  1. [Great Job venting the roof, makes it a lot easier for the guys inside advancing a line. The roof would remain stable ,the fire showing at the edge is probably because of old baloon construction ,not the total roof on fire
  2. I guess this gives any of us who are FD,PD or EMS who have been around a D.O.A. be it from trauma or natural causes has the oppotunity to find a s--- sucking lawyer to file a lawsuit that we were traumatized.Would that ever choke the court system!!!
  3. some ancient history, when tower ladders were first delivered to the area they were numbered sequentially upon arrival date.As an example Port Chester took delivery of the 2nd TL in the county and was designated TL2 even though PC had L30 and L31. Hope this helps
  4. Halligan rules for forcibile entry, agree a saw probably woul have been useful to cut either the hinges or around the lock mechanism
  5. I agree that the terms of appointment were changed after he was hired, there are many people who have an aversion to needles, but to discriminate against it is ludicrous. I personally used to faint when getting a shot, overcame it during medic training. I hope this guy wins his case
  6. I find it hard to believe that the crew doesnt check the O2 and the AED pre flight as any one involved with the public would, especially considering the flight time.It might help to know the passengers med hx

  9. To this day I still havent figured out how the doors were locked at 1830 and the initial call came in at approx 1835 with my initial size up of white smoke from what appeared to be a chimney, Forced entry to cellar and found a large body of fire coming thru the floor, initially K/D but appeared to back draft forcing a retreat and a very long nite.

  17. ou know whta they say about Calif. ,its like a bowl of cereal, you take out the fruit and the nuts and you are still left with the flakes
  18. I agree with the last post about MD's admitting Pts thru the ED,It clutters up an ED with multiple work ups , when if you are going to direct admit a pt send them in with orders rather than have an E.D md have to do the work up.This procedure also ties up triage when pts come in stating "my doctor sent me in to be admitted and you have to go thru the entire history, meds etc before they are seen
  19. As a retired firefighter/paramedic and present day RN who has spent 20 plus years in Emergency Dept's, yes is great to blame triage nurses and the system, but this is what we have to work with,a three level triage system of Emergent/Acute/Non Emergent. When you throw into this mix pt's who come to the ED because they can't see thier MD right away or "cant wait for a couple of hours until thier appt" and the usual mix of semi urgent pt's and EMS arrivals then you can see why the system bogs down. I feel sorry for those who seem to fall thru the cracks , but ER's today have become the last hope for medical care and or an outpost for MD's offices
  20. Part of the problem with recruiting volunteers today is the ECONOMY. The days when your boss/company woulds let you leave to go to a call are gone. The days when you lived and worked in the same community are also gone. The problem is further excacerbated by the creeping urbanization of the northern suburbs with a lot of possible volunteers now traveling to their jobs in the city or elsewhere and after commuting to and fro have no time to spend traning or respondig to calls.

  23. The dalmation was originally a "coach dod" that would run alongside English coaches , it evolved into a fire house dog when apparatus was horse drawn. These dogs could run all day without getting tired.Unfortunately when I brought my dalmation to the station and an alarm came in it s*** all over the place.
