  1. You can try Con-Tees in Mount Vernon. I believe they are on Dock St. He's done alot of work for F.D.'s in the area. Easy guys to get along with. Mike & Joe Conti.
  2. What can be done? Work from a ladder or platform and push the A/C inside the window and inside the structure. If you worry a firefighter may be under it, bang on it a couple of times, yell in the window, whatever you can to warn them, and slowly push it in.
  3. Always take your chances with a trial by judge. ANYWHERE in NYC. Hopefully they can't get their lives back together now.
  4. Don't think it would be a problem.
  5. Although your tours of duty on earth have ended, continue to watch over us from Heaven. Your service to your country and Norwalk will not be forgotten. May your soul rest in peace.
  6. Seems to work good, but I think the axe may be too sharp. Sounds wierd but true. Plus, it seems like in alot of the video, he hits with the blunt side where he just cut with the sharp end. No reason for axe to have an edge that you can slice roast beef with, our procedures actually call for it to not be sharp at all.
  7. Lesson #1: Never give up your hook...
  8. Growing up in the area, and having family living there for about 100 years, I don't recall of ever hearing a "house for rent" on a weekly/monthly basis. This is not like the Jersey shore, etc. This is a residential area, and no one rents houses like that. At least, as far as I know, and I'd be shocked to hear different. They only place is the B&B and it's pretty expensive. Try the Radisson in New Rochelle, or the Residence Inn in New Roc City, they are like 3 blocks from each other. Good luck.
  9. Beginning to middle of October, this year On Bruckner Blvd service road, between Rosedale and Beach Avenues. Bunch of 6 story projects in there. Channel 7 happened to be driving by and shot alot of footage before any companies arrived on the scene and started their 6pm broadcast with the video. This video looks like a civilians work. 96 was on another run, but became available and got in there....
  10. The funny thing about this is, is that it's written right in th FDNY Books, I know that because I got it wrong on the last promotion test! It says: When you have a primary/secondary power line down, the falling power line may cause a ruptured gas main. When pulling up to the scene, no one is really thinking this may have happened, judging by the weight of the line, etc.? Most of us would think that a collapse or some large impact would be needed to cause a gas main to break, but obviously this has happened a few times. Stay alert. Be Safe.
  11. I would hope you could go down to D.C.A.S. and explain it to them, then I would've got the 70% and not the 69% that I got on test!!! Eventually, I'd be a Captain, D*mn It!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!! Because of that question, I may be a Lieutenant for life...........not the worst thing...Ok guys......Merry Christmas to all...... I am not politically correct, it's 12/24, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Let's keep up the good work, and keep looking out for ourselves. Who else will?!?!?!?
  12. If they had used GAS, this wouldn't have been quite as bad........They told us at the Rock that this department decided to use AVIATION FUEL to "start" this fire, AND let it soak, I think overnight. You could see when the video was slowed down that the "pool" of fumes, outside the building, ignited before anything in the house, thereby causing the explosion. L-U-C-K-Y. If there was ANY humorous part, it's the tones going off after the explosion, for all the other companies to respond to the scene.....it goes for like 2 minutes!!!
  13. "We call it Tiny Town"......................?????????????????????????????? Let me say something, JBE, don't know who you are, or what your motive is, but......no one calls Edgewater, "Tiny Town". Don't know where you get the idea to call it that,or what it is you're trying to define, but "Tiny Town" has never been used as a way to define Edgewater. I've grown up in the neighborhood around there and live there now, and I've NO IDEA, what you're talking about. Don't live in Edgewater but you've gotta come up with a better rationale............... Surprised at you JBE, usually love your posts......................................but here, you're out of line
  14. Although I mainly agree with you Izzy, I gotta say, that is a piss-poor argument. You say, you're gonna do #2, and "**** a brick". Come on now, IT'S A BUILDING! A GARAGE! Loss of life in the structure is on the very low, to nil side. Sure, maybe they have spent many good times in there, and it's sad, but why not get pumped and start going to work trying to save the place?!?! No Gear? Set up those 4 Engines and start pumping 1000s of gallons of water thru those deckpipes into the building. 2 1/2" lines from the exterior. No gear needed. Pre-connects and interior FF'ing are out. What do you do when you pull up and people are jumping out of a fully occupied building and holding their kids out the window? Start stretching without equipment, fumble with your mask, don't give any orders? It's your job/duty to get your emotions in check, and get to work. That's what makes good firemen and just fireman/spectators. (By no means am I implying your not a good fireman either, please don't take it that way.) That is what these guys should've done. Look how long there are 4 Engines on the scene and not one has a handline, a LARGE CALIBER handline on this fire. At one point, you can hear someone say something about, "Deckpipe". How about it? I mean, just do something. That fire DOES NOT take off until after the arrival of those companies on the scene. You can see it in the video. Get those emotions in check, and get to work. That's my 2-cents. Sorry if offending anyone, in advance.
  15. They must go by the old adage..........When in doubt...Do Nothing!!!
  16. When I asked about putting a Federal Q siren on the rig, I was told by one of our FDNY Radio Mechanics, (who repair our radios, MDTs and sirens) that the definitive answer to this question was that the decibel level of the Q was "too loud" for city noise provisions and that was the reason for them not being allowed and if found, being removed from rigs. I laughed and said "Too loud? It's supposed to be loud." It reminded of the Seinfeld when Kramer got burnt with the coffee and sued.... Kramer:"The coffee was too hot." Jerry:"Too hot?!?!? Coffee's supposed to be hot!!!" Kramer:"Not that hot...."
  17. I can't find my old Scanner Master book that lists all of the apparatus for the entire county, and tells you what unit # is assigned to what town, for each type of appartus. (i.e. 2302 = New Rochelle F.D. Chiefs car.) Is there any website online that lists this info, or does anyone have a spreadsheet they can upload to the site? Thanks.....
  18. FDNY will not go with a GAS vehicle. No way. They will order some other vehicle, but rest assured not gas. There are no GAS pumps in any firehouse, only Diesel, and the logistics of going to a gas station to fuel up Batt. or Div. vehicles is so unpractical it won't ever happen. And in true NYC fashion, they will go with the lowest bidder.
  19. E-38 & TL-51 are not allowed to be called, BRACE YOURSELVES..............................."THE DAWG HOUSE"?!?!?!??!?! Sorry if anyone was offended.................Apparently it is an offensive title.
  20. Doesn't look like it's in the structure to me. I got no problem with being on this roof. Looks like fire is on the combustible exterior of the house. Cut a hole. If fire shows thru the hole, and it's pushing good, like the structure is involved then get off and work from a TL basket, or aerial, if no TL available.
  21. I know it's a mostly West. Cty. issue for you guys but....... Even in NYC the "FDNY" cannot even communicate with the "FDNY*EMS"!!! How ridiculous is that!!! Supposedly, we are the same department..... Helloooooooooooooo........9/11 communications issues!?!?!?! Oh wait, I thought Mr. Magoo & Bloomy boy solved those issues......
  22. Probably a 65-2......."Meaning standby for a Dept. message..." Given today was probably the message, "operators of dept. vehicles should use caution, responding to, operating at, and returning from all alarms." blah blah blah etc They give that message when it snows....
