Okay so if under 21 is too young to drive than what's too old ? You're gonna tell me that the guy who's 75 and been driving for 40 years is still fit to drive your first due piece of apparatus to a working fire. And don't tell me it doesn't happen because I know of a few departments where it does.

I have to respectfully disagree. I drive an ambulance 4 days a week 10 hours a day at my job in New York City and am 19. Prior to driving ambulances I drove pick up trucks/dump trucks with landscaping trailers attatched.I've been driving since I was 16 when I got my permit. I feel that if you can handle the vehicle properly and respect what you're driving than you'll be fine. You have to exercise care when operating bigger vehicles.

Way to go Billy and chief Lena. On a side note besides this award at the hvvfa convention they also got recognition from fasny and the putnam county fireman's association.

Very well put! I was there and one of the organizers of this event.The Driver of the rescue was aware of the surroundings .The event took place before the public was there.I thank everyone who showed up and participated in the event. I just love this site. We better FIRE everybody !! get the facts!

They were numbered that why because we only use 31-11 31-12 and 31-13 as our officer and 9 is just considered a portable radio each bike will have a portable radio assigned to it . I also don't agree with putting 100% volunteer on the bikes my comment was what if somewhere down the line we decide to have a paid crew for daytime coverage ? And the answer I got was we'll just take it off the bikes than. I'm not in charge I don't make the decisions.

15:05 2442 on scene reporting large brush fire moving up hill towards the Heritage Hills complex requesting mutual aid brush trucks from croton falls and goldens bridge also fire police to the scene to close the road
15:09 Engine 180 reporting that the fire is cresting the hill they'll need more manpower
