  1. The pictures do not do them justice. I guess they recently hung up tempory cabinets and gave them s countertop. The place is not somewhere you would want to eat in unless you like action. Lol. The guys at 306 deserve better. Vote for them!
  2. Yonkers did close to 16,000. Give or take. About the same in the last couple of years.
  3. You can't fix stupid!
  4. Looking back at my four years attending marist and the off campus houses that were available to us, anyone with knowledge in the fire service would probably be opposed to having a loved one live in anyone of them. Never crossed my mind back in the day and probably wouldn't if I was not in this career. Most were railroad style, wainscot in the hallways, front and rear porches and probably balloon construction. On campus housing was scarse for juniors and seniors back in the day. Since then they built lots of college housing. Thoughts and prayers to friends and families!
  5. How about taking it as constructive criticism. Unless you think its the norm for a house to burn down to the ground.
  6. From the looks of the photo's showing not much more than a chimney remaining, I would have to say any pre-plans if any in place did not work. Unless there were exposure issues of course. At least no one was injured.
  7. A thread discussing strictly apparatus response in Westchester for curiosity without also addressing the current problems the majority of depts are facing is a waste of time IMO.
  8. I wonder how they work in thick heavy smoke?
  9. It must be like a chinease fire drill when personnel show up at various times without riding positions. Its tough enough with members having assigned duties. What a challenge. Merry christmas!
  10. Its not like he passed his interior ff class or better yet competed on an entrance exam. I would think its Physically impossible for him to stretch the 5 lengths from the rear top of a typical engine. If his boss tells him to grab a six foot hook, so he grabs an 8 instead. And there's always ladders for the other stuff!
  11. I was fortunate to get a personal tour of the complex and pick out my office. Haha! The place has great potential and the concept will work in time. Wish all those involved lots of luck and success. There will be a line out the door once the indoor range opens.
  12. I remember seeing the majority from Long Beach LI (3-4 guys) when i was up there teaching the YFD class. One from scarsdale, a few hartsdale and larchmont and I think maybe one from portchester. Long Island does not have a fire academy?
  13. Thank you Chief for your dedication to the Yonkers Fire Dept especially the soc division. You helped provide us with the latest and greatest equipment making Yonkers an elite dept. We are truly going to miss you!
  14. What sad news. Rip NYPD's finest.
  15. You state gaps in coverage and safety, potential loss of property and life? Isnt that the reason why this whole merger and hiring paid staff in some of the volunteer houses started. What good is a fire house in your neighborhood with inadequate staffing on occasion? Id rather have a firehouse a couple miles away with ff's waiting for the bell to hit. Hope this complicated situation turns out the best for the safety of the citizens.
  16. *-+ It is an over ambundance. Take a city like yonkers for example. 200,000 people, approx 50 sq miles and over 15,000 runs a year. All covered by 11 engines, 6 trucks and one rescue.
  17. Being that I am from the area and never heard of the dept. I am curious how many runs a year also.
  18. When I lived in yonkers my taxes were $8000,00. year. Four engines, two trucks and a heavy rescue all within approx 8 min response time fully staffed. Paying twice the amount now in taxes for same house value. Now Iam lucky if a single rig shows up in 15 minutes on some occasions.
  19. I agree. Drove by and witnessed it first hand. Millwood and somers ladders used to drape flag across rt 6. Turnouts and helmet positioned on chair in front of fhouse along with casket on back of engine. Police details driving around on gators. Been to several lodd unfortunately. Only thing missing was missing man formation and the amount of ffs in class A's. Not trying to disrespect but you have to draw the line. When u make the ultimate sacrifice you deserve the ultimate ceremony. Thoughts and prayers to all of the families and friends!
  20. How about all the chiefs that use their dept suvs to commute out of town for work cut back a few days and use that fuel for emergencies? Every morning I see this one guy who drives from northern Westchester down to con ed in eastview.
  21. Rides definately, wake-up calls maybe, rap sheets credit go east young man.
  22. Does anybody know what was the initial response time of the wctrt and how many members? Nice rescue by the way.
  23. I use to deer hunt with him on his property while in college in the 90's. Recently ran into him at a traffic stop after 20 yrs. Small world. Way to go ray!!
  24. 3.1 miles away at 0230 in the a.m. not too bad of an eta I would guess.
  25. You are 100 % correct. At least the part-time guy is getting paid and not doing it for free. Talk about living in a glass house.
