  1. WOW, do you want our jobs over here? Dispatchers 4557 and 4566 signing off.
  2. Well, its 21:46 (9:46pm for those non-military time people) at Lincolndale Station and there is only about 2 " on the ground with what appears to be only flurries in the air. Bring on the real snowfall!!!
  3. Mohegan Vollies have been in a town league for the past few years. I'll spread the word to the other members and get a consensus.
  4. In Mohegan, the FAS Team responds with either Eng. 255 or Eng. 258 and Eng. 257 is a back-up to the FAS Team. Each Engine has a full sets of hand tools, hydraulic tools, air bags, various saws, Stokes Basket, EMS equipment. Other equipment used includes: 1) FAS Team bags with ropes, pulleys, webbing, harnesses 2) Bullard thermal imaging camara, 3) SCOTT RIT Pak. Members of the FAS Team respond to either Headquarters on Rt 6 or directly to the scene. 6 members are typical wanted, although a minimum of 4 members are needed to cover the call. The FAS Team is made up of about 20 volunteers firefighters, with one career personnel on each call.
  5. When planning the purchase of a new apparatus, should the type/set up of the purchasing department's rig be influenced by a neighboring department's needs along with the needs of the individual department? Ex....buying a tower ladder, when the neighboring dept's type of Truck is a straight stick, and either type of truck (straight or tower) purchased is feasible for the individual FD's needs.
  6. Well, I was the first to know. Heck, I told you the good news, LOL. Anyway, I look forward to working with you in the future! It should be fun.
  7. I feel that an electronic PCR would be useful, especially since computers are being used in so many capacities today. I would think it would be easier to log in the info and be able to understand the info after the fact. Also, it would be easier to store the PCR's for future reference. I just can't see every Ambulance Corps running out and buying laptops or palm pilots for every rig. However, i can see electronic devices being phased into EMS in due time.
  8. My name is Chris. I'm a volunteer firefighter with Mohegan. I am a communications operator in Westchester...any guesses where?? Anyway, I have been posting a small amount of info for EMTBravo and look forward to posting in the future.
  9. My useless knowledge comes thru again, haha. Well, since I was correct, here's my question: What Ambulance Corps was founded in 1961, in which the Mohegan Volunteer FD covered for all EMS calls up to this new Corps existence?
  10. Thanks for the info about the disposable "digital" camara. I'll have to look into that.
  11. I have to admit, I am jealous...51 Truck and 57 Truck are awesome trucks!! Hmm...maybe its because I can't operate one, lol.
  12. How about a section dealing with firehouse expansions/renovations, changes that occur in the varying depts...etc. Anything relative to changes that happen.
  13. Guys, no matter where it is decided to be held, i think its a great idea! Why didnt anybody think of this before?? LOL
  14. YVAC's first location was at the intersection of Rt. 202/35 and Springhurst St. The former YVAC building is now used by the Yorktown School District.
  15. I feel that a centralized dispatch center for both Fire and EMS would work much better than the current dispatch/radio sytem in the county. A lot of the guess work between the different dispatch agencies would be eliminated. Phone calls and notifications between seperate dispatch centers would end with a new system, which in turn, would decrease the time delay in dispatching an alarm. Also, all communications would be dispatched from 1 center, eliminating different agencies stepping on each other on the already conjested frequencies. A new frequency system should also be set up with more channels or more organization of the current channels including the UHF fire ground channels should be revised to eliminate agencies from stepping on eachother, as seen during storms or multiple incidents operating at the same time. With the current confusion between the different agencies plus the over-use of the frequencies now, I feel a centralized dispatch center would work better for Westchester.
