  1. and it Quote the article that states: "Chris Fontaine, who lost her son, Mark, in the fire and whose daughter, Melanie, was injured, said she was not surprised to learn about the latest deal because lawyers had told her to expect additional settlements. But she said the news brought her little comfort. "This has never been about the money," Fontaine said. "No amount of money is ever going to bring back my son or remove the scars from my daughter." be safe out there
  2. what about vol. Chiefs car's outside NYC Firehouses? I know it's a department by department rules and regulations.
  3. I went to College for Fire Science. Started off at SUNY Rockland CC and got my A.A.S. in Fire Protection Technology. After that I transftered to the University of New Haven and got my BS in Fire/Arson Investigation with a minor in Criminal Justice. I tihnk there are a lot more options if you go for Fire Protection Engineering. I was going to take that but I suck in Math. Good luck.. Chris

  7. As i am reading these posts all i can say like it was stated many time. Slow down, Ignorance of the law is no excuse. As for blue lights/green lights I feel that they are more of a distraction. I had a blue light untill it got stolen. After that time I don't even want to get another one. How many times have you had to sit at a red light with all of your lights going until it turns green? Remember this the job will be there when you get to the firehouse.
  8. you also have at least now Breaking New Network or other pay subscriptions pagers services.
  9. As a union member (not IAFF, NYC local 375) I don't see a problem with having a side job. As long as your side job doesn't take over your main job. For example you can't work this tour because of your side job. Your Main job is what counts, where you have your benifits and so on. Just my 2 cents.
  10. The Salty dog Bar in Bay Ridge Brooklyn on 3rd ave and bay ridge parkway is set up as a fire house as well. They got an old fire truck that is gutted out. The food is also very good too
  11. I graduated from UNH with my BS in Fire/arson Investigation in 2002 They have a very good program. At this time I am debating to try and get my masters degree. Would anyone know If there are any online masters degree programs. I was looking into John Jay I also saw a Homeland security masters degree in Manhattan but it was pretty expensive per credit. Thanks again Chris

  17. all i can say is WOW It was a great episode. Anyone have an update on the new baby boy? How is the family doing today after the taping of the show?
  18. Also don't forget if there are PRV (pressure reducing Valves) on the hose outlet to take them off. Your Control man can always gate down the pressue by closing the hose outlet a little. NYC over 85 psi for 2 1/2" line and 55 PSI for 1 1/2" are requred for standpipe systems if there are occupant hoses on the outlets. Chris
  19. very nice lol

  22. was glad to have known andy for about a year while i was in the RCC fire science program back in 96-99. Top knotch guy and had loads of infromation. Andy "smooth bore" RIP Brother
  23. here is my two cents. Really it doesn't matter if you are a paid or volunteer you all do the same job from start to finish. I also got my B.S. In Arson Investigation with criminal justice from the university of new haven. Its a hard field to find work. At this piont in time i am doing totally somthing different from my degree. Eventually I would like to work in the investigation field but i need to bring up my "experence". Do your job and do it well. In the end it comes down to finding how the fire started. Not if you are going to colect a pay check this week. be safe out there chris
  24. Hope everybody had a good easter today with there family be safe out there.... Chris
