  1. Talk about a do everything apparatus. Thank god they are in Mass. cause you probably need a degree from M.I.T to operate it

As a retired firefighter/paramedic and present day R.N who has worked inE.Rs for the last 15 years,and has seen the ever increasing patient load over those years I dont know if "freebies "willincrease pt satifactionThe increasing use of Fast Track areas and local urgent care centers helps solve the problem of waiting time sometimes only if it is within thier scope of practice. Then you have patients who present stating they had a Dr's appointment .but "just could'nt wait" or any of the other minor drama's that show up at triage it becomes apparent that ER's are now the new Dr's offices.Also the advent ofcomputerized charting seems to slow things down a little,you see RN's spending a lot of time at a keyboard ,or checking the tracking board.

  4. Taking care of the area around your staion is within the realm of station duties,but providing basically DPW duties is a little far fetched. The question being, what if you are on the far side of your assigned response district cutting grass when you are assigned fisrt due to a confirmed structure fire???

As my sign on implies I am a retired FF ,spent 20 + years both as a volunteer and a career FF.As to why I joined the fire service,I guess a desire to help people and after a while the camradirie of the Brotherhood that anyone in the fire service,both career and volunteer ,finds that binds us all together .
  6. Having lived thru 3 changes of Ten Codes during my career I can agree with the use of plain English as a communication medium. However I believe ther should be a commonality for all Emergency Services to agree upon
