very closely. I am not anti smooth bore, in fact am a proponent of them on pumps with no flow meters and line over 2". As for the second part go look at the low pressure tft flow/reaction charts on their web site....I would be happy to get together with you and flow some water, I didnt believe it myself until I did it. We ran the 1000gal (950 in reality) gal tank on 118 dry with 2 2" in operation in 116 seconds (I think its been a few years)
  22. I'm a big guy and have no issue with me and any other guy on a 2" line. I have heard 2 smallish guys complain about the 2".... There was a comment above about "throwing out" all nozzels other than smooth bore. I will be happy to show in reality that I can get more water with less reaction force out of the automatic compensating TFT tips we run than a 15/16 smooth bore. We dont use the TFT's on 2.5" 0nly 2".
  23. I was referring to advancing and maneuvering the 2.5, the actual operation does not require the additional men. Don't get me wrong there is no substitute for 2.5 attack line.
  24. My engine company did away with 1 3/4" hose about five years ago. We run 2" on our crosslays and high rise kit, as 585 alluded to we do have a 250' 2 1/2" pre-connected in the hose bed (with 350 more under it). I strongly recommend to everyone reading this to try 2" line, it is not very much different to handle than 1 3/4" and it flows a ton more water. We have flow meters on all of our discharges and the rule of thumb I use as a MPO is 300GPM for 3 average size firefighters. It sounds like a ton of water, and it is, but is not difficult to handle. A long time Chief Driver from my company has no problem running over 350 gpm with our normal crew (Our 3 most regular interior guys are all over 250lb). I’m a very heavy yet strong guy and 2 1/2" is a real pain with any less than 3 plus an officer IMO. Obviously, for commercial structures or structures that are well involved there is no substitute for 2 1/2".... But I know I feel much more comfortable with a 2" in my hand than a 1 3/4" in a hot spot.
