  4. I went to probie school with a guy from Manlius, ff Rob Finger. He knew both Brothers that died that day. To hear him tell the story was very chilling.
  5. I agree %100 Chief, great post!
  6. I can appriciate tommyguys opinion, and he is right we all need to act when we see these type of things. These situations always make me think when I am at work and my wife and children are out on the road.... But Dan is right.... I have called 911 many times for eratic drivers... people argueing with children in the car, eratic driving with children in the car... and not once have I ever had an officer get there in time..... Buy no means do I think it is Law Enforcements fault, Like Dan said right place right time .... and spread to thin I travel the TSP from Millbrook (Dutchess County) to Maria Fareri Childern Hospital at Westchester Medical Center and the doctors offices on Bradhurst Ave and even down to the Ardsley / Greenburgh exit to Sawmill River Rd quite often and pass that spot all the time.. and I said to my wife that could have been us.. Just makes you think alot about life and how precious your family and friends are!
  7. I have never been to an accident with that many deaths at one time. I have been to ones and twos and an occasional three but never eight. And children involved just puts a different spin on the whole thing.... Keep your heads up guys, seek help if it is offered. This one you won't forget... AND AS FOR THE DRIVER THAT CAUSED THIS HORRIBLE ACCIDENT I HAVE NO WORDS!!!! This just makes me hug my kids a little tighter and I tell them I love them even more... May they rest in peace
  8. Well, this brings to mind a call I was on 2 years ago at Main Street and Innis Avenue in Poughkeepsie. On the way back from a run at about dusk, I was the driver of our Tower Ladder and a lady was waving at me franticly as we were stopped at a light. A Civilian was under the dual wheels of the rig getting his cell phone that he had knocked off his side when getting out of his car. So I looked back as he was crawling out from under the rig and I asked him if he had thought that going under the rig was a good idea without even coming up to my door without telling me. All he had to say was "my cell phone was under the truck" I then told him he was very lucky that the lady in the van stopped us from moving as I had no idea that he was under there, and that if we had ran him over he would have been killed as our Tower is 66,000 lbs.... What an idiot!
  9. Yes sir we are. When you said the steel tanks, it just brought me back to when I joined thr fire service in my Volly Department in Dutchess, we had 2A's with steel tanks. We then upgraded to 2.2 masks in the mid 90's. We now use 4.5's pak 50 . I like the wire frames my self with the alligator clips. It just fits me better and I can get the waist strap tight, then loosen the shoulder straps. YES I SAID WAIST STRAP!!!!! LOL
  10. 10-4 k!! missed them!!!!!
  11. The old 2A was a killer on the back, YOU COULD CHEAT A LITTLE MORE WITH THE MASK HOSE! I agree, those steel tanks were very heavy compared to todays Masks. Now you are bringing me back to the late 80s!
  12. I was thinking the same thing when I viewed these great shots!!!! Some of the things I see in those shots, I still see today ........ LOL I DIDN'T SEE ANY RED BALL RUBBER GLOVES......LOL
  13. nfd2004 ...... I may be a little off ,and totally understand where you are coming from since I know the heretage of the FDNY and have had family and friends die in the line of duty...and I do not want to stirr up a hornets nest. Firefighters and Police Officers and Ems workers ARE ORDINARY PEOPLE WHO DO EXTRAORDINARY THINGS... There was a post about the Walbaums Fire Started Yesterday AT 2:22 PM BY YOU... it sounds to me like you are making a comparison because "The Captain" was famous. Can we remember both?
  14. I have had some experience with water jell in all my years in the fire service. I also thought it stung a little before getting rid of most of the pain ... I mostly used it for minor hand and arm burns because I use to work in a pizza place.. I had a Lt. at work who is retired now that had gotten some thy burns in a flashover back when they wore hip boots and the scar that he has is noticably less where the water jell was.
