When will we see it in the firehouse?
The new Engine 58 will be going into production with in the week. These are the final blue print drawings.

We have no problem with our aerial and it serves us well. We saw its jacking capabilities with the Yonkers specs and felt it was a great fit for us. As a member of our truck commitee I agree with Izzy that you get what you spec. It pays to have qualifield people in this process.
Have you operated a Smeal pumper or aerial before? I have and we have not encountered a problem with thier apparatus. Remember, what the truck committee specs is what you get.
-
Ill take the over.If Smeal is still providing the aerials for Ferrara then the rigs will have to be driven to Nebraska where the ladder is to be built and mounted then to Louisiana for final assembly. This whole process might take some time for a large order if both companies don't scale back on some orders.
Either way, I think it's a safe bet that you will not see a Ferrara aerial in the FDNY fleet for some time. We'll start with a year, who wants the over/under?
-
Georgia Power from Atlanta working in Rye.
That's a test of the aerial system hydraulics to make sure check valves hold. When linesman go up in these buckets and start working, they kill the truck's engine, then restart it from the bucket to move around as needed.

Can someone from MV give us some background info on his qualifications or lack of and any employment history?

Just saw on Ch2 news that a student was murdered.

The Florida Keys? Really? You lucky bastard! Was there once for a few hours and vowed to return. I decided to take a drive while I was in Miami. (It didnt look THAT far on a map) Anyway, congrats Capt!
-
And I was really starting to feel safe when I went into the city. Does this mean all the hookers and pimps will be coming back to Times Square? LOL
-
Would we be referring to the picture with everyone riding on top of the ladder?!?
Thats the one

EFD, Thats it!

Are all the water leaks fixed in the compartments or was it sold as is ?
The compartments were resealed at the dealer soon after the situation was discovered.
-
I think a good place to start could be dual dept responses or automatic mutual aid. A lot of depts are already using system and it seems to work.
-
Thats just disgusting.
-
Seems like a great simple truck. A stock unit probably saved quite a bit of cash. What was the final price?
-
OK so now its sold. why was it for sale?
I heard a rumor that eventually both rigs would be sold to purchase a new TL. Just a rumor though.

According to LFD171's photo website, the half doors were there pre-refurb.

From what I remember this rig wasnt delivered with doors. It has alot of work done over the years and I thought the half doors were an add on, I could be wrong

Rest In Peace

Wow very impressive, NEFEA was great for our ladder too.
-
I wonder what peope use as the basis of thier choice?
Is it looks?
Is it the name?
Is it the fact that some major dept uses them so thats why?
What about maintenance, how well do they hold up? In my career I have seen a ladder fail because a manufacture forgot to recall a defective design. I have also seen 10 year old frame rails rust so bad that the vehicle may have to be scraped. Also rigs that leaked everytime it rained. And another brand that the radiators fall out every 16 months.
In the past 11 months I have worked with 2 different manufacturers to build an engine and a rescue. The experiences were night and day.
One I would buy from again and again. They were professional, got the job done well with very minimal issues. The other was very painful, we got what we wanted, but not without major effort on our part.
I suspect that the majority of posters have never actually purchased apparatus. It changes your perspective about companies. Since most components are the same from one manufacturer to the next, the bigger issue is how they perform and how they support their product.
Eng. 6 was reported to be very reliable when Blacky and Scout was the hourse power.
Let me guess, was the Rescue more painfull?
-
Chris. The difference between it being your vehicle and the government's is that tax dollars pay for the latter. You can buy a car and add 100k worth of lights and sirens to it. No one would complain - it's your money after all. But if the government spends that money, which could be going to better use, then it becomes a problem. I personally think it's a waste of money.
We dont know who the vehicle is for so its all speculation anyway.

Let me see if I get this straight... If this was my truck and I tricked it out this way it would be OK but if it is an official vehicle to be used by emergency responders that would be ridiculous?
Have you looked at most emergency vehicles these days? They're comparably equipped. So the base vehicle is the Denali package, perhaps there's a reason for the power that we don't know about.
Since we don't know who owns or operates it, or why it is equipped as it is, how can we judge the ridiculousness?
Chris, I have to agree with you and an earlier post. This vehicle has a luxury and performance package for a reason, and alot of horsepower was added here. Seems to me (my opinion),that some VERY HIGH rnking official and asscociates might be in transit and it probably needs to try to outrun a threat if necessary. With the constant terror threats these days, I understand.

Yes it was, right off of Rt 1.

Ya need a sharp knife to split hairs.
Just trying to clarify. Alot of restaurants are down by the waterfront and this is in the total opposite direction.
