  1. I just spent 15 minutes trying to break the 350.4 mark, we all must be easily amused.
  2. good point mstrang1, but they do look good, and just because they put them all on the rig doesnt mean they have to use them all. Im sure they are all operational, but you never know, they could just be for show.
  3. x635, I think that is probably one of the stupidest things I have heard in a long time. What would happen if he stepped down, they transfered, and then he got reelected? Would they then go back to self dispatch because he is the chief again?
  4. the regional stuff is all great, but how bout stabalizing the patient first? Then they can be transfered by some commercial company if they want specialty care. Less strain on the 911 system, and much better for the patient IMO. I once got QA'd for a call of a person hit by a vehicle. The patient had a leg fracture, no other complaints, other than his leg really hurt cause he could see his bones. We put him on the board, whole 9, and took him to the local hospital. I was asked why i didnt take him to a Trauma Center. What good is having a hospital in your community if you cant bring someone with a broken leg there? People dont want to go to them because they are trying to become some specialty place instead of focusing on the everyday individual who needs emergency medicine.
  5. IMO some of what Westchester does isnt too bad. I think the engine numbering is good, and it shows when the most of the bigger cities keep their designated numbers. The ladder numbering is rediculous. Why dont the Ladder numbers start in the same place the Engines start? And a ladder, whether its a tower or straight stick, is still a ladder. The duplication in that respect needs to stop. The Rescue numbering is also bad. A fly car is not a rescue, regardless of whether it is used for EMS. It is a utility at most. Maybe if we just got our acts together and fixed the numbering, some of the communication problems might go away because u would eliminate the duplication and know what u were getting when you ask for a rescue and get a fly car.
  6. Guess this means even longer lines waiting for a bed in the ER. Maybe some of the other hospitals will soon pick up on the need for a bigger ER and some more ER Docs. Im sure its going to cost some money up front, but i would think that the money brought in by seeing more patients might actually help? Anyone else with an opinion on that?
  7. Great point CFD320. I think my earlier point kind of hit on that without saying it. If you cant trust someone or work with them, its kind of hard to put them in charge of keeping you alive.
  8. rwc, are we bringing in a second and third due engine to put out the fire that results, lol. Im all for that,
  9. IMO its based on a combination of both. Everyone wants the most qualified person, but if that person is difficult to work with then they arent going to get the votes they deserve. People will most likely vote for someone they like, who isnt a "hard a**" but still has the training that someone in charge should have. I think in this day and time, regardless of how qualified someone is, if they cant work with the rest of the members then they arent going to get elected to the position. There is a lot of give and take, and in that respect popularity comes before qualified but with that same respect, qualified also comes before popularity. I think that made sense.
  10. I agree, Third Watch is better suited for police stories. The fire stories were usually very brief and few and far between. I definatly will have to go with Rescue Me.
  11. im guessing that it depends on what stream u are using, and what kind of pressure. i cant see it being all that effective though
  12. nope. i have a few of them, i got them early, before they jumped to 150 to 200 per. I dont think u can find any for much below 150 at this point.
  13. Ill take one, lol.
  14. Rescue Me will be back for a Second season, when it will start or how long it will run is unknown to me, but season 2 will eventually be on the air.
  15. Pelham and Pelham Manor are also on the New Rochelle Frequency. I agree, listening to 46.26 does get very annoying with everyone stepping all over each other, and the dispatches IMO do the best job that they can given they are sometimes fighting with the self dispatching departments. I think those departments might be better served if they put the person at the radio back on the rig and had them respond instead of talking on the radio all the time.
  16. When 60 dispatches for a FAST team, is that a specific set of members or is it just interior certified FF who end up at the house first?
  17. Dr. Zuki, The question of combining departments has been a big one in recent weeks in Pelham, but has actually been one of those things that comes up every 5 to 10 years, between both the Police and Fire Depts, and after all is said and done, more than likely nothing will change anytime soon.
  18. YonkersR3, I like that idea. I think the people of Yonkers would be much better served with minimal cost to the taxpayers.
  19. Its all about the JETS!!
  20. DFFD227, Sorry for the misinformation. Another point though. Why would they go on some Medical calls with 306 and not others? Why is 306 different from the other engine companies? If the Rescue and the Squad are specialized companies, then why not always have them available to be utilized wisely? If your not going to use the Rescue for medical calls, IMO you shouldnt use the Squad for them either, they carry specialized equipment as well.
  21. DMA, I think the rescue doesnt go on EMS calls because there is an engine in the station with it. But that is a good point, why not send the Rescue on EMS calls, especially when its returning to quarters from jobs on the East side that it never makes it too. Maybe Yonkers should invest in some Global positioning equipment and use the Rescue a little more.
  22. R1, whats the point of not sending them to 10/30s on the West side? Is the squad going to take the place of the rescue on the East side, so the Rescue will stay in service? Seems to me that you would want your most qualified guys at every job. How often are there more than one working 10/30 at the same time, Im guessing not very often. I would think that if there was a 10/30 on the west side, the squad would be best put to use as the FAST team, with all the equipment and tools on it. Whats ur take on that?
  23. Any update on who is making the new Squad, and when delivery can be expected?
  24. Batt. 18 was at the Mt Vernon structure fire today. He called on scene, and stayed off the radio. Called 60 to notify them the fire was under control, and that mutual aid was being released before placing himself back in service. Seems to me that he did a good job, sitting back and waiting till the IC need something, while being able to communicate directly with the mutual aid companies that were standing by at station 3.
