  1. Alot of good examples of why we should follow OSHA/NFPA when dealing with HAZMATs here. Thank God this incident didn't turn out worse. Its regretable that the incident turned out the way it did, but at least the Fire Chief is recognizing his mistake and accepting responsibility, unlike the "I wouldn't change anything about the response" attitude we got from a big-city Chief (who will remain nameless) over on this coast. 2. And on the Seventh Day, the Lord started a rumor about a Putnam County Medic Service... Seriously, I'm not holding my breath for that one.
  3. Because citys want medics AND firefighters, without having to pay 2 people's salaries. Its simple economics.
  4. Question to anyone who was there, why does the rescue have the front of the building? Is that SOP or what?
  5. Now that I think about it, that aerial looks VERY similar to New Fairfield, CTs current T4, prior to the refurb we gave it when we bought it from Newtown Hook and Ladder.
  6. Date: 3-11-08 Time: Approximately 0950hrs Location: 7 Backus Avenue (Danbury Fair Mall) Williams Sonoma store Frequency: 46.240 (Danbury Fire) 460.550 (Danbury Police) Units Operating: Danbury FD, Danbury PD, CT DEP HAZMAT Description Of Incident: Suspicious substance found within a store Writer: SageVigiles As of 1150, the incident is still ongoing, 1 DPD officer remains O/S. The mall has NOT be evacuated, only this store is under investigation and is closed off. No idea what units are on scene, but I'd imagine Engine 26 (Closest Engine Co.) and Squad 2 (The HAZMAT rig) are at least there. False alarm, turned out it was the usual "white powder" call, somebody called it in, the substance in question ended up being talcum powder. 7. Rescue 34 from the West Shore Fire District in West Haven, CT carries a full compliment of, well, everything, while still being a transporting ambulance. The other 2 rescues in the city (Rescue 1 and Rescue 27) carry smaller amounts of tools, but could still get some forcible entry done if need be.
  8. Rest in peace. My prayers are with you and your family Brother.
  9. Hey, I used to live right near that place.
  10. I was just about to post this...
  11. Did you try submitting a help ticket? Because thats the proper way to get a technical problem addressed. Try clicking the link for Live Support at the top of this page. Leave a message and one of the technical staff will attend to your issue, or see that it is taken care of if we are unable.
  12. Just another place for criminals to whine about how they got busted and how they think the system is "unfair." This website doesn't really change anything, it just centralizes the whining.
  13. The way I've always been trained is to grab a tiny portion of the suspects pocket and start pulling it out until the whole pocket comes out, thereby making your chances of getting poked slightly lower (but obviously not eliminating them.)
  14. Just wondering if anyone knows where I can get a full transcript of the LAPD radio transmissions during the North Hollywood Bank Robbery in 1997. I found partial transcripts and complete audio, but the audio is too fast to really understand at all times. I'd appreciate any help.
  15. Great pics Kevin, keep them coming. I like seeing what the guys from the other side of "the pond" roll!
  16. PCFD ENG58, Please stop using all Caps Lock. It's unpleasant to read.
  17. You don't have to be an MRT to drive, the snooze-times is full of it.
  18. Idea: Someone start a thread that explains all NYC related abbreviations, and a moderator can Sticky it.
  19. True enough, however the government (State and local) has yet to come up with a way to control 1500+ people.
  20. The first EMTBravo News Helicopter...
  21. Biglew, Yes, State Police has a dive team, but where does it come from? Meriden... I know the State Police have requested their team for incidents in our town, but don't expect a particularly rapid response. You might get a guy who lives closeby to show up on scene and start working, but you'll be waiting awhile for multiple resources.
  22. There IS a special operations unit of FDNY*EMS, they have the Haz-Tac ambulances (HAZMAT Techs) and Rescue ambulances (or Crush Medics, as they are sometimes referred to) who are specially trained ALS units, I believe they are supposed ride in ambulances that are slightly bigger than the normal buses to accommidate the additional equipment (air packs, etc,) though that may not be the case YET.
  23. Wow, that is the most rediculous regulation I think I've ever heard. I'm flabbergasted.
