  1. E64: To be honest... i'm not opposed to having a fire apparatus going to the scene of an EMS Call... maybe that's just because i'm used to how it works in Syracuse. Syracuse Fire Dept is an ISO 1 rated dept, and run all engine calls with a engine and a "mini" (mini = literally just a pickup truck with an amount of hose on it to hit the hydrant and run it to the engine) - but the mini also carries a trama bag/AED/etc/etc and is staffed by an EMT Basic (hmm, maybe all SFD are basics? not sure) Syracuse runs w/ the opticom system... and only fire apparatus have it, so they have full right of way at every intersection... A mini gets dispatched to "vital" ems calls (unconcious/possible CVA/heart attacks/etc) and 99% of the time are there before the ambulance (private owned, Rural/Metro) which has a lot lower number of rigs on the road, thus taking it a longer time to get to the scene. This way, care is started, then transfered to the EMS crew once they've arrived. That's just an example of SFD/RuralMetro and how they run... i'm pretty sure most fire depts in onondaga county run ems style calls like SFD. Dispatch is all centralized for the county - 911 goes to a central call location, Syracuse Police, Onondaga County Sheriff, SFD, Vol. Depts, Vol. EMS all get dispatched at that location. Only exception is Rural/Metro who dispatches themselves (private company) - but they don't actually call take, they just get the info sent to them from 911 and dispatch the ambulances. Fire / EMS *can* work together, if set up properly and proper SOP's are in place. happy new year everyone.
  2. I personally find it unfortunate that 60ctl can't override it's CAD. Personally, where I dispatch we run by the rule that "Dispatchers control units... can tell them where, or where not to go... and have the ultimate say" (Well, obviously except for higher-ups/supervisors that can override that) - but it's the disgression of the supervisor. No, things don't always make sense... but if I know I have an ambulance say 1 minute from a call, but the primary due ambulance is 5 minutes away... I'd personally send the 1 minute ambulance, yeah it'll piss off the primary due crew, but we're not here to play "I wanna help the guy", we're here to help people.
  3. I've been looking for a place with a good stream of 46.26... it'd be awesome if you could do that!
  4. Some nice pictures from the journal news of the duel-bird landing. http://www.thejournalnews.com/dailygallery...4/images/10.jpg http://www.thejournalnews.com/dailygallery...images/main.jpg
  5. Just doing some research/curious... Does your FD/EMS Agency have an ID Card? What information is on it? (besides name/rank/id#) Is there any other special markings to show its unique? (IE holigram or anything) Thanks.
  6. yeah I like the signature idea. - how realistic is getting a thumbprint on the id though?
  7. Personally, I always liked Third Watch more... back in the day there was a lot more fire/ems in it... now they're just trying to be like law and order and all the other cop shows... but I still like it better. I feel rescue me is a good show, but over-dramaticizes a lot and over-exaggurates a lot too.
  8. is there any web site that you can look at that has a listing of all of the ISO ratings for departments? Side note: http://www.isomitigation.com/ppc/1000/imgs...USA-PPC-map.gif -- there's a map of all of the ISO 1 Rated Deparments in the US.
  9. At the New York EMS Vitals Sign Conference a few weeks back in Buffalo they announced this at the dinner... I really don't remember where they said it would be though. I'm thinking its somewhere in central new york. Albany could be it too though.
  10. I always take off my gloves before I jump into the drivers seat. Depending the condition of the patient, when we arrive at the hospital i'll either just grab and go (just the stretcher, not touching the patient) or if it's a trama and blood is involved put another pair of gloves on. I always make sure to use the little purell type soap they have hanging around the hospital - - I defenietly never really thought to deeply into the idea that other people could drive with gloves on. Interesting.
  11. Onondaga County you have to call it in to your dispatch - who then sends it to the hospitals through EMSystem.com - this also shows hospital statues (IE: Diversions/different statues such OR Closed.... ) it works pretty streamlessly in onondaga - it's pretty unheard of to just show up at a hospital up here.
  12. In Onondaga County the 911 center dispatches police/fire for the entire county (that includes the City of Syracuse Police & Fire) -- Rural/Metro Medical Services dispatch their own calls though in which case a 911 EMS call for the city is forwarded to them. All local out-of-syracuse calls go to this one centralized dispatch center. It's quite the ideal setup and I personally have not seen any problems with it. It's something to look after for an example.
  13. I agree with your entire statment. Though, I feel the whole EMS system in westchester has issues...not just central dispatching. If you look at CNY EMS dispatching (IE: Onondaga County) - Every Ambulance call is dispatched as a Priority. ALS is sent based on the priority automatically... Not based on the responding crew's disgression. Everything needs to be more centralized overall, though it's hard to just sit down and do that. it's something that has to be done gradually over time.
  14. I was hoping the season would be just like the first episode... it was okay, but no way near to par as the first... but it should be a good season as is. It does look like bosco's going to be cut out of the show though which kinda sucks.
  15. He had multiple gunshot wounds to the body, mainly one that entered his neck and exited the face below the ear. You really should see the season premeire... probably best episode ever. Use Bit Torrent.
  16. Download it with BitTorrent, see above
  17. Thanks WAS. I finally got a chance to watch the episode. I do have to say I'm somewhat enjoying rescue me even though its more drama than anything to do with the fire aspect... but WOW, I forgot what a real show like third watch is. That epsidoe was just amazing! I hope the season lives up to the opening episode.
  18. It was put on early because the Yankee Game rained out! That stinks. Didn't see it.
  19. TVGuide.com says its on at 1030pm
  20. One of my friends has a Digital Rebel. I cannot say anything bad about it. His pictures from the camera are amazing, as well as the settings that he can change on the fly to alter images as he takes them. I'd highly recommend this camera if you are looking to buy a new one.
  21. I've noticed that when the City of Rye gets paged out they notify 60ctl that "the phones and radio have been turned over" So Rye dispatches themselves, then the dispatcher goes on the call? What's the purpose of that?
  22. I'm not sure where this law is, but 99% sure this is the case. Many times someone will be a full active member in one department, and (if agreed by both chiefs) be an associate or some sort of member at another dept and do "mutual aide" to their calls
  23. Millwood won Best non-reg uniform, best ladies aux, and best antinque... Putnam Valley won best tanker, there was no second best tanker. Tarrytown also took home best overall aparatus
  24. x635, I couldn't agree more with you. I know from personal experience even standard shift changes when dispatching can be complicated as the person coming on doesn't fully know everything going on... the person coming off may forget something... so forth, and so on. BFD1054 - I disagree. 60ctl is designed, paid, and set up to be a central dispatching agency for westchester county... they should not be trying to "get rid" of departments so its "easier" on them. 60ctl isnt around because depts CANNOT dispatch themselves... many westchester FDs/EMS agencies could dispatch themselves (IE PD Dispatched) but the purpose of 60ctl is to bring everything under one umbrela to make county operations as a whole better.
