  1. How could I forget - yes, absolutely! When i started here - dispatch and ops were on the same channel - more than I care to count, we had guys stretching in, asking for water as we were putting out the second alarm tones.....
  2. You can only get OUT of CAD, what you PUT into it.....simple. However, if you put volumes of information in, and only have 1 or 2 dispatchers working...dont expect alot back when it is busy...understaffing is a huge problem in 911 Centers, as with most of emergency services. Speaking for MY CAD, we have housewatches, alerts, (CIDS information equivilant for the FDNY guys), ie; locations of handicapped, dangerous dogs, unsafe building conditions, Officer Safety info, etc.. We use New World Systems...and it is OK...it's an ever evolving system taylored to our needs. Regardless what system you use, reliability is a must. And even then, you have to be knowledgable and proficient enough to be able to work without it if it goes down. THAT'S where us "buffs" really shine.
  3. Lotta wisdom is that post fellas......soak it in.
  4. I can not speak for Westchester, but I can say with absolute certainty, that in Dutchess, some departments get themselves invited to fires BY a Coordinator. I respect and love most of them, but if you disagree with me, you are kidding yourselves.
  5. Mmmmmmmmmmm........................BEER
  6. I for one think it is GREAT! Look at the press on this whole thing - the initial "feel good" story - and now this latest twist that ACTUALLY shows the WORLD, what those in emergency services experience every day, The manipulations, the milking of the system, and how we grow "desensitized and cold to it all". Welcome to the real world, as seen through the eyes of Emergency Responders World....ain't it effing grand?
  7. Yep...and just think, with red lights and a siren, you'll get there faster!
  8. BEASTMODE.
  9. Mehhh.....very annoying camera effects...pretty boring...we shall see... Pretty hard for A&E to follow up the success of Duck Dynasty, JACK! *edit; the last segment from Oklahoma was pretty good....but the closest police unit, 35 miles away......dannng. THAT sucks!
  10. I HATED that damn Pixis System thing they had,.......
  11. Thats the first thought I had when I saw this on the news.......
  12. Well...THAT looked like a stubborn job.
  13. Al was a member of the Montgomery Fire Department with my father, when he was a Lieutenant way back in the day. I used to love hanging out at the firehouse with him and the guys before my parents divorced. Timeframe for those familiar is during the construction of the current MFD Firehouse...although I have alot of fond memories of the old, brick firehouse they were in before that. I know Bob Pressler is a Chief over there now...someday i would like to go visit. I have alot of my father's MFD memorabelia. Interesting side story, and I apologize for getting off topic; Montgomery had an old ladder truck, beleive an International or a ford...in any event, I rode along with my Dad when he delivered it...to a Dutchess County department, Yes, the JH Ketcham Hose Company....MY company now...it was also the first ladder truck I ever climbed, during essentials, may back in 1990.
  14. One word; Iowa. Like....the whole state. MINE.
  15. I read on buff sites where Special Ops companies were dispatched to firehouses for rescues of firemen trapped in their buildings, forced to the upper floors.
  16. Just do it. You will regret it if you dont. Of course - you will regret it if you do too, so dont worry. Ahhhh....the romance of the volunteer fire service.
  17. Billy - what about the shooting we responded to by 304/74's house....a young John Scheidt as a medic student in the back...south on Broadway, right at mcClean...the person in the middle of the street...what was that he was pointing at us? You know, that thing he had shouldered? Right...an umbrella! HAhahahaaa......THAT was tense for a minute...."OMG he has a gun pointed at us!" Thank God I chose to brake hard and not run his stupid a** over! And if I were still your partner, we would have at LEAST 4 guns in the bus....
  18. "Please Insert $2.00 For The First 5 Minutes"
  19. Please do not quote me on that HIIPA idea - thats just MY thoughts...I cant really think of any other idea why to do it. From what i was told, "adult" encompasses age 12 and up. Again - just what I am hearing from some of the angrier guys out there...it does not effect me either way and I have the utmost respect for the dispatchers up there, many of whom I consider friends. Sadly, they have been getting beat up pretty good lately on social media, and quite unjustly.
  20. Recently, Dutchess County has switched over from dipatching EMS calls from, "21 year old male patient....", to, "adult patient"...they no longer state the patient age or sex, and many in the FD/EMS community disagree with it. I am not sure why it came about, but perhaps something to do with HIIPA? I prefer to know the patient age and sex personally, but it really doesnt "bother" me...they still send appropriate resources in a professional manner.
