  1. Just remember this my fellow vollies........... If you drive like an 'Hole with a flashing blue light while in you POV when responding to a call, you're a 'Hole fireman driver. If you drive to a call without a blue light flashing, then your just an 'Hole driver. I rather be the the second, not the first cause I'll fit in with the other 'hole drivers out there and not make me a target as a fireman!!!
  2. Is this the last active Sleepy Hollow truck with "North Tarrytown" on it's doors?
  3. I wanted to add that quite honestly, unless they are requested for any alarm by the IC, they shouldn't be responding automatically anywhere. Not saying a canteen is not a good thing, but there needs to be an agreement with any agency they expect to service.
  4. There are other canteens in CT. Milford FD retirees and Box 22 associates in New Haven are two that I can think of. These two are affiliated with their local Departments. Barry, I am not sure of what legality running lights to call are for canteens in CT but I do know that some have lights so they can get into the scene. I'll see what I can come up with. I would assume at it would fall under The non priority response then only using lights at the scene for identification. (*)
  5. One of the towns in CT just opened up a brand new firehouse to replace their old headquarters costing $12 million. But the firehouse was well planned out with a separate apparatus bay area from the "living" area, a full training facility incorporated into it, administrative offices, emergency management center and also public space to be used for training, shelter and public meetings. Also too, the building incorporated green technology such as solar panels to produce power for the station. Also having public space in a firehouse not only creates good PR but also opens up the door to more grants. This is a building the department wanted and they designed it to last a minimum of 75 to 100 years.
  6. I couldn't agree more with you Willie. It's one thing going out to buff a department, hand out with them, go to a call and the guys on the rig ask you to take a hydrant while riding with them (if they were to do that). But this idea of paying to be a firefighter for a day there is another reason to remove the top commanders and political appointees who really know nothing of the fire service from their positions. I hope this was only a tongue in cheek response memo to something else. But watching 'Good Ol' Charlie's" news piece convinced me it was not. AND I hope that no true firefighter; career, volunteer, private industrial, military or retired brother would ever consider doing such a thing.
  7. What I like about the Australian fire engines is that they take the North American and European designs and combined them to fit their needs.
  8. Actually, that is a pretty clever sprinkler design if you think about it.
  9. Same here Barry, a lot of issues. We have problems already with people trying to jam up frequencies with just a two-way. It would be interesting to see if the FCC really goes for this.
  10. Happy birthday man! (*)
  11. Should I go and build a boat mast so the good capt can do his Lt. Dan impression during the storm?? (*)
  12. Says it right there. Unfortunately people got in the line of fire and were hit accidentally. This only made news because it was near the E.S.B. If it was any where else in NY or another city, it probably would only get a 5 second news report. Speedy recovery to those who were hit by the crossfire.
  13. Surprised no one posted anything about this one here. The photos are just simply amazing. Talk about being at the right place at the right time!!! 14. Andy, that accident was 2 years ago?? Seems like it was only a few month back. Thanks for the correct info.
  15. Truck 3 was also involved in a major MVA a few months back where they were t-boned. I know the truck was repaired so with thy I can see why they are planning a new tower for them. (*)
  16. Who cares!!!! If a department wants to run its own aerial truck, rescue or what ever they have the right too. Remember one thing, it all ends when Mr. & Mrs. Taxpayer start asking "Why is our (insert the vehicle) keeps going to the other town instead of protecting our own?" why do we have to rely on mutual aid on every call?? 17. Rest in Peace Lenny, you will be missed but not forgotten. Lenny's last login was July 18, at 7:10pm and made a post in the Questioning for infectious diseases as part of medical history thread.
  18. In an around the Sub Base in Groton, CT some residents are having problems with thier garage door openers not working. This is mainly because of the new military trunked radio systems being installed at the base. Unfortunately it seems that the garage door openers were using frequencies allocated to the military!
  19. Just a question with the different color coats, is that the company officer or the ladder company members wearing the tan coats? I figured its for ID purposes.
  20. I agree, their whole catalog is amazing even up to the more recent albums. Ian Paice is the only constant member since the beginning and Roger Glover and Ian Gillan left but returned over the years and have remained with the band. It would have been nice to see John Lord back with the band one more time after her retired in 2002.
  21. Man could he play that Hamond organ! Truly a legend that will be missed! "Feel it coming It's knocking at the door You know it's no good running It's not against the law The point of no return And now you know the score And now you're learning What's knockin' at your back door " (*)
  22. Last night the New London City council failed to vote on the tentative agreement that was negotiated in good faith by both Local 1522 and the city. Again the measure was tabled by the council for a later date. With this, the mayor announced last night at city hall all 25 firefighters, 1/3 of the department, would be laid off effective at 5:30pm today. This includes their newest hire all the way to a member who has 14 years on the job. Many firefighters were there in support of the brothers with representation from many of the CT IAFF locals. Once again public safety is a pawn to politics. http://www.wtnh.com/...-laid-off-today http://www.newlondon...htersunion.org/ FDNL runs 3 engines, 2 trucks, 2 BLS ambulances and a BC over four shifts with a current manning of 16 per shift.
  23. Unless you are near one of the bases like the Sub base in Groton, CT, or any of the USGC stations, but you are correct. With New England's maritime history, we should see more of them.
  24. When I applied they were on a 25 day rotation - 2 Days / 2 Nights / 4 Off / 2 Days / 2 Nights / 4 off / 2 Days /2 Nights / 5 off if I remember correctly (work days were 7a to 7p for days and 7p to 7a for night). Not sure if they changed the schedule with all the changes that happened.
