a few sent from the shop today, the inner light bar installed, no it's not that 6' light the tech was using that you can see inside the cab, the PIAA off road lights are installed in the old headlight housing for extra lighting during night time ops as well as aiding in the poorly lit dirt roads that we encounter frequently and a few of the body showing the speedlay, foam storage areas at the front of the body and the cutouts for the spare bottles and other items to be stored there, as well as the hose bed and custom area that will hold the ladders, tools and suction.

I bought a ticket on behalf of all members here, and fully expect to win the Powerball drawing tommorow. I will post the ticket and our numbers tommorow.
Depending on how much is won and how many people post, each member who posts "I'm in" before 9 PM tommorow (Saturday May 17th 2013) in this thread will get $150,000 (hopefully much more), with the stipulation that an additional $25,000 must be donated to the charity of your choice.
Good luck to all who bought tickets!

We had a lady kept calling the house phone to tell about a cat in a tree. Used all the know answers to tell her to stop calling but after about 10 calls we said we will be right there. I pulled Engine 58 up blocked the road and put in pump. While my partner was talking to the lady I started to put the deck gun into position and she said to my partner what was I doing. I started to raise up the rpm and told her we were doing what see wanted and geting the cat out of the tree. No more phone calls !

What he is describing is common practice in many law enforcement agencies as well. Sounds to me like 13 DC's who all feel burnt because they were not chosen to be Chief, instead an outsider was.

Great, just what Orange County needs..... another department. We should be thinking about how to provide more streamline and consistent responses instead of forming another kingdom. Lets address the issues at hand (which is witnessed everyday lately) such as responding for calls of service in a timely manner with a crew (not 1 or 2 guys). Why do departments (usually the same departments everyday) continually not crew up for a call, yet no plans seem to ever be put in place to correct the problem? Last week there was a department who could not even get out for a structure fire, mutual aid departments who were sent (only after the first department could not crew) had to respond and extinguish the fire (good thing fire only doubles in size every 30-60 seconds).
This is the last thing Orange County needs, we should be working together towards consolidation and not duplicating resources.

Yes this is true as you have described it. I was the picture somewhere once- it was a very large spool at the top of a very steep hill. Form what I was told by my father and others, Gary Keuner was a well liked guy with an excellent reputation as a Firefighter, who died after becoming separated from his crew while searching for trapped occupants at a mumtiple alarm fire in a large H-type building with fire on multiple floors on arrival and numerous trapped (and subsequently rescued) occupants.

Capt Ellson was really a gentleman. I met him back in 2002 at a fire bell club meeting. Never once did you ever get the impression that he was better than anyone. We had a few chats and it was nice to speak to someone who did a lot of time on the job, although you would have never known it.

Rest in peace Cap, it was an honor to know you. Condolences to family ... Jim Jr. is the current Captain of Rescue Co. 3 in the Bronx.

Jim was one of my Lieut.'s in Rescue 1 back in the 'late 80's. He always had a smile on his face; never got excited at a fire /emergency; he exuded confidence at all times, and made you feel very confident when we encountered some "hairy" situations. He was such a gentleman, that we sometimes (behind his back) called him "Father Jim". I remember when his son would ride with us on some weekend night tours- now he is Capt. of Rescue 3 in the Bronx. The tradition continues! Heaven now has another great officer for the Lord's Fire Brigade!

Nice job in the trus Y.F.D. Tradition --Following in the tradition of the Y.F.D. Always looking out for the people of Yonkers. History repeats its self In the late 70's on Ashburton Ave. coming up from Alexander St. A truck from Philips wire lost a large wire spool. I believe it was Lt. Garry Kuehnen (LODD 377 North Bway 1983) who was off duty at the time and used his own station wagon to stop the spool of wire from hitting kids leaving the old Public School 6 on Ashburton Ave.

Arlington (fire and fire based transporting EMS with EMT/Paramedic)
City of Poughkeepsie (first response EMS only, transport by commercial EMS)
LaGrange (fire and fire based transporting EMS with EMT/Paramedic)
Fairview (fire based BLS transporting EMS)
City of Beacon (first response EMS only, transport by VAC EMS)
Pleasant Valley (first response EMS , transport by commercial EMS or vollie Ambulance with career member on occasion. Daytime staffing only for now)
New Hackensack (?...this one always escaped me..)
In addition, the Castle Point FD is a career, federal (I beleive; perhaps Beekman could verify?) department, that does not hire off of the civil service list.
Not sure if anyone is hiring, but every year more jobs are getting bigger due to dwindling volunteer ranks, except the PFD..they fighting for what little manpower they have)
And let me add - that if this test is valid for three years or so...i would ANTICIPATE volunteer departments in manpower crisis states to start looking to hire, even if they follow Pleasant Valley's lead with daytime only, and even if it is just as a "driver" capacity..but we all know that a foot in the door is a foot in the door, and today's "driver" will be tommorow's Senior Man.
