  1. Ugh. From what I have read, I am NOT optimistic. I fear this will just become another radio that goes unused.
  2. I stopped in to Baltimore on the way back from a wedding in Rockville a month ago. We stopped in the inner harbor to visit Hard Rock and the Aquarium. Too bad we didn't have more time to spend, I would have loved to poke around a bit more.
  3. Is Scarsdale a combination department or are they all paid?
  4. Even tho it wasn't official, we had several members of the TRT working with the PRFD on a rescue off the side of a hill at the bottom of cliff a few months back for a person who fell about 70 feet. It was all well done and professionally executed.
  5. The article had no pictures. Can someone take some pictures of the memorial and post them here? I'd be interested in seeing them. I don't get down that way often. so seeing the wall is unlikely.
  6. Yeah....between there and the BMBR, the area keeps CVFD and PCVAC busy with car accidents.
  7. If anyone missed the first few episodes, can get them for you. I think I still have them here on the computer, but if not I can get them off BitTorrent for ya.
  8. What are the major advantages/disadvantages between rear and midmount sticks? I would think a midmount stick would offer more stability no? What pother ladders locally have a rear mount ladder?
  9. Thanks for all the info....I appreciate it...I didn't realize there were so many rear mounts in the area. I guess I just never really noticed before.
  10. Wow. Sounds like another big worker for the village. Any word on the extent of the extrication or the injuries?
  11. Oh...and yes I love Family Guy too. It has no equal. For those who might not be aware, Family Guy is comming back with nnew episodes in 2005. They have already started recording the sound, and the animators should be getting to work soon. I can't wait. For those of you who heard there was going to be a feature length movie, it's been converted into a three part episode for the new season. I count the days till they arive. And yes, I believe they are comming back to FOX.
  12. Unfortunatly, TV has no rewind so it has to end sometime. But I do have it on home on DVD. Too bad we have no DVD player handy at base.
  13. I'd love to see jthe Paramedics show on DVD.....too bad they had to focus on the "uncensored" portions.
  14. Sorry....it was 4am and I was trying to setup an email only machine and I just needed to rant. If anyone needs help "cleaning house" on thier windows machine let me know....I've been doing it a lot lately. It's amazing how much faster a machine runs just by clearing out your temporary internet files.
  15. Maybe now they will reinstate the 5 day limit.
  16. Hmm...I might just have to check it out the next time I'm through with Family Guy and Futurama.
  17. The "in" style of rig around here (northern westchester) lately has been PL Custom. I'm not sure what it is since I've not been involved in purchasing a rig, but the VACs around hear are buying PL Customs left and right. Heck, I can't remember a new rig being deployed around here by a VAC that wasn't a PL Custom is some time.
  18. Is that guy still going? Geez....how many consecutive wins is he up to and how much has he won???
  19. I've been doing a lot of investigation into AOL 9.0 and spending a lot of time online with customer support at AOL trying to figure out what half the crap is that they load into memory when you bott your computer. AOL just plain sucks. Don't use it unles you absolutely have to. I uninstalled it from my laptop and wow did it run a lot faster. AOL loads modules into memory everytime you turn on your machine. Modules that you shouldn't have to put up with. I suggest you ditch AOL 9.0 and complain to AOL customer service. I was going to downgrade AOL 8.0 but ripped out most of the "crap" and things seem to have imporved, tho they are not 100%. If not for the wife, I'd have given AOL the boot a long time ago.
  20. But this states that people would need to yield to Blue and Green lights. Hmm....this would indeed cause some confusion. People don't get out of the way for the Red lights and sirens. What makes people think they will get out of the way for a blinky green or blue light? And what of the idiots who think they own the road because they have thier green or blue light going? I refused to yield to a blue light jocky one day because he was driving like a total idiot. Too bad I never found out what department he was with. I would have loved to chat with his chief.
  21. But in other areas I know of, DPW workers cover a significant amount of the call volume during the day. Elmsford and North Salem come to mind. Heck, in Elmsford, the fire department is dispatched on the DPW channel! :-k
  22. There has been some mumbling out of Dutchess/Putnam about Alamo starting up a helicopter with a Sikorsky already purchased. No verification made. Should be interesting if they are doing that, considering they can't handle what they have already.
  23. Okay. In an effort to liven up discussion here in the training forum and to make you think a little, I want to introduce a new concept to the forum (appologies if someone else thought of this earlier and mentioned it, I don't recall). We can call it the Problem of the Month. This one came to me while sitting in a PHTLS class this past weekend in Westport, CT. You are called to the scene of a hunting accident. It is in the middle of bow hunting season and someone has been accidentally shot with an aluminum rod arrow. You arrive to see the man's hunting buddies running around frantic, not sure what to do.They just look at you and yell "HELP HIM". You approach the man to find him unconscious on the ground, not breathing (apneic) and pulseless. There is an aluminum arrow sticking out of the center of his chest. Exposing the chest reveals the arrow has penetrated the center of chest, right in the spot where you would normally place your hands to do CPR. His friends say the incident happened 5 minutes before they called, about 11 minutes ago. What do you do now? (A cop is there with you and secures the scene.) [My focus is on the obstruction and how do you do a resusitation in this case. Don't get off on a tanget about how you think one of his buddies shot him on purpose, etc etc]
