  7. Check out this video of members from FDNY E-81 and L-46 operating in Manhattan back in August. A 24-year-old jet skier was sucked under the dock while he was trying to fix his watercraft. Members from L-46 happened upon the scene while on a different run for a boat in distress. Two L-46 members called for tools which were approximately 100 yards away on the truck. One of the members considers swimming under the dock but is ordered to wait for the tools as it was considered too dangerous to enter the water due to the strong currents. The tools arrive along with one member of Rescue Company 3, the other rescue members began to get their scuba gear on. L-46 members with the assistance of the rescue firefighter cut and ripped the dock apart and extricated the 24 year old who has been under the water and not breathing for approximately 6 minutes at this point. One member from L-46 immediately starts chest compressions while E-81 members start managing the patients airway with BVM and oxygen. After 15 chest compressions the victim comes back to life with water splurging out of his mouth. 8. I was contacted back in August by a Movie Prop company about my Yellow Mack. At first I really thought it was a prank. The rep came up to look at the rig and he loved it. He took photos and called me a couple days later saying they wanted to use the rig. To my surprise I was also told that I was cast in the movie as an extra and I would be driving the truck. COOL! One to cross off the Bucket List! Drive a Fire Truck in a movie. lol I really can't get into the actual scene due to legal reasons but Engine 626 has some camera time and maybe myself included. Depends on how close up the shot is. THANKS GUYS!
  9. Robert McMahon, Former Commissioner Putnam County Emergency Services REST IN PEACE! Some information about Robert McMahon McMahon served as part-time deputy fire coordinator (July 1990 through January 1997), then as part-time fire coordinator (January 1997 through December 1999) and finally as commissioner of emergency services (January 2000 through August 2012). McMahon served in the Navy and retired from the Fire Department of New York. He is a registered nurse, a former chief and life member of the Lake Carmel Fire Department, a NYS and FEMA certified training instructor and a member of the board of Putnam Hospital Center. Under his leadership, the emergency services in Putnam were greatly enhanced and eventually evolved into the Bureau of Emergency Services whose efforts have proven so effective during recent major storms in our area. Through programs McMahon initiated which focused on the advanced training and education of EMS personnel, recruitment and volunteer retention soared. Today, the Center is staffed by highly trained, dedicated and professional deputy emergency services coordinators who act as liaisons to local fire and law enforcement departments as well as to emergency management teams and various county agencies. It was during McMahon’s tenure as commissioner of emergency services that the Putnam County Fire Training Center was expanded to include a three-story multi-purpose burn building training simulator. The Training and Operations Center was constructed allowing Putnam’s 911 Communications Center and the All Hazards Emergency Operations Center to be housed in a single state-of-the-art location. Working with the county executive’s office as well as the legislature, the office for aging, the sheriff’s department and the health department, McMahon saw to the opening of warming centers in the winter and cooling centers in the summer for the elderly, the ill or those without electricity due to severe weather. Plans for county-wide shelters offering overnight facilities were also developed and generators were installed in many public buildings with federal grant money sought under McMahon’s direction Information Credit: http://www.theexaminernews.com/emergency-911-communications-center-renamed-to-honor-former-commissioner/ Video of the 911 Center Dedication: http://www.lohud.com/VideoNetwork/2189123305001/Putnam-911-Center-dedicated-to-Robert-McMahon More information will be posted as it becomes available.

  12. Medals Stolen From Family Of Fallen Worcester Firefighter WORCESTER (CBS) – The family of a fallen Worcester firefighter is outraged. Timothy Jackson died in the massive Cold Storage Warehouse fire in 1999. His family received commendations for his bravery, but a thief broke into their home and stole the medals the family cherished. The past couple of days of been a struggle for Tim Jackson Jr. “It’s personal I don’t really know how to describe it,” Jackson told WBZ-TV. It’s been almost 14 years since his dad and five other firefighters died in the now infamous blaze. When burglars hit Tim’s Swan Avenue home on Wednesday, the family felt the loss all over again. “It’s just the gut feeling in the pit of your stomach of emptiness now,” said Christina Jackson, the firefighter’s granddaughter. 13. White Plains Officer Accused Of Using Slur In 2011 Standoff Is Fired WHITE PLAINS — Steven Hart, the White Plains police officer accused of using a racial slur during the 2011 standoff that ended with the death of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr., has been fired, police confirmed Monday. “It’s a small, but significant step in getting justice for the murder of my father,” Kenneth Chamberlain Jr. told The Journal News after being informed that Public Safety Commissioner David Chong had terminated Hart. “(Hart) had a departmental hearing and after reviewing the findings, I thought that the best thing moving forward, for the department and the community, was that he be separated from service,” Chong told the newspaper. He would not say specifically why Hart was fired. “All I can say is that it was a personnel matter, and we don’t discuss personnel matters,” Chong said. Hart was notified of the dismissal on Sept. 19. 17. I rode for CCVAC when I was in High School. I remember we had a trailer (old mobile home) for equipment, meetings at the library and both van ambulances were parked outside. CCVAC for many years didn't have a a place to call home. Hank is a BIG part of why CCVAC now has a headquarters. I remember him spending hours, days, weeks and months working on the building. All for his community and the members of CCVAC. As mentioned he built it with his bare hands. Many times he stopped what he was doing to jump in the ambulance and respond to a call. Once the call was over right back to work. He did this for no money. He was a Volunteer. I am happy I had a chance to see him a few months ago at the Paradise in Verplanck. GOD BLESS YOU HANK.... YOU WILL BE MISSED!
