  10. For whatever reason, a majority of American's have gotten complacent. While those of us who are in Emergency Services and are constantly reminded of the event's of 6 years ago, most people just continue to go through life with blinders on. People outside of NY, DC and PA, have no idea of the devastation we incurred. TV just can't capture the reality. While we will never forget, we must ensure that nobody else does either.
  11. When the first plane hit, I was in my mother's kitchen. At that point it was thought to be an accident. I was at the County office building when the second plane hit. There were groups of office workers huddled around radio's and then word came about the Pentagon. I left, got my son from my mom's and told my wife to come home from work. We watched the carnage on Fox News and listened in horror on my scanner to the NYC citywide transmission's. Fast forward to today, working for DHS, making sure that things like things like this don't happen again. NEVER FORGET!!!!

  16. What is going on with Fire Services? First no beer allowed in the firehouse, now no prostitutes? How are FD's going to attract recruits without these "benefits"? Sorry to make light of these situations, but sometimes the lack of common sense makes you sit back and say what the hell.
  17. I wonder if cart retrieval will be added to the agility portion of the next P.D. exam...lol

  19. It doesn't really seem much different than wealthy people hiring private, armed security to protect their family and property.
  20. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Calling all cars, calling all cars...to Hooters -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, August 23rd 2007, 4:00 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An upstate town was left completely unguarded when the bulk of the Deerpark Police Department hung out together - at Hooters, officials said yesterday. The Hooters, a sports bar known for its buffalo wings and buxom, scantily clad waitresses, is at least a 35-minute drive away from the Orange County town of nearly 8,000 citizens. "There was not ample coverage because of personnel reasons," Deerpark Police Chief Bill Werner admitted to the Times Herald-Record of Middletown. Most of Deerpark's 18 cops went to the Hooters in Franklin, N.J., last Thursday. Even more embarrassing was a handwritten flyer that circulated among the department's male officers advising of the "Hooter's Run" and telling anyone interested to notify Werner. "All invited!" the note declared. It was unclear if the invitation was extend to the department's three female cops. Werner blamed the brouhaha on a scheduling snafu. He said two cops were scheduled to work the night of the Hooters outing. But one of the cops had been suspended and the other would not work the shift alone. A state police trooper was on call to cover the town Thursday night in case of an emergency. None apparently occurred.
  21. Good Stuff!!!
  22. Perhaps there should be a thread for "venting". Just a place to get things off your chest without offending anyone that does not choose to be there. Just my opinion.
  23. Is there an EMS union, not affiliated with FD? All of the examples you gave: PD,FD (career) and DPW all have union representation. I am not an advocate for any union, but I'm not aware of a PBA/FOP equivalent in EMS.
  24. Also starting next month on MyNetwork, (CH. 9), "Jail", from the guys that made COPS...Looks like another good one.
