  1. Safest solution: Don't ride in an ambulance!
  2. The LPRs on the Animal Control Van... it may be a vehicle that doubles as parking enforcement (like many other places do) and if it gets any "hits," they can radio it in and have a patrol car check it out. That would be my guess.
  3. We've seen the SCBA straps, cylinders and mostly the masks suffer damage from flashover training. We had to replace several masks from it. My suggestion (and by no means am I an SCBA expert) would be to have your vendor assess the cylinders that appear discolored as a precaution. The straps and other components may need to be checked as well, unless you feel they can make it to their next routine annual/biennial test.
  4. A lot of times an apparatus will be blessed by a Priest or Chaplain, and the tradition of other apparatus providing the "wet down" are basically "baptizing" it as a way to "keep the brothers riding it safe." So I have been told...
  5. Sadly, no. Sometimes the good intentions of many are ruined by the carelessness of one or some. Let's be honest, how many times have all of us been at a function where one guy or group of people ruins the fun? And, let's not beat around the bush, it's often attributed to overdoing it with alcohol - which thankfully most of us have learned to keep away from (or at least minimize) at things like these. I see no harm in having a wetdown, provided it is done safely and tastefully. The Captain raises a good point about the electrical issue, and hopefully it raises others' awareness in the future at such events. Congrats to Piermont on their two new apparatus. And thanks to Mess for sharing the video!
  6. Toying around with police services to save a couple of bucks is a risky gamble. It doesn't matter which PD is patrolling the Town of Ossining (or anywhere, for that matter), when something happens there is going to be those criticizing the agency and crying for it to change. ...And saving money on one thing only translates into pissing it away somewhere else... Good luck to OPD, and thanks to the WCPD for their services the past few years.
  7. In a disaster, how many businesses will even be open?
  8. They did a nice job with these cars. The first car with their new lettering scheme was the Expedition (Car 37). Now these two, Car 37 and the Park Ranger Car (134) have the new graphics. If you were in the same spot on Thursday, you could have seen them locking someone up for suspected DWI/DUI/DWAI.... (not me, LOL).
  9. You did. And this price seems to be the norm now for Rescue-Pumpers. Just imagine if it was on a Seagrave or Pierce chassis, I would wager to bet it would be closer to $800,000. Good luck AFD.
  10. EMS and FD are using the same for dispatch.
  11. Go to www.radioreference.com and look them up, I am 99% sure they're there.
  12. LOL at Res24cue. You keep proving me wrong that people can't be any dumber. Law Enforcement Officers are the only thing that keeps order and prevents chaos in our country, regardless of what politicians, media and other groups try to feed us. The most important thing for all of us to do is to avoid sipping the Kool Aid that is fed to us making us think that LEOs are the enemy. The enemy is ourselves and our thought process that we can be and are above the law. If we eliminate the laws that govern us and protect us, I will gladly pick up my family and move somewhere that has them, enforces them and protects my family. I hate how our country is going down the toilet, and how so many people try to justify their illegal actions.
  13. Sleepy Hollow and Ardsley get dispatched on their own frequencies. Irvington is dispatched on 33.96. SHFD used Fire 12 for comms with 60 Control. AFD & IFD use Fire 14.
  14. Consistency... the only consistency I see around Westchester is an increasing demand for service, reduced funding for said service and a lack of support for those providing said services. This doesn't just apply to dispatch, this goes for everyone in the field as well. We should all be wearing toilet paper suits with the amount of sh!t thrown at us...
  15. Rob, I don't think he kicked him in the head. I watched it a few times and it appears they kicked the mutt's hat away.
  16. The code means the number of Interior Firefighters on each apparatus, not including the driver. Between this and the use of I Am Responding, an Incident Commander can call for additional resources right away if they feel it is warranted, or can return units knowing one apparatus is packed. (IE for a commercial alarm, the IC can keep one rig coming in to investigate and return others knowing that one rig is well staffed). Does that make sense?
  17. I look at it this way... Law Enforcement's jobs continue to get more and more difficult because A) society has decreasing respect for them, politicians and government leaders at all levels keep putting them in the spotlight as the enemy, C) the media like to make them look bad and D) people continue to get crazier and want to inflict harm to the innocent. If Law Enforcement is going to be the first responders to these awful occurrences, and - hopefully - interject to prevent horrific incidents from happening - I say give them anything they need! That small town cops don't need all of that stuff no longer means a thing to me after seeing all of the horrible things that happen in this country. I, for one, fully endorse cops to have the best equipment and training possible to protect us and those we care about.
  18. The "Code" only applies to Interior personnel, and not the Driver. It used to include the Driver if they are an Interior FF but some felt it shouldn't count. I won't offer my personal feeling on the matter here...
  19. I agree, his posts are intelligent. But the never-ending "Debbie Downer" stuff based upon his experience in his department is getting tired. Not every department is a group of morons as portrayed in many of his (and others') posts.
  20. The "Are you f***ing kidding me" over 46.26 was inappropriate. Funny, but inappropriate.
  21. 1. There is NOTHING wrong with any publicity that puts your department in a positive light. It can help gain members, gain support from the community and - for those that depend on it - possibly garner donations. 2. 60 Control is the Communications Division of the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services. We (60 Control) are not the instructors providing the training mentioned. 3. From what I have seen over time as a Training Officer / Chief Officer with the WCFTC is that you occasionally have a bad apple in the bunch, and once people bring this to light, they are cut loose. I feel that the current staff of instructors is professional and courteous based on my most recent drills / classes I have taken as a member of my FD. 4. Pubic... HAHAHA. 5. Am I the only one that often wishes "Res24cue" would just go away with his crying and whining?
  22. To the best of my memory...
  23. I miss the old days of GOOD conversation, discussion and the occasional spirited debate. We all may never have agreed on everything, but it was always good to see each side's perspective. A lot of what I learned on here has helped me over the years as a fireman and as a Chief Officer. It's too bad coming here for knowledgeable discussions has been replaced by generally useless posts about fire trucks, fire shows and pointless one-upping/finger-pointing. I admit I used to post more often, but between being banned for a while, accused of stuff I didn't do, speaking my mind and hurting peoples' feelings and yes, being told I shouldn't post on here by my job, I have stepped back. It would be nice to see things get back to the old here...
  24. I still work here and know nothing about any bet. Get your facts straight and don't post things in a public forum that are not correct and could strain relationships between people and/or get people in trouble.
