  1. Ossining uses U51 in addition to an engine company, usually E98. Valhalla uses Rescue 9 and Peekskill uses E134, which is their rescue truck. Rescues are also good as they usually have more space to carry all of the necessary FAS equipment.

In Larchmont, we are about to "launch" our FAS team using our Rescue1. We did this for storage reasons and also to offer departments in the area the benefit of calling our rescue for both a FAS team and a cascade unit (if there is enough manpower.)

  2. Better underline money. We retook possesion of one of our engines from the 20's about 2 years ago. Putting it back in shape has taken a great deal of money and manpower. As of today, it's still not capable of running on it's own. While we feel it will be a great PR tool in the future, it has been a slow laborous journey thus far. Be sure that your membership has the time and knowledge to embark on an ambitious renovation project first.

  3. New or nothing. We have already rebuilt it once in 1985 and it's just had it. It would be worth rebuilding as an antique only. It does still pump (I think) and would be great for musters. Once we have deceided on a date to accept bids for it, I'll post it. Be sure to bring a flatbed for it

  4. Yes Engine 35, 1 1969 Mack repowered in 1985 is officially dead and has been for several months. It is no longer repairable as the parts now have to be custom made due to the age of the truck. A replacement rig is on the drawing board, but the village has not been receptive to the idea of a new engine.

  5. Word is that Harrison is about to order 2 new engines to replace the current apparatus at E11 and E13. Damn shame, Engine 11 is a fine rig (1988 Mack/Ward 79)

At the moment, no details on the new apparatus, but I would bet on 2 seagraves similar to Engine 12's 1999 model.

  6. Here in Larchmont, we have a 95ft. Tower which is just too darn big and clumsy forsome of our streets. It's also very tough to get up due to the trees and wires that are everywhere here. The Town of Mamaroneck is our 2nd due truck with Ladder 19 (a 1998 Seagrave 100ft rearmount stick) They get that thing into the tightest places imaginable.

Towers have their place, but there shouldn't be one in every town like what is starting to happen to westchester. In the past 3 years alone, Chappaqua, Valhalla, Croton, Peekskill and purchase have switched from sticks to towers.
