  1. THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!! If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!! When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill BOTH ways.yadda, yadda, yadda! And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it! But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it! I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had t o go t o the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!! There was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter ...with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there! There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ's usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it! And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister! We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids' and the graphics sucked! Your guy was a little square! You actually h ad to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE. When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just > screwed! Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no onscreen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your a** and walk over to the TV to change the channel; and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little bastards! And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire..... imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot. That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled!!!!!!!!!> You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980! Oh yeah, and a seatbelt was Mom throwing her arm across your chest every time she hit the brakes. Regards, The over 30 Crowd
  2. 12 + minutes!!!!!! I hope I am reading this wrong and that it will and never happened!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I do not think he will be a member of the Philipstown FD anymore By TERENCE CORCORAN THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original publication: January 1, 2008) PHILIPSTOWN - A suspended North Highlands volunteer firefighter, accused last year of stealing gas from the department, faces new charges after police said they caught him engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl in a parked car. William Kivel, 19, of 3501 Route 9, Philipstown was arrested Saturday and charged with sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a minor, misdemeanors, police said yesterday. Putnam County sheriff's Deputy Thomas Corless was on Horseman's Trail around 8 p.m. when he stopped to investigate a parked car, police said, and found Kivel and the girl involved in what police described as "consensual sexual activity." New York state law says people under age 17 do not have the capacity to consent. Corless took the two to the sheriff's substation in Philipstown and consulted Investigator Michael Nalbone before charging Kivel. He was arraigned before Philipstown Justice Stephen Tomann, who issued an order of protection that prohibits Kivel from contacting the girl. Kivel is due in Town Court on Jan. 9. Kivel was charged in October with two misdemeanor counts of petty larceny, accused of stealing 14 gallons of gasoline fromthe North Highlands Volunteer Fire Department on two occasions. A department officer noticed the missing gas Sept. 20. The charges are still pending. Kivel was subsequently suspended from the Fire Department. Fire Chief Charles Nolen said yesterday that department officials were waiting for the gas charges to be adjudicated before moving to officially remove Kivel from the department roster.
  5. You can't make this stuff up!!! Never a dull moment in this business. Got to love it!!! It really opens your eyes to how many stupid people are out there. That's why you always have to be on your toes when you are on a call.
  6. So I am playing with my 14 month old son when he hands me a book. The title is My First Colors board Book. So I open it to read to him and to my surprise what do I find on the color red page,(I knew it was going to be a fire truck) New Rochelle Ladder 13. LOL.
  7. For a Christmas gift somebody got my son a book "Drive a Fire Engine". In it they have New Rochelle Ladder 13, a DC GMC and Rescue 4,White Plains Truck 1, Westchester County Haz-Mat rigs. They also have New Rochelle personal in it. A firefighter sliding down a pole and a head shot of a DC sitting in his truck talking on the radio. "This fire's a big one!'" LOL .The copyright is 1999.
  8. WOW. I do not want to be around that chief Christmas morning when he gets a gift he doesn't like or wants. LOL!! unbelievable!!! They should take his chief car and his rank of chief!!
  9. I was on vacation down in NJ this summer taking a walk when I noticed a chief car(truck) coming down the road, When it went by I saw it had NY plates. We were about 3.5 hour ride and 186 miles from the TZ bridge. When I went for my walk the next morning I saw the truck parked in a hotel lot. It was there for the weekend. When I went home I looked up the name of the department( I didn't know the name when I saw it) it was more then 200 miles away. Also I checked to see if there was any kind of convention going on that weekend in NJ and found nothing. I am all for the chiefs having a car/truck.But not for personal use. What's going to happen when you get into a mva 200 miles away from your covering area? how are you go to explain yourself.? I don't think you are going to respond from that far away. This is a on going issue and has been talk about many times on this site. Now before everybody gets on my case about this, B/C I am a paid FF and that I am just bashing, I was once a volunteer myself, but I moved.
  10. Nice looking truck/engine. Why is it called E-6? I always had a problem with these types of rigs. Whats the job of E-6 when its first due at a call/fire? is it doing truck work or is it doing engine work. I think they are good for small departments and ones that don't have a lot of money. In away you are getting two rigs in one.
  11. Congratulations to all, and with no thanks to The Journal News who I guess were too busy covering the graduating police officers class(nothing against the graduating class of police officers, just The Journal Snooze). This isn't the first time either.
  12. Nice rig.Is it a 4x4? That Q2B siren may be under snow after a good storm. LOL
  13. I was at Target in the Palisades Mall last month with my son, when I saw and heard what I believed at the time, was a man and a woman in a dress talking. Didn't think twice about it till we passed them and I saw that it was two men. The man had a kilt on!!! from what I overheard he wasn't man enough to have it on!!!( Not that there is anything wrong with that)
  14. WOW!! There is a lot of big words in there, I hope all the people that read it at Snooze 12 will be able to understand it. Way to go commish!!! I have the "phone company TV" so I do not get the rerun- only tell one side of the stories Snooze 12
  15. In the commercial they say "The Hess truck Bigger then ever" Great, now toys for our kids are coming super sized.
  16. Doesn't matter who is in office!! Democrats or Republicans, the taxes will, and are always going to go up. The best is when they run for office the candidates always say. If I am elected into office I will not raise taxes!! What happens a year later in office? They raise taxes. That's my two cents!! That about what I will have in my pocket after I pay all my taxes! LOL
  17. I get a kick out of seeing the old pictuers!! Love it!!!!! Keep them coming! The people in that car were lucky, they don"t make cars like that anymore.Don't think airbags would have done any help. It was just plain steel that saved them!! " THERES ROOM TO LIVE" LOL a quote from an old drivers ed film
  18. If you go to e-bay they have a lot of Hess trucks up for auction. I saw a 1970 Hess fire truck(RED) up to $371 with 11 bids so far. Just saw the same truck with a buy it now at $650.
  19. I know that the holiday season can get a bit crazy, but in a way that's the fun of it. The one good part of shift work is that you can go to the malls during the week when it is not as crazy!! If you don't like the malls you can always shop on the Internet, and you don't have to leave your house!!! Just be kind to your UPS/Postal Worker.
  20. With the price of gas the way it is, and if it keeps going up!!! Santa will not be making many stops over here!!!!LOL
  21. That sounds like a huge house!!! How many rigs do they have? "social hall and ball fields" They may want to re-word that part.
  22. Frist the Danbury fair!!! now Marcus Dairy
  23. growing up with Hershey bars, and just as sad for the generations of today. What will be outsourced next? Pennsylvania is a big state, but it amazes me in this day, how some news doesn't make it over the mountain to the front page of our papers or the top Of our news hours in Western Pennsylvania. Milton Hershey, this year, will be joining H. J Heinz in rolling over in his grave. Hershey Chocolate is moving to MEXICO...whoopee! They're even closing down Hershey Canada. Don't buy any more Hershey Bars. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are my favorite and they are made by Hershey. But, I will not purchase Another one! M.S. Hershey had a dream... I will buy my OWN Sugar, Milk, Cocoa beans, (all natural mind you!) and make candy... (no tariffs etc..) EVEN during the depression...HE and the Company made money...NOW some Corporate big wigs are ruining the name... AND the product M.S. created... Please pass it on...What a bunch of college educated "idiots". Thank you M.S. Hershey for all the things I have and all you have done for me and my family..."I" do appreciate it... as for "Dick" Lenny and Company...good luck you greedy, money loving BAST@%$S ...you are ruining the name, the company, and MANY lives in central Pennsylvania.... read on... Enough is Enough! So Hershey executives are closing plants in the US , laying off over a thousand people, and destroying Mr. Hershey's dream, all to cut labor, material costs and AVOID PAYING ANY US TAXES! The company will save about $170 million a year, all on the backs of the American people. The top executives will still make their mega bucks and the laid off workers will have to find other jobs, some probably at minimum wage due to their age. All this to take their jobs to India, China and Mexico, So WHAT part of the "GREAT" American Chocolate Bar is left?...NOTHING! These countries are no doubt laughing at the Americans, who they don't like anyway. How long are the American people going to sit around and let big corporations do this to us? We must all band together and let our Politicians in Washington know we have had it with NAFTA, CAFTA and "SHAFTA" and we won't take it any longer!
  24. Are you guys reading the article? He was driving his own car to the scene, not any emergency vehicle, and he was speeding too!(thats what the paper said). Maybe they alow members to go to the scene in there cars. It sounded like they had enough of manpower at the scene.
