  1. A tragic loss for sure but not FD NY so that's why he isn't #344.
  2. He lives in Chicago. He needs all the protection he can get!!!
  3. Full-time coverage for the POTUS and first family is not the same as covering for a day or two for a special visit. I would be interested to know what Chicago did when the Obama's went home to Chicago during his presidency. Did Chicago FD provide dedicated companies to the residence?
  4. You're incorrect. President Obama changed that back to protection for life.
  5. There are troopers assigned to the NYS side. But apparently since they all work in NYC now, they don't patrol it much.
  6. Since when is there a civil service, municipal EMS system in Putnam County? Who is actually going to employ these EMTs? Part time at 15/hour. Nice. No benefits, no pension, no protection. No wonder EMS is so screwed up!
  7. While better information is of course valuable, the only thing that will reduce response times is more crews and don't hold your breath waiting for Con Edison to do that.
  8. The district or municipality in most cases.
  9. Absolutely not true. They may have far more latitude than with tax dollars but they are accountable to the taxpayer on their expenditures.
  10. I find it particularly disturbing that Narcan is being distributed - widely - to combat illegal narcotics while the cost of an epi-pen is borne by the potential victim.
  11. A well placed clandestine confidential informant close the investigation :-) has told me that there was a lengthy discussion about options and to try the Purple K. It was an "experiment". Considering that they used foam from NY and NJ on Sunday, I think we know the result of the experiment. :-)
  12. Pretty damning allegations. Makes you wonder...
  13. This is the biggest problem with the fire service in NYS. There are disparate standards for a career firefighter and volunteer firefighter so you can't say a FF is a FF. Officers also receive widely different training - if any at all - so you can't say they're the same either. Until they hold all to the standard, regardless of pay status, this will continue to be a hot issue in NY.
  14. Prosecuted for what if they respond to calls?
  15. Only one of the places I work has adopted a social media policy but they did have a policy on taking pictures while working. They said that all photos taken while on company time are the property of the company and cannot be shared, published, or otherwise distributed except by the company PIO. Kinda squashes any problems. Now the social media policy says the same thing and also prohibits sharing information or photos of incidents responded to on FB, IG, Twitter, etc. It even goes so far to say that posting to FB, IG, Twitter, SnapChat, etc. while on company time is not allowed. One guy tried to be a jackass about it and got himself in the director's office so they aren't taking it lightly.
  16. How many of the career FF live in the village? They won't carry a lot of clout because they can't do anything for the elected reps of the village. Politics!
  17. A lot of PD's in Westchester have motorcycles already. Yonkers, White Plains, Harrison, County, Ossining, Mamaroneck (not sure which one), Tuckahoe may, and even the State Police have them (although you seldom see them down here). Not sure what the big deal is.
  18. If the problem is "lift assist" calls where they are not requesting medical intervention or transport to a medical facility, why does EMS get assigned at all? Simply tell your dispatch center to stop sending you to lift assists unless an injury or illness is being reported as well. Now if you keep doing them and they agree to pay $200/call, are you saying that will suddenly make it OK?
  19. Do they pay taxes? Does EMS receive tax-funded support? Then they DO contribute. Besides complaining about it here, is anyone doing anything anywhere to remedy the situation?
  20. CPR for 45 minutes before anyone even got to the tugboat? I'm guessing the outcome wasn't good.
  21. The civil service process prevented them from "just hiring" the former TransCare employees. It's not an ideal scenario but they have to abide by the rule of law or we'd all be complaining that some political patronage morons were taking all the jobs.
  22. It wasn't murder. Read the statutes. Murder is a very specific offense.
