  1. Has nothing to do with it being a all female group the problem is the lack of proper certification for everything !!!!! I say good for the ladies if they are interested in helping the whole community not just one specific group
  2. Get to the hospital quicker ? You can't swing a dead cat in NYC without hitting an ambulance !!!!!!!!!
  3. So , where is the. Con for the area , the doh certification for the flycar and the comment are they available to just the Jewish community ? I love they can do whatever they want whenever they want and circumvent all rules and regulations and hide behind religious beliefs
  4. It has been beaten to death and I wonder how many other news agencies are going to be contacted if he is such a dedicated member of the squad he showed his true age by when he got busted by the rules instead of takin it like a man doing his time and then coming back to try and make the proper changes to the rules he quit !!!!!! That is the bottom line some one said it before why did he send first crew out for arm laceration redirecting them from the first dispatch of seizures ? Wtf so I'm done getting off my box now
  5. I feel that with the development of new gear and hoods is that not feeling the heat we are going in farther than is safe due to the total encapsulation of the ppe I agree that you need to read the fire to monitior ever changing conditions to adapt and adjust to keep safe especially with the new types of construction materials that are being used ,but when its too hot for the ears its time to leave
  6. I think the point of x1243 response was that they changed the name but still send bls trucks to priority calls then requesting als from another agency that should have been dispatched in the first place that's all different paint same old ways . I hope for the people that I know that work there everything turns out great for them and wish them the best
  7. I will try to post them in a couple of days from my DROID phone
  8. Well Im going to put my two cents in to the mix. I think the point trying to be made is that being a young apparatus operator yes, you may be responsible , and trustworthy and you can back up the truck in the cones well but what about you are going out for the possible fire are you really going to take your time and drive with due regard for public safety or is tunnel vision going to take over and you are going to drive like a nut ? Fire apparatus weighs from 40,000 lbs to up to 80,000lbs ! that is illegal for most roads in alot of towns with most road and bridge limits of 10 tons or 20,000 lbs . In evoc the tell you about stopping distances and weight shifting plus what scares me the most about driving , killing someone who wasnt paying attention to me and having to possibly live with that for the rest of my life not to mention possible jail time and injuring anybody in my crew . This is not to slam the 19 yo kids who operate but it applies to everyone who wants to get behind the wheel .I think the best post was from mbendel that when you join you should want to learn everything about firefighting that you can and learn to drive when you get older whats more fun playing with fire or driving i prefer fire !!! oh and ps im 38 started driving apparatus when i was 24
  9. I keep looking for the expedite button on my dashboard but i cant find it !!!! What really drives me crazy is having to switch over to med 9 for communications with xyz on the scene cause we can treat pts thru the radio !!!!!!
  10. You would think that in the economic times that we are in you would want t respond to more calls to justify th budget in place already to support the amount of apparatus that most departments keep on hand as for paying for class it is still covered by nys doh and if you stop doing ems calls you would lose the first responder status and would have to pay for all ems classes so dont know this situation is a double edge sword as a taxpayer i would wonder why you are not doing ems calls yet asking for a brand new rescue truck for 750,000 (not circleville ) but just in general . the best for the public is (im gonna get bashed here lol) consolidation of services so that the money spent on services and trucks is worth while instead of going 3rd and 4th dispatch for a call and you get one truck off the floor and you still have 4 more pieces of apparatus left.
  11. When it comes too the topic of sharing a back board to get back in service i dont think it makes a difference whos name is on the board is it special because your name is on it ? Still does the same job right ? it will eventually make its way back to the hospital you transport people to. If people are just taking backboards to bring them back to their station that is not cool but taking one to get back in service i have done it for years and i will still continue to do it ! sorry maam cant take care of you at a mva didnt have the backboard with my name on it !!
  12. When you are trained as a emt you are given the cookie cutter responses to all situations, working with seasoned medics and emts can make you a very strong emt, also doing transports to start your ems career you can read the charts of the pts and you get take a set of vitals with your eyes closed ! then aafter a year of transports you can get a 911 shifts so your card is not still wet when the tones drop and nys is always 20 years behind in the field of ems so that will never change unless we want it too
  13. I always love to se how everyone complains about the cost of a ambulance contract how anyone can make a living when the ambulance is getting paid only 35,000 a year plus penalties for not responding in a certain amount of time yet what about the average in one fire district anywhere of the almost one and a half to two millon dollars worth of fire apparatus that has to be replaced every 10 years or so and there is no penalty for fire depts on a timely respone ? why is that ? if no one shows up we will go to the next fd and hope that they can respond the line between the fd and ems needs to be broken so we can all work for a county wide system just my two cents and yes i am a volunteer firefighter for about 16 years or so
