  1. Does YHFD have an extremely heavy fire load that we don't know about? Has it become the South Bronx of the 70's? Can't see the justification in a new station being built sorry! How many calls does YHFD respond to on average and how many were structure fires? What is their average response times and I'm not talkin about on a Saturday afternoon or night when members may be more inclined to hang out at quarters? I don't think the answer will warrant a new station. JMO
  2. Whose responsible for the kitchen in the Stations anyway the City?
  3. I see many Depts in lower Westchester had to relocate to cover those sent to Greenville's 10-75. I have two questions 1) Was this mass shuffle warranted and 2) Isn't Eastchester down to 2 Ladders with only one having a working Aerial. If so r u {:content:}amp;^%$ kiddin me? How could anybody in their right mind think that's OK? Do me a favor explain to me the rational and justification in that decission. Very poor judgement boys and girls imo. I cant believe FDMV sent a Ladder to cover Eastchester. There's a Dept. that just got their 3rd Truck back in service, and has a heavy fire load but because of mismanagement next door to them, has to strip their City, its taxpayers and most of all their members of desperately needed manpower and equipment, jeopardizing everyones Safety. When is Management goin to put the needs of those they swore an oath to protect first and stop always trying to be the nice guy. This $^*% has got to stop! Unbelievable!
  4. Kudos to the Bloomberg Administration for taking a stance to the Vulcans. At least he won't back down to them like others. Those Societies have single handidly destroyed what was once a prestigious Job. Oh that's right, they're nothing more then a Fraternal Organization, I forgot. "F" them and the horse they rode in on!
  5. Can you answer why FDMV isn't sent to Greenville then for a JOB but 60 Control sends Greenville to FDMV. The M/A agreement for Westchester seems to be out of wack in many areas. Again my problem with this Incident today isn't so much the request for m/a it's Depts. supplying it that have no business doing so.
  6. Can you blame them? Where's the Union stand on this issue?
  7. Depends on how many guys are on duty and how big a Job it is to start with. If many units were turned around then maybe that "panic button" was hit once again that I spoke of in the other thread. My problem really is with those Depts that send m/a to others and really can't afford to and shouldn't. Many Depts that provide m/a also don't implement a call back to staff their spares. Don't know about you but I look out for my own first, and that includes the taxpayers that pay my salary. Everyone else comes second.
  8. While I tend to agree with some of the views on this topic there is also the other side of the coin and that is your IC's callin mutual aid immediately to a scene or in for coverage many times before they even arrive to an Incident. I can recall on more then one occassion coming out of a "Bread and Butter" Job that is under control and seeing m/a Depts. staged outside and wanting to wring the IC's neck for embarrasing us. Then comes the ball busting later that day from your peers on the Job and within those m/a Depts. calling you "pathetic" and wanting to know "does anybody in your Group or on your Job know what the $uck they're doin?" Is it my Pride that is hurt and the answer is Yes and you know what there's nothing wrong with that. Yes your Pride can get you hurt but i've also seen it put out fires. Nothing wrong with a Depts. members wanting to handle their own and busting their asses. I'm not saying you should fight a Conflagration with a skeleton crew but for God's sake do you really need 2 to 3 neighboring Depts. for a 1 or 2 room Job? If your showin up with 5 to 7 members then yes you do and a solution has to be found to correct it but this should not be a problem for 15 to 20 dedicated members. I remember an FDNY senior and well respected Battalion Chief saying he'd rather fight your average house fire with 12 well dedicated, proud and most of all "competent" firefighters then 20 "jackasses" who can give a rats a** about the Job bumping into each other and having no clue what to do. Usually this is one of those instances where your average Job goes thru the roof and additional alarms are struck or m/a is requested. I'm not downplaying calling for assistance if it's required, I'm just wondering if it is needed as much as it is called for. I think the panic button in the IC's car may be pushed just a little too much and too early sometimes. JMO
  9. Good Topic guys! Just out of curiosity there always seems to be a debate on where to position your apparatus. Never heard a clear concise answer from anyone. Do you stop all apparatus before the house? At the beginning of the block? One piece past the residence and one before it? I guess it also depends on what your Dept. SOP is for stretching also. Does your Dept. do a Reverse Lay? Forward Lay? In-Line pumping? Relaying? I'm sure these will all have an influence on where to stage apparatus.
  10. Isn't there any Dept. out there that can lone you guys one for awhile? Pretty sure YFD has a few spares.
  11. Fire everyone and start over!
  12. Barry not for nothing but many guys out there do the Job cause their heart is into it and actually enjoy it not so much for the $$$$$, although it is nice to to be fairly compensated for it.
  13. Excellent training video on what not to do! What a disaster! Does anybody out there wear gear? This is the 2nd video of them takin a line in thru a basement window. It must b part of their SOPS. Every video ive seen of them looks like nothing but mass chaos. What are the Standards to get on that Job just b breathing?
  14. Rescue Co.? A Rescue that's in service 24/7/365 with at least 3 men and an Officer that are well trained in Special OPS. The only Depts. in Westchester that provide this is White Plains and Yonkers. However I wouldn't take a rig out of service to keep a Rescue in service which I believe WPFD has done. To me that makes no sense. While on this topic those Depts. that due have 4 man Rescue Cos. which are in service everyday are the guys on it required to mutual out with only other Rescue members assigned to it or can any Tom, Dick and Harry jump on board for the ride and does the same apply for an OT member needed to be assigned to it?
  15. I guess it also depends on if the Chief's position is an appointed one or civil service. If it's appointed he works for the Mayor for the most part and if it's civil service he usually works for the Dept. or at least should.
  16. Standards, what are Standards? If nobody cares about having Standards to get on the Job how can you have dress code standards. You get what you pay for, why is it such a surprise to everyone. I know one thing if the Mayor of the Vern ever heard the numerous comments about Chief "Bluetoooth" even from ordinary citizens, I'm sure he'd probably be second guessing his choice for Chief.
  17. That's the trend of the Job Brother let's do more with less. Always loved that mentality of having do take on more things like EMS for the so called "Productiviy" argument. Then we turn around and they lay guys off and put rigs out of service. That makes sense!
  18. Excellent post Lt.! Maybe it'll inspire some guys both old and new and remind them of what the Job is all about or what it should be about!
  19. I won't take it personaly but I've been in this Business quite a long time and just get tired of the hypocracy Bro. if I can call you that. Many guys say one thing and then do the opposite, and I'm really gettin tired of the b/s. I'm just calling a spade a spade. I'm sure you can even agree to some extent you've probably seen it all too often also in your Dept.. Anyway stay safe!
  20. First of all you don't have to buy anything cause i'm not selling anything and your right it was an after thought but just another example why some may not want a transferee. I'm sure there's many other reasons why some guys would not want it either. Let me ask you something there Capt, what do you think is worse and a true slap in the face to the Brotherhood guys not taking transfers from other Depts. for whatever the reason may be or a members fellow so called Brothers not making concessions on a negotiated contract or one to be negotiated, to save their fellow Union Brothers Job. The latter seems to be the most prevalent reason guys get laid off and not only in FD Unions but other Organized Labor Agencies. And your worrying about me padding my pension with ot, which I have every right to do instead of a Union memeber getting laid off cause his Brothers thru him to the wolves. C'mon!
  21. As far as your first comments are concerned i don't know what your even talking about. Why would it have to do with you personally? Want to elaborate? I honestly don't even know who you are. I also don't understand how me personally not wanting to take tranfers became a platform for the Consolidation Plan. How would this also persuade mebers to retire. Do you really think they would send senior members down to the Vern and that would force them to retire or would they send those with seniority to the smaller and quiter areas and let them ride out the remainder of their career, like many Depts. already do within. Hell, you may get some that don't even want to retire. I think our best bet is for some greenburgh members to chime in and give us their honest opinion.
  22. True but you cant force anyone to retire. Maybe they got it so good they want to stay for awhile?
