This weekend Metro North, as part of its year celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Grand Central Terminal held a Parade of Trains. Various locomotives and cars that have been used in the past by predecessor railroads such as the New York Central railroad, and equipment used today were on display.
First up was this Electro Motive Diesel FL-9, ordered by the New Haven Railroad in 1960. It was painted into New York Central colors in 1999 to celebrate 150 years of the Hudson River Railroad. It was retired in in 2000 and donated to he Danbury Railway Museum

Next was ACMU 1171 Air Conditioned Multiple Unit, originally ordered by the New York Central in 1962 from the Pullman Standard Co.

Th ACMUs were retired in 2004. Here is a view of the operators controls, which seem primitive when compared to todays equipment

Why I try only comment on Police issues, there is a few things that need to addressed here:
1-Ballistic vests will not protect anyone from a .223cal round as was used in W.Webster
2-Vests serve zero protection from an explosive, and dosen't help with projectiles such as the case in Boston.
3-If there's a need for EMS to wear vests, because of the dangers of the job, than the EMS providers shouldn't be in any area until PD deems it safe.
4-EMS uniforms, are looking like more PD uniform's,especially with all the stitching and back panels, which is not a good idea, and can be unsafe.I have seen people walk up to them on Job's thinking they were the PD. NOT GOOD....
While I'm all for protection of everyone on a scene,I think EMS wearing PPE on calls especially MVA's is probably money better spent,I can telll you from over 30 years on the Job,a vest is not the answer to the problem, bottomline,if it isn't safe, you shouldn't be there.
So,I'm not sure of the justification for buying the vests???

Ho-ho-ho! Look what Santa delivered this week!
Engines 6-1 and 6-2 are twin Spartan/Marion pumpers with 2000gpm QMAX pumps, 500 gallon tank and 30 gal Class "A" foam.
The lettering and goldleaf will be completed "in the next few weeks" since some of the extra parts have not yet arrived.
The members were working on ENG6-1, so most of the pics are ENG6-2

Thank you very much, this is what the inside of the ambulance would look like. It is one of the older models so there's a little more space in the one I posted.

Got the answer. These are spring well hydrants. These hydrants have a pump at the bottom of the pipe in the well. The well pump needs a power source so an electrical cord is attached to the pumper as it is hooked up to the hydrant. Since some of the areas in the North Fork don't have a good water supply.
Mattituck and Cutchouge have the special built pump and electrical connections for these hydrants. Go to the link here for pics and the explanation: www.cutchoguefiredept.org/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=324

The New Hackensack Fire Department, Town of Wappinger Ambulance/TransCare, Stat-Flight, and the NYSP - Wappinger operated at this auto accident with entrapment on the evening of January 6th......

Personnel arrived to find a heavily damaged vehicle in an unstable position with an adult male occupant with head trauma. Here a firefighter stabilizes the front of the vehicle.

    From the front.....

A charged hoseline is in place as crews get to work.....

A Lieutenant stays with the patient as crews start their task of removing the roof under the watchful eye of a TransCare Medic.

The position the vehicle came to rest in made for a slightly challenging extrication.

Firefighters make one of many relief cuts in the vehicles roof.....

The precarious position of the vehilce made for some awkward cutting positions.....

"Don't let that go" Firefighters lift the roof.....

TransCare medics get access to their patient.....

Medics work on the patient as firefighters begin to clean up......

The New Hackensack Fire Department, Town of Wappinger Ambulance/TransCare Medics, and the NYSP - Wappinger were dispatched for a "reported plow truck on fire" I/A/O #1 Martin Drive. Units arrived to find a 1 ton dump body plow truck with the cab fully involved and fire impinging on a ~ 250 gallon tank of unknown contents that was in the dump body...... Crews used a single line to cool the tank and then quickly extinguish the fire w/o incident. The driver was nowhere to be found and the plates were missing too..... Apparently the driver removed the trucks plates and fled...... The NYSP are looking for both the driver and vehicles owner.....

Crews have their line flaked out and prepare to get masked up......

    Ya ready?

Using the nozzles reach to cool the tank......

Hitting the running fuel fire as the neighbors watch......

    Moving up on it......

Hitting the main body of fire..... The Lieutenants guide a "green" firefighter.....

    Now ya got it.....

    Fire knocked down........

The new HME 18' walk-around heavy rescue for SFRD Rescue Co. #1 was completed on February 24th and inspected in Wyoming, MI. the same day. It will be shipped next week and then be outfitted. All drawers, shelving, and mounting will be completed by Twin Lights of Milford CT. The rig has a 400 hp Cummings engine, a 35 kW PTO generator, 6000W light tower, 9000 lbs. Ramsey removable winch, and lots of storage space. The current 2000 Freightliner / Hackney medium duty rescue will become Rescue #2. The current Rescue #2, a 1990 Mack / Ranger 20' walk-in rescue is slated to me transferred to another city agency. The new rescue will allow the company to carry more heavy rescue gear that is currently spread out between the rescue, tactical support unit (mini-bus), and the technical rescue trailer.
