  1. Not really, falling off the roof is only a two foot drop at this point... Haha
  2. I don't know about Hudson Valley but I know some Long Island and Connecticut resources have been deployed
  3. Please explain to me how the individuals in either of those photos could have gone without noticing the hydrants. In the first photo, the driver had to parallel park. Either the driver closed his/her eyes and relied on divine intervention to guide their car in reverse, or he/she saw the hydrant in the rear view mirror while backing up. In the second photo, the driver is parked JUST far enough forward that the driver's side door won't hit the hydrant when it is opened. I suppose that was simply a stroke of good luck? Stop making excuses. People don't care because they are lazy and self important.
  4. Another fantastic example of the self-importance and blame projection of modern society: "I don't have to follow the rules. Its the city's fault I had to block lifesaving safety equipment."
  5. They should be seized and donated to the local FD for extrication training. Towing at the owner's expense, of course.
  6. Thank you to everyone who has worn our Nation's uniform. And for those still downrange, stay safe!
  7. Yes, I meant on the FD side. Not sure what the economics of a HAZMAT 2 would be, nor am I trying to say "The City should do..." I'm just curious (if anyone knows) is there a financial reason they decided to expand HAZMAT Operations out to suppression companies as opposed to staffing another HM company, or is it to ensure more manpower and lower response time?
  8. I know this is a silly question before I ask it... but here goes: Have they ever given thought to opening up a second HAZMAT company?
  9. Wow, FDNY is coming a long way from the stepvans.
  10. "Vacant" structure with someone inside. Take note for the next time someone tells you to write off a vacant building... Nice job YFD.
  11. Morningside Volunteer Fire Department (Prince George's County, MD Company 27) is purchasing a used engine from another PG volunteer company to be the new Engine 827. The current E827 has been deadlined due to mechanical issues. Once the details get finalized I'll post specs/pictures/etc

  13. Just wanted to share the new video for our department: a longer version is coming, but for now we've released a teaser. Morningside Volunteer Fire Department - Fall 2014 Teaser Video Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/morningsidevolunteers?ref=br_tf
  14. Ugly as sin, but hopefully it works for what they need it to do. I've never had much confidence in E-One.
  15. Do HAZTAC buses use the Rescue configuration, or are they separate specs? Maybe I'm just not as familiar with FDNY*EMS' program, but 50 RM units seems like a lot.
  16. Where are the dumps on this "tanker?" Looks an awful lot like an engine to me...
  17. Now if only they can get a federal decree banning those godawful salad bowls... Sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously though, big win for merit based hiring. I'd like to see the SCOTUS go a little further than they did in Ricci v. DeStefano in regards to protecting the legitimacy of the hiring process, but for now: a win is a win.
  18. They'll get all their state certifications then leave to work at a department that pays better. No different than what's happening to a lot of the PDs in Connecticut.
  19. Like I said, I agree it should have been municipal employees not a contract service.
  20. Lets see: Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, CT State, FDNY, Yonkers, Boston, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, DC, Fairfax County and Detroit all use civilian dispatchers. But for some reason it won't work in Danbury? Come on... I agree they should have went with municipal employees supervised by uniformed police/fire supervisors who can make snap decisions instead of a contract service. That I won't argue. But come on, let's be serious here. There is no reason not to go with civilian dispatchers.
  21. There's no such thing as "ordering" people to shelter in place. It's just like a "mandatory evacuation". You won't get arrested for violating it, you're just an idiot. Also, SRS, that word you're looking for is "rioter" not "protester." That's what you call it when people throw rocks, bottles and Molotov cocktails at Police Officers. And if reporters are dumb enough to stand in the middle of a riot, they don't get to complain about getting hit with tear gas.
  22. Probably right around the time Al Sharpton became a Constitutional scholar. I'm a small government conservative myself, but lets be honest; neither stop and frisk (which used to just be called the Terry Stop) nor the DoD's surplus acquisition programs, are harming anyone's liberty. Its the same argument that I make regarding the Second Amendment. Having a gun doesn't make you a bad guy or a tyrant, that comes from the way in which it is used.
  23. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't SRT the tactical arm of WCPD SOD? As opposed to ESU, which is the Rescue/HAZMAT end of things? Just trying to get an understanding. I believe Baltimore City Police Emergency Vehicle Unit runs two similar units mounted on International Cab/Chassis. They are more of a NYPD-style ESU if I'm not mistaken (rescues, EDPs, service calls, tactical operations, disorder control, etc) though I'm pretty sure Baltimore has a separate SWAT team (which they may still call QRT) that focuses exclusively on tactical ops.
  24. If you can get a grant to fund it, a live-in program with tuition reimbursement is working very well for us. Most guys are using it towards paying for medic school.
