  1. Sorry if I offened you... its just my nature...tone it down I cant. I can tick off people by a look !.. others had views on this, quick to critic mis statements or edits in the press... thats ok right .... I knew no one else would comment on this for this very reason , but i felt the need to set the record strait...

I guarantee most of the Transcare medics in WP have far more experience and medical knowledge than the brand new medic PD/FD medics who, let's face it, never got into their line of work so they could practice advanced medical procedures and assessments. No one has any problem with it ....

Who can make a statement like the one above , with no knowledge of what is going on. This guy Guarantee"s it .... <<< But does it come in a box ? is the guarantee written on it ?What if you are wrong ? should nobody call you out on it ? eff that !

How about you tone it down a little, people have questions and opinions

    Enough said about opioions

instead of talking down to people and taking it personal

Its not Personal Sunny, Just bussiness ! and your taking it way to personal.....

Its nice to see this program is up and running, available on an initial dispatch ! No call out or call back, in service and ready, hopefully never have to use them. Thats how all the comments should read in this forum...

  2. if only Half of you knew what you were talking about ! Some one else said it real good egoooooooosssssssss. Get over it ! Brand new medics (some are) ... Do you see some of the cops in the pictures... any idea who they are ????? Where they work on the side ????

As far as mis quotes on other posts in this article

With Transcare handling patient care in White Plains where do the Rescue guys get their patient care experience in?

One would think they would want to integrate the local EMS agency in their drill. This would have been a perfect opportunity for PD and FD to include the real medics, not because of any tactical advantage (although there might be some),

I guarantee most of the Transcare medics in WP have far more experience and medical knowledge than the brand new medic PD/FD medics who, let's face it, never got into their line of work so they could practice advanced medical procedures and assessments.

Simply put your wrong ! On the PD side the ESU Medics (4) have a combinded 45 years of ALS/BLS experience

Does that mean the "Rescue Medics" will be continuing patient care onboard the Transcare rig on the way to Westchester Medical Center? The reason I thought the local EMS should be integrated into the drill would be to work out the transfer of care to the transporting medic.

Yes they often jump in the rig on Major traumatic or medical calls.

Since when did the FD or PD become a DOH certified ALS First Response Agency and/or train there guys to be paramedics? Last I knew both agencies were operating at a BLS level.

Some of you ask questions as if something was overlooked ! Do you really think, a city of this size has not worked out every angle. before implementing a Advanced Life Support "Rescue Medic Program"

They have rescue medics in WP? Very cool. Anyone know where I can find more info?

24/7/365 SWAT Medics or FAST Medics or combinded depending on situation

and From what i understand Cross Trained<<<<<<shock wave

It could have been editing or the Commissioner misspoke when he said, "... Other than NYC, and particularly in Westchester; we are the only team that will have the ability to provide emergency rescue assistance."

There are a few teams in Westchester that can provide, "emergency rescue assistance." In all fairness, the editing was quick and could have cut him off mid sentence or before he elaborated on the statement.

It's nice to see that they have 6 Paramedics in addition to 6 EMTs. Very nice

Just curious Who else in Westchester has combined Pd/FD ALS Rescue Medics ?

  3. I'm sorry but I just don't see the logic in taking an Eng. Co. o.o.s. to put a Rescue in service, no matter how slow that Co. may have been. It may look good on paper, until that Eng. Co is now needed at 3:00am for a Job with people trapped in its previous 1st due territory and it's nowhere to be found. I don't care how well trained and equipped a Rescue Co. is, they can't do much without water and I'm sure those whose house is burning would feel the same way. Why take out of service a piece of equipment that is responsible for extinguishing fires and replace it with a gigantic tool box! JMO.

Prior to Rescue 88 a full assignment was 3 Engines and 1 Truck //// Now a full assignment (structure fire) is 3 Engines 1 Truck plus the Rescue. That is an increase, not a decrease ! Engine 68 (aka E4) did not have a first due response area. when Station 4 closed (probably 30 years ago), E70 absorbed Station 4's E68 (Aka E4) area .

p.s. congratas to wp on the new ISO 1 Rating ...

  4. They did not take an engine out of service ! They added One of the best trained and well equiped Rescue Company's in Westchester ? Going from an engine who hardly ever took a ride, to a very active Rescue co. is a no brainer, it spread around the work load ! I am no expert on how it works, Engine 4 can be manned by on duty fire prevention people fast.

  5. good for the residents, but are they aware of how unprotected they are with such little staffing in that City? I guess ISO does not include staffing levels in the equation just hydrants and response times.

Actually the criteria is a little more complex. A lot of good people worked hard on this. Exagerating on how unprotected residents in WP are. Is just not true. I know I can send A full assignment to my mothers house in under 5 minutes 24/7/365 and another 2/2 in under 8 min. Would an extra man on every truck help ? Sure. I would rather have a contract ! All my fire protection went to a parade tonight ! Residents in WP sleep tight ! I will being checking my smoke detectors !

  6. Did White Plains recently revieve an ISO class 1 rating? Prior to this I thought Syracuse was NY's only ISO class 1.

Yes White Plains is ISO 1 ...

That was my porch on fire last night!!!!!! So let me state for the record, the Fire and Police Departments in the City of White Plains work in unison like a fine Swiss watch. The response time to this emergency was dazzling and super efficient in every respect. The Police whisked my family to safety while the Firefighters extinguished the flames in a nana second. High tech equipment was brought to bear capable of detecting the faintest heat from the smallest of ambers. Trust me on this; buy a ticket the Fireman and Policeman’s BALL, if your butt on the line these are the people to CALL. Go WHITE PLAINS!!!!!!

  8. roads),

Dont know, but it did not effect field units and it appeared to be well coordinated. 60 Control was able to get us the help we needed and every call was handled. Boy was I surprised when E66 and L32? arrived at an alarm with me on Union Ave. I was not sure till they arrived who they even were. I cant remember WPFD responding to calls in so. NR before.

I can only speak for myself, But im sure the answer would be anytime.

    Thanks for the reply.

  9. Many of the career depts. (EFD, MVFD, NRFD, YFD, Others?) are not using the trunked system for incidents in there communities (because we have our own radio systems that work better for us). Last month when NRHS was on fire and we had LFD, GFD, EFD, SFD & WPFD in town responding to multiple calls (due to major storm), most have our radio and that worked great, 1 or 2 were trying to contact us on the trunked system, which was not in use.

EFD, NRFD & YFD set up there systems prior to the county system and in NR's case because we were told by the county that the trunked system would not do what we need a radio system to do.

On a more positive note, last spring we had a highrise fire requiring about 6 different MA EMS agencies. They used the trunked system and it worked perfect for coordinating that component.

    Hey Captain,

Very interested in this incident, and how it worked out for you? I was off, as usual, and have some questions? From what I read from the original incident alert, you were very busy, and in the end it all worked out well. jc a tornado in the vern.

Who was dispatching the M/A units?

    What channels were used?

If you were not using trunked system.

    Why not?

And in the future could it be utilized better for incoming M/A units?

Were they using the same channel, as the incident working at the high school?

When M/A units where dispatched into Pelham

Who dispatched and how did the coordination go?

Phone line from Pelham Pd to 60, and then radio to responders?

I am quite sure all the Dispatch centers were swamped.

How was all the coordination between Dispatch centers?

Would a system like the police hot line or mars radio help communications between Dispatch/Call centers?

    Especially for the urgent ones?

In know way is this bash, just looking for personnel info. And hope this generates good ideas for future incidents.

P.S Please no one talk about 1 county wide dispatch center.

    Thank You in Advance

  10. Carmel actually just got a trainer last year. I think the ambulance did do stand-by's but not anymore if we get a call for a football player that's injured at the game they tone us out we aren't that far from the high school anyways it's literally two seconds away from the ambulance shed . And when I played for the last three years the nurse was at the games in case somebody got hurt at the varsity games nobody is there for the other levels jv and freshman .

Texas Tom I hate to burst your bubble, I can give you the date and time if you wish. But last year at a kent knights vs yorktown game. I Immobilized a 12 year old for over 22 minutes on the field waiting for your ambulance, thats only two seconds away.

  11. Private Property is Private Property . Not Welcome is not Welcome. What is the issue. Regardless of intentions. I would not want an ems intercept on my property either. In fact after being told to stay off my property. I would have the flycar towed off, at the owners expense. After being notified, and you continued to use Private Property. ever hear of criminal tresspass. Use common sense. I am sure this was not a one time intercept. It has to be a culmination of events.

The church was being used as a routine intercept point. Intercepts to the lame person causes a sense of alarm, panic and curiosity. Obviously not wanted at this place of worship. Common sense would tell you not to use schools, churches and businesses. What is the issue Find another place, get over it. Who are you to impose your will on others. If you are looking for a safe place to perform intercepts. Go out and get permission from property owners. For pre designated intercept points.

Forget about what is not written

    Quote from article

local ambulances and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital paramedics have been put on notice by one church in Waterford that they are not welcome on church property to perform emergency intercepts.

I like how the author of this article starts out by saying, KEY WORD on church property. Then prefaces the next paragraph, with left on side of road

    Quote from article

You may have noticed a paramedic truck left along the side of a road or in a parking lot from time to time. It's never there too long. It means one of your friends, neighbors or a loved one is gravely ill and needs a higher level of care than EMTs on the ambulance could render.

Now if the truck is parked on the side of the road, or the intercept takes place on the side of the road, The issue is dead.

It is also real funny to me. That people have a negative opinion about this church, not wanting this service provided on their property. But in adjacent countys ALS fly cars are not allowed to park, stage or use some of the firehouses that they serve, and work with. Go figure. wbs

  12. I like the online form that Orange/Rockland utilities uses to report emergencies. Looks real easy to report numerous trouble spots at once. On this side of the river you call the Con Ed control room. When its busy they don't always answer right away. They just get overloaded.

As far as reference material goes. I use a one stop, complete source, inter-departmental web page. It was designed by one of our guys, it works real well.

  13. osw

Of course everything is based on what the caller can tell you or describe. The time I got burned, the call-taker put the job in as a 10-37 and in the remarks they typed something like, over-heated fan smoking. First due was the Batt, (Batt2 on here I think...), and he had a 10-29 and requested we fill out the assignment. It was on Saw Mill River Rd. Hasn't happened to me since...now they all get full assignments because I am not there and can't trust someone else's observations to be accurately relayed through the game of "telephone"

I know that game well. You say your not there. I guess that means your in a seperate room. Good or bad thing for us we do it all from the same room, all calls for pd/fd/ems are taken and dispatched within feet of each other. I can easily pick up on and listen to all hot calls, or just talk to the call taker. I can give quick updates on additionial call ins also. It amazing sometimes how a few extra questions can help. yea smoke in the hall way, can you describe it ? white smoke, maybe from cooking, or black acrid smoke like somethings burning ? " well its white smoke"' smells like Ms Jones burning dinner again in apt 5J" Thank you I will send the FD. Gets the same full assignment, but with better info.

!10-32/33/35 (activated alarm, sprinkler activation, fire alarm sounding <persons in premise calling in>): 4E, 2L, 1B

on some activated alarms the Rescue goes...like Hospitals and maybe nursing homes.

WOW 4 & 2 With the amount of "workers" you get i can see why. For me I have not dispatched a worker since March of 04

just lucky. Dont worry it wont happen, I have said it before.

About NYSPIN, I don't get to do that anymore...only inquiries in Yonkers, there is a "special unit" that handles the entries and exits...Used to do that when I worked at the County though, kind of miss that work...broke up the everyday with something different and a little more in depth. That midnight thing is tough, I used to hate when Yonkers sent out all the file 13's at once, you'd be in the middle of a rap sheet for pistol permits and then this File 13 unrelated would end up in the middle of it!

pistol permiter w/ rap sheets oh boy,yea the 9 pin state printer is annoyin, im sure all 942 psaps in county love it also. We recently got the interface for cad, much better, gone green lets say, easy to read on monitor also.

later suns almost up have a good day

  14. Sorry i thought you did the nyspin entries on midnights.

Oswego and jbe what kind of response does the yo/nyc send for a elec short/burnt plug/ balist no fire. No smoke. General elec emergencies vs a structure fire ? do have selected codes to generate automatic responses ? does a general fire alarm get the same as a structure fire ? thanks in advance.

    Good topic osw

  15. I think you have all the ems done. What would i do?

enter the call as a construction accident, that will generate a fire/police/ems call .

units that would respond from that

1 ladder, the rescue, police esu, patrol, als ambulance

if more needed special request, that dispatch will put at least 4 emts on scene not including the ambulance, also put all the necessary tools on the job from the get go.ladders,stokes,ropes.

from that i see notifications to

    building dept

    osha

  16. I see a few key words, smoke and sparks, could easily turn into a fire in the wall. I would try to ask a few more questions, enter it as a Structure Fire That would generate a full assignment, 3 engines 1 truck and the rescue. If they had said my electric socket burnt out and its not smoking no sparks no fire. I would just enter it as an alrm 1 and 1 depending on the building type some buildings automatically get more. Dispatch it right away with all the info, update the deputy for his reccommendation

For me its real easy to fill out an alarm

But dont delay send them out.

What tools 1st arriving units bring ? I would have to say everything. on occasion I have had to send them to out at 4am on alarms. 1 and 1 depending on building type. They come in loaded for bear, full ppe, standpipe kit, irons, thermal image, water can, ropes, hydraulic door popper,ABC extinguisher, hooks probably more. Thats what i dont understand ? cause I have already had a cop check and advise. see above post

    could not resist

    sorry oswego

thats the way i would probably do it on saturday night when s is hitting the fan,

but you know, like me, mondays are for the QBs Have a Good Day

please stop all the serial fives sixes and twenty fives midnights ha ha

I edited for a little more clarity
