  1. Sparrowbush seeking bids for a new pumper-tanker.
  2. So, when IS the wetdown? "Inquiring minds want to know"....LOL!
  3. Yes, 4000 feet of 4 inch supply line on the reel. As for a wetdown, I would think that they will have one...although, as the past few years have shown, it's hardly a guarantee. Seems to be a dying tradition in some areas for any number of reasons. If I hear anything about it, I'll post it either here or in the Events thread (unless somebody else does first).
  4. "Here we go again"? Hey, it's a "free" forum....anyone that wants to post a listing of upcoming drills and training opportunities is more than welcome to do so! Since the subject line was altered to include "events" as well, let's see some wetdowns, too. I know they're not so common in Westchester, but there's plenty of Dutchess, Orange and Ulster people on here as well.
  5. I, too, can remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard of this. Kind of like the Kennedy situation, only I wasn't around yet for that one. Strangely enough, I have very little recollection of the second shuttle disaster. Rest in peace one and all.
  6. Port Jervis' new KME ladder is featured on KME's Facebook page. Sharp looking rig. They have jumped on the black over red bandwagon....displaying the colors of Port Jervis High School. Cornwall's ladder seems to be complete as well. Any other updates on bid awards/orders?
  7. In some areas, the manpower issue has affected parades as well as normal every day turnout. Large groups in line of march are not as common as they used to be (at least not "up here"), and the days of the apparatus looking like it just rolled out of the factory....well, that's the rare treat in a time when it used to be the norm. That having been said, I agree with some of the others: If you play "responsibly" and have made sure that your district is adequately covered, then there's nothing wrong with taking a few hours of a Saturday afternoon to enjoy yourself and show some pride in what you do.
  8. Nice variety of pics....thanks for sharing them.
  9. Nice looking rig....best of luck, GLFD! Update on Monroe.... they are looking to order a 2014 Smeal 75' heavy duty quint, pending the result of the permissive referendum. Haven't heard much else as of late.
  10. Pine Bush seeking bids for a new engine.
  11. Warwick's tanker is now on a Mack Granite chassis. As for their interest in KME, a friend who's on Raymond Hose told me that what they like about KME is the service. If something goes wrong, all they have to do is call KME (or the local dealer) and a mechanic is there the next day. With 4Guys, you have to take the truck to them, and that's not always convenient. As for any other department, could be the same thing. Could be preference. Could be those dreaded two words, "Low Bid". Who knows.
  12. Earlier in the thread, a Winona Lake member posted that there had only been two bidders, Pierce and KME. KME was apparently lower cost. I am curious to see if Winona's engine will still be in that cream/ivory color, the exact name of which escapes me at the moment. Add to the upcoming orders list Washington Heights, seeking to purchase a medium duty rescue.
  13. Thanks for the info! Couple others I forgot.... Source at Tuxedo told me "next June" for their two KMEs, but didn't specify if that was delivery or wetdown...or both. Also, Mechanicstown will take delivery of a new Seagrave engine in the second half of next year.
  14. Updates: Washingtonville's Ferrara engine has been delivered and, if I'm not mistaken, is now in service. Cornwall's new Pierce quint has started production. Goshen is seeking bids for a 3000 gallon pumper-tanker.
  15. Glad to hear they are not seriously injured. Hope everyone will make a full recovery.
  16. Famed stuntman turned director Hal Needham, known for numerous 1970s/80s Burt Reynolds films (most notably my all-time favorite, "Smokey and the Bandit"), passed away on Friday at the age of 82. Rest in peace, sir.
  17. One of many soon to be retired Macks I'd love to have.....if only I had the resources, and a place to keep it.
  18. Sharp looking rig. Best of luck Stamford FD....hope it performs as well as it looks.
  19. It was 2011, actually. People were saying "end of the year", but production had already ceased when the press release was issued in August of that year. I can't say that I was surprised based on how things had been going at the time, but was still sorry to see it actually happen.
  20. I don't know exactly how many I have - been a while since I attempted any kind of inventory - but I have a decent amount dating back almost to day one of the company. Fell on hard times a few years back and had to curtail my collecting, but hope to be able to fill in the blanks of what had to be passed up somewhere down the road.
  21. This was one of three events I attended yesterday in my various travels. Saw some great looking antiques that I'd never seen before...and hope to see again some day. Looking forward to next year.
  22. Fort Montgomery's new tanker is featured on KME's Facebook page, and may be on the New Deliveries page of their website as well.
  23. Nice shots of a great looking rig. Thanks for sharing them.
  24. Not sure why, but it's not the first time they've done that, nor are they they only department in the county that does. The practice does seem exclusive to engines, though. When they got the Pierce, it was a replacement for 156. The current 156 was the replacement for 159. I am a bit puzzled as to why they chose 158, as that is/was the number assigned to their antique Mack pumper. Maybrook and Washingtonville flip-flop numbers around as well. Maybrook's 218 was replaced by 210, and in about six months, if all goes well, they'll have another new engine which will replace 215 and be called (ironically enough) 218. Wash'ville replaced 580 with 583, and the soon to be delivered replacement for 582 is going to be called 584. Regarding Tuxedo, both new rigs are supposed to be the same manufacturer, and it's whoever got the low bid. So, unless there has been a change of plans, both will apparently be KME.
  25. KME custom pumper-tanker to replace the Ward LaFrance.
