  1. did superwhacker get whacked from the site????   :-P
  2. Okay, I guess i missed this one before my last post...oh yeah if you follow the EMD protocol you are covered by the company that trained you and are able to show a nationally approved response system that has been proven to work throughout the world...You asked all the right questions and evaluated those answers...sent the appropriate unit with the correct type of response...if the info is bad you are not at fault...but if it is b/s and you send a bus at a higher priority and they get killed or kill someone in an auto accident which would be worse...use your head... And my explanation is: "Sir we responded as directed on the information received by directed questioning keeping in mind the safety of the majority of the public the best we could. In my estimation the difference in time to the scene based on response priority was minute and we choose to provide the safest response possible by sending the closest available appropriate piece of equipment. Based on my training and experience I feel that my decision was correct and I would not change that even knowing the outcome and would respond the same way in the future."
  3. I haven't seen one post that put down EMD so far even if it is used at a minimum...anybody want to partake in negating these positives or is it unanimous(?) that EMD does work????
  4. Oh yeah and thanks go out to the 202 car (especially billy sullivan!)...and all the ESU guys that busted their asses to get there asap...
  5. I believe that all EMS personell need to exercise common sense, be prepared, and have some knowledge of self defense... Personally I have run into some situations while I worked as an EMT in Yonkers...in one my partner and I rec'd bad info as to a 4 year old EDP called in by the father...policy sts, "wait for the police"...however our spvr std that since the 3 trucks and multi 2/3/4 pct units were tied up on a home invansion rob w/ shooting that we should proceed in and evaluate the sit. feeling that were knew what to do...4 y/o EDP should be easy huh...well you know those feelings you get as you do this longer and longer??? well I do and this was one of those times something wasn't right...we entered the bldg and on the way up I turned to my partner and let him know it wasn't going to be routine and unfortunately I was right...upon entering the apt...my partner (901!!!!!!--still my favorite partner though) allowed the door to shut behind us...while interviewing the caller/complainant/father...his 34yo daughter whom was a paranoid schizo/bi polar/off meds EDP came around the corner...the father ran and hid in the bedroom and it was me and her...and she wasn't a light-weight...screaming and yelling at us...thinks we are the police...I was prepared to fight my way out if I had too...she and I stood off for approx. 5 minutes while my partner left me in the apt alone to radio in for backup...she backed off momentarily and I got out...first radio car arrives and we are discussing what to do when she comes out and brings it to us...Needless to say she lost at this time but it took the 3 of us to take her down and cuff her...of course a moment later the elevator opened and there was the cavalry...not my fav call but all ended well and no one got hurt... I knew I would be able to defend myself however there is no reason to get into something without the approp man power...but all persons going to these calls should have some type of training...and if you don't then stand back...and wait for those who know...and use your common sense, don't let someone mentally unstable...whether intoxicated/high/edp/diabetic...get the advantage...always stage yourself with an exit and a defense...stand to the side...make it hard for them to grab you...take your speaker mic wire out of reach...wear a clip on tie if your uniform requires one...when knocking on any door stand to the side, not directly in front...and try not to agitate persons when you don't have too...and as the last person said you, your partner, your equip, and then everybody else...and use your head...oh yeah stay safe out there...
  6. I liked it when the dispatcher could choose to send a medic or a bls bus at Empress...had to determine via "EMD"as to whether the need was there...and of course save the medics some writing if poss...If it is a fall or something why can't the VAC/EMS service handle it alone...not all calls need paramedics...maybe the one time they are the only one in a particular district and an ALS job comes in they wouldn't be waiting on scene for the ambulance to get to a BLS job that they can't leave until they hand care down or face abandonment...
  7. As for Yonkers---they have only hired off of the English Speaking List thus far... #1--hired last year March/April-ish #2--Started Friday...(h-i-n-t) #3--will most likely be hired in May...from the rumors floating around the county...and will not be passed over... Hopefully the City will be adding one more spot and that will have to be hired for as well...Hopefully it will be Spanish speaking so someone gets promoted as well (promoted in pay/grade level)...
  8. 648 what was your list number on the last...cause i believe there were only 14 persons that passed the written and typing and I know that at least 10 have been hired off of that list... #1--deferred (correct?) #2-- Unk. #3--fire control #4--police #5--not hired #6--police #7--police #8--police #9--fire control #10--fire control I believe this is accurate but I don't work for West Cnty personell and would not know exactly how to confirm it...
  9. hopefully at least 21...and are they hiring to fill to NFPA standards???
  10. What will they do when that "1 person" scores just as high every time? Will they just shut down or will they hire...???
  11. me...or a 100 and good timing...they don't hire all too often...as for Westchester County that may be sooner than originally thought...am hearing the the Cnty Police just hired a few off of that list (poss 6?)...that would help exhaust that list pretty quickly...
  12. EMD works period I personally have delivered a baby following the cards and initiated CPR...If you are alone you can always send the bus and then continue...If it originally was relayed by the pd then you can do a call back and get more info...I believe it is important... and from a legal perspective it gives you a backing to give them instructions and be protected...if you are EMD qualified and give instructions you can be sued...if you are trained than you are covered by a world reknowned system that works and has been proven to work...even in the UK and the Philippines...
  13. That is questionable...it is all about the call taking as well as your departments protocol and how you are trained...certain departments don't send out fd/ems until they are requested by the officer or the dispatcher speaks to the driver or occupant of the vehicle and they relay they are hurt...most of these calls come in from passers by and we (police dispatchers) get many calls and no one really knows what has happenned...however if I speak to a person who says they are hurt, they get an ambulance immediately...and if there is no confirmed injuries then we wait for the car to advise...
  14. snow snow snow snow snow...yeah...time to play with the snow blower again...
  15. saved some cats one time in yonkers...never a rabbit though...guess he had good luck since he had a rabbits foot and all...
  16. Hey that sounds like a....
  17. well if you are in the 46 pct then a sector would be ie: 46adam...a sector is an area of patrol in police lingo
  18. Murray in Da Bronx...hope they send a sector to all his jobs...
  19. If he can drive a tractor at work on the farm why can't he drive his grandpa to the hospital in an ambulance?
  20. Ah, who cares if you crash...when you go mutual aid don't you go on thier insurance??????no really, no lights, no siren...in Yonkers the EMS units are constantly relocating for coverage and that would be a mess if they used their lights to do such...although if you need to get a bite to eat it is okay...
  21. hey seth i think you can order the dvd's from jems itself...one of the ems instructors at wcc used to do that...
  22. wow, peekskill pd's parking guys get regular police cars with just traffic instead of police written on the side...they have red lights and siren as well...the only way you can tell is that they are old caprice's and the officer wears a dark brown uniform...
  23. damn....could you imagine explaining that you wrecked you 250,000 dollar ferrari to your insurance agent?
