  1. Sorry but I just had to jump on this one... Sounds like some real radio problems in Croton. Did you ever consider a new radio repair company? That's not a problem it's just an excuse for a radio technician who does not know how to set up your radio equipment. If your radio repair does not have a solution then they might be your problem! Call your radio guy and have him fix it. If he can't then call someone who can. I would hate to see your frequencies jump to Putnam at 3AM nobody knows and you have a Working Fire. Good Luck!
  2. New York State Vehicle & Traffic Law - Section 397 "A person, not a Police Officer or Peace Officer, acting pursuant to his special duties, who equips a motor vehicle with a radio receiving set capable of receiving signals on frequencies allocated for police use or knowingly uses a motor vehicle so equipped" It goes on but you get the idea... It's pretty clear and covers ANY scanner or two-way radio. Keep in mind the key word here is "capable," Any scanner or two-way radio is "capable." As mentioned by others I think using some common sense here would be best. If you get stopped and you have a scanner you should TURN IT OFF! When a State Trooper has you stopped and he hears the echo of his own radio coming from inside your car what do you think he is going to do? Hmmm. Police Officers know we have them. (Not that I do! ) haha They turn there heads on a lot of things that being one of them. The scanner can be a very useful tool in Fire and EMS. Just use your head. This topic can be debated forever as to who and why someone should have one or need one. I think the Police would look for the person who just robbed a Bank and has a police scanner, not the person who is a Firefighter or EMT. Keep in mind some Police Officers do "Look." Don't get mad, They are doing there job! Section 397 says so. HINT... Out of sight, Out of mind! Happy Scanning!

  15. WAS... It was Peekskill Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps now known as Peekskill EMS. They ran 4 Ambulances. 7501, 7502, 7503, and 7504 7504 was a Braun which was sold to Croton FD "55B2" It's now owned by the Forman for the Croton Water Dept. I think it was a 1984 but I am not 100% sure. Peekskill EMS now runs 3 Ambulances 75B1, 75B2, and 75B3 Just to add some more before the Braun days 7504 was a Ford. I wanna say maybe a late 60's early 70's? It was primarily used as a Supply Unit, MCI's, Fire Standby's, Etc. It was set up with extra supplies and could transport if needed. In the early 80's when the Braun was purchased the Ford was sold to Peekskill PD. It was used as an ESU Truck. In the mid 90's the Ford was retired by PPD and sold to a local repairman. I have not seen it around in a long time. ALRIGHTY THEN!!!! How did I do?
  16. Over the past few weeks I have been monitoring some local fire departments who have had working structure fires and have called out for a FASTeam. I have noticed at times a delay in making the request, delays in assembling crews and manpower issues which ultimately effects the response time of the FASTeam to the fire scene. The purpose of a FASTeam is for us the firefighters. Well, if that is the case why don't we have the FASTeam automatically dispatched on calls for reported structure fires? This will save us time, could save us a life, maybe even your life. You can always cancel them if not needed but you can't get them to the scene any faster if a brother FF goes down or is missing. Something to think about... SOP's should be set up between fire departments and 60 control for automatic dispatch of a FASTeam to reported structure fires. Just a thought, What do you think?? RWC HAPPY NEW YEAR!
  17. Congratulations to Seth G "EMTBravo" on becoming a NREMT-PARAMEDIC... Good job!! God help us all... haha
  18. Hey ALS! Ease up on DFFD just a little. He is a good kid! Very much into the Fire Department at a young age as we once were. At least he does not have blue lights on his bicycle as I did. haha We value ALL opinions and comments here as long as they are not directed at a personal level "bashing". DFFD you will make a great Firefighter!

  20. Ahhhhhh CODE RED! Let's not forget EMERGENCY! I was told that NBC is focusing the show on the NYPD end of it as a trial because most the cool fire shows on TV have failed. The ratings are not good. Sucks! Shows are not appreciated by the general public as much as by us, the Firefighters! That is what I was told by an NBC producer who has close ties to Third Watch. Look at the cool show "The Bravest" Gone! The EMS and FIRE part of Third Watch will be back real soon, they are just testing out some episodes and ratings. Real soon..... shhhhh!
  21. BFD you mean TL8 right? It's a TOWER LADDER!! haha
  22. April 7th is my birthday, do i get free ham? haha Sounds fun!!
  23. Scarsdale FD open FF position was filled by a Peekskill FF transfer as of late Feb. I dunno if they have anymore open.
  24. E-mail me.. I'd be happy to give you more details. It's in Windham, NY. Exit 21 off NYS Tway. I would say it's about an Hour 1/2 (55 MPH of course) I just go for R & R. The place is awesome! Great food in the area. If you go up in the winter you have Ski Windham right down the road. It's nice any time of the year. Summer is quiet. The rates drop as of April 15. Maybe we could get a EMTBravo group and rent the whole place some weekend. If you go up let me know and mention Rob from Peekskill FD. They will take great care of you. PS You MUST eat at Windhaven Bar & Grill.
  25. The topic here is "Riding Assignments" not Tower Ladder, Ladder Tower, Quint, Quad... Whatever. You all make great points on the topic but let's stick with the question I asked.... It's very interesting to see what various departments in Westchester do. The posts made regarding the TL vs. LT issue have been split into a new thread in the apparatus forum: http://emtbravo.just5buckshosting.com/phpB...topic.php?t=748 Thanks Guys
