I don't get it........... In my eyes, if your not doing anything wrong ,than why worry about being stopped!!!!!
It's for your safety and the safety of other boaters ..... Now ,,,,,,these are probably the same people who will stage a protest when someone godforbid is boating while intoxicated and kills,or injures someone they know and will state that there's not enough enforcement and it could have been prevented..............
***INSTEAD OF A PROTEST.......NEXT TIME YOUR "BOTHERED" AND YOUR BOATING TRIP IS "INTERUPTED".... WHY DON'T YOU THANK THESE MEN AND WOMEN FOR KEEPING YOU,YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS SAFE..........****
@remember585----- hahahahahahahahahahah

The only people this law is likely to make a difference for are those who would likely seek to abuse the supposed protections it grants. It provides a cause for entitlement and defiance. If I'm working a job all night and can't make it to work I can always call in sick. Maybe it's a luxury in my profession, but I'd be surprised if most people didn't have sick time. And if I couldn't, I'd have to make it through the day somehow.
I think this law will only come up when someone is using it to essentially tell their employer to suck it, that they're going to do what they want whether it works for the company or not.
If attendance and promptness are so important that I needed to use this law to justify being late or absent then volunteering and my career choices are not really compatible and maybe some aspect of my choices needs to change. The employer shouldn't have to make any concessions for an employee because of the employee's choices, however I've found that when you're an asset to whoever you work for they are always, without exception, willing to work with you to accommodate your needs in some way.
Very well said!!!!!

FirefighterNation.com & FireRescue Magazine NIOSH investigation report released on Boston ladder truck crash that killed a lieutenant and injured three firefighters.

I just want to make something clear. I did not post this to have it turn into the usual debate that seems to be the outcome of many posts on here..
My def. Of professionally staffed is-
To perform your duties to the highest of standards, and to always act accordingly, and to be looked up to... In a "professional" manor..
And if this is the way the dept. Runs whether it be paid or vol. Hats off to you.
As a Vol. FF (who always acts in a professional manor) haha. I thought that was very nice to see on a truck. -- just MY opinion..

Professionalism has far more to do with attitude than it does with paychecks.
I couldn't agree with you more...

Saw Pearl Rivers Hook and Ladder TL-12 today. On the side of the truck it displays a pretty cool saying----
"Professionally staffed by volunteers".... I dont know anything about that fire department but i hope they live up to that slogan..

I don't post much on this sight, but I do visit it and read all the time. But when I came across this article I had to share it on here to see what others think of this. I totally agree with TR54--- I feel this is not good for the fire service at all. There has to be smarter ways to go about this.
Maybe fines on the spot for having no, or non working smoke/fire alarms... Blocked entrance/exits over crowding etc... But to bill people for. Working at structure fires is crazy...
What if the tables were turned and now the home owner sends a bill to the FD for opening up a wall at an electrical fire, water damage to carpets/ floor.......dirty carpets!! It could snowball into really bad things for everyone!
Just my opinion

It came in the mail less than a month after Darline Fairchild watched her family's home go up in flames -- a bill for the nearly $28,000 it cost the fire department to extinguish the blaze.

Westchester is switching to utilizing the CPAT format for the physical agility. So all of you on the list get the info on it and train for it. You never know what may happen with those taking this test. It is much more rigorous than the previous agility format the county used and I'm willing to bet quite a few are not going to be ready or in shape for it.Before anyone chimes in asking what the CPAT involves...again for once find out for yourself. Google, yahoo, etc are wonderful search engines and you'll have a sense of accomplishment for doing it yourself. Can't find it there, call OFPC.
For those of you who keep asking how many took the test...stop being lazy and call Westchester Civil Service and ask.
If you got a 100, whether you are ranked #1 or #101, if you got a 100 you generally will be interviewed by those who use the county list. Some of you keep asking how far down will they get in a 4 year period...again another question that can't be answered it depends. There are only a few departments that utilize the county list versus residency. They may not ever hire all the 100's by the time the list expires. Then again all but 1 could fail the agility and they will get down to the 95 and 90's. The key here is stay positive, stay in shape for your turn at the agility.
Best of luck to all of you who passed.
Not sure why asking if anyone knows how many people took the test is being LAZY... people ask all sorts of questions on here. Isnt that what this site is for?If you look at it from your point of view this whole topic should have been stopped after the first question the answer would have been CALL THE WC CIVIL SERVICE AND ASK.... So if anyone besides alsfirefighter knows or has an idea please feel free to SHARE THAT INFO. Thanks..

Someone wrote they aren't dispatched ,they use scanners ... I'm not a lawyer but pretty sure that won't go over to well in court !!!!!
