  1. How about coming into the 21st century and getting rid of all the unnecessary things places have in their dispatch and keeping it short and sweet. That way when there's a storm or tons of alarms you can still manage dispatching like professionals.

"60 control to XXX" Why do we need to say "60 Control to"? All the other stuff "all home units/monitors"

    How about

Tones then "XXX respond to 222 Main Street between Leaf and Tree Streets for a indoor odor of smoke apartment 2B on the second floor"

If your dispatchers can't do it don't worry they have a computer that can.

As far as "60 control to xxx" can that be eliminated? Sure why not if it is a structured dept. Only those tones are being activated and who else would be dispatching them if not 60?

Now for non structured depts since no specific apparatus is being dispatched then 60-control to xxx dept sounds a little better.

Some of the extra you hear is because that is requested by the individual depts. some depts cover more then 1 community so they request that town or village be added to the dispatch.

  2. It is such BS stop with the threats of lay offs or cutting posistions. Try starting at the top and working down. Example: Why does every department head need a take home car? Especially the ones who do not even live within the county. But they continue to threaten the people who have to work 24/7 no matter the weather use their own vehicles pay for their own gas to get back and forth to work but we will give someone who works 9-5 Monday - Friday a new car all the has they need and yeah will even pay for the repairs.

  3. The Deaprtments that use the Trunked System "full time" are (if I remember correctly):

    Armonk - Fire 16

    Banksville - Fire 16

    Bedford Hills - Fire 16

    Bedford - Fire 16

    Chappaqua - Fire 16

    Croton Falls - Fire 13

    Fairview - Fire 14

    Goldens Bridge - Fire 13

Hawthorne - Fire 11 (EMS 11 for EMS)

    Irvington - Fire 14

    Katonah - Fire 16

    Mamaroneck Town - Fire 15

    Mount Kisco - Fire 16

    Sleepy Hollow - Fire 12

North White Plains - Fire 19

    Pleasantville - Fire 11

    Purchase - Fire 19

    South Salem - Fire 13

    Thornwood - Fire 11

    Valhalla - Fire 11

    Vista - Fire 13

    Yorktown - Fire 17

Westchester EMS (45 Medics) use EMS 13 or EMS 16 depending on where the call is)

    Katonah-Bedford Hills VAC - EMS 16

Mount Kisco VAC - EMS 16

Pound Ridge VAC - EMS 13

  4. Way to go, "Uncle" Ricky...B)

Thanks "Uncle" Merry Christmas to and Joyce

Like the last part of the answer regarding how quickly help generally lives - "depending on where you live." Tough question, especially in this County, but you gave a solid and very professional answer - as was previously mentioned. I can't imagine the frustration you guys experience regarding some response times...

Nice to see a piece on the 60 Control dispatchers - all too often they (and probably all dispatchers more generally) don't get the recognition they deserve. Radio systems may occasionally be problematic, dispatch information may be scant despite best efforts and locations may be slightly incorrect - but it is always nice to talk to talk to 60 control.

Thanks brother. Yes it can get frustrating but you learn to deal with it.. ;)

great job by done by 630 and all the personel at "60" control. remember that whe you wake me up at 5 am :D

It is hard to wake someone up at 5am when they are always on vacation. Merry Christmas

Good article, very well done. Nice to see us behind the scenes folks shown in a good light.

    Thanks Brother.

  5. Interesting article in Westchester Magazine about 630. Great article, and paints the often not-seen part of the response in a positive light. And Ricky's answers were very professional. I worked with Ricky for several years, and he is a GREAT guy and good friend- glad to see him spotlighted like this. He is also one of the very first members to join this forum.
