Malverne FF Died during Sunday Training

Don't know the Firefighters Name, was watching Channel 7 news before and saw a Piece on a Malverne L.I. Firefighter that was killed this morning. During Routine Sunday Morning training he was on top of the Rescue and it was pulled out without knowing he was on top of it. He was crushed by a "Beam" supposedly. Don't recall all info but low Garage door clearance was reason, crushed in-between Truck and Building. If more information can be obtained would be appreciated. He was a 6 year member of the Department.

N.Y. firefighter crushed to death at work

MALVERNE, N.Y. -- A firefighter was crushed to death Sunday between his firehouse and a rescue truck being driven by his chief, police said.

Paul Brady, 42, was doing routine maintenance on top of a Malverne Fire Department heavy-duty truck when Chief Robert Meyer, not realizing Brady was on it, drove off and caused Brady to fall, Nassau County police said.

Brady, who was wedged between the truck and the building, suffered massive trauma and was taken by a fire department ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Meyer, 58, was not charged or cited. Investigators believe Brady's death was an accident, police said.

The Highway Patrol Bureau performed a safety check on the rescue truck and then returned it to service.

Today, we at the Malverne Fire Department have lost a brother Firefighter and the people of the Village of Malverne have lost a dedicated neighbor in a tragic training accident. Paul R. Brady was a member of the Malverne Fire Department for over six years. He loved his job protecting his friends and neighbors of this great Village. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Lisa, his father, brother two sisters and family.

Firefighter Brady, while training, was caught between a fire apparatus and a ceiling beam of the firehouse. He was immediately taken by the Malverne Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Nassau County University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

We here in the Village of Malverne and the Malverne Fire Department ask the citizens of Malverne and this state to pray for Paul and his family. Thank you.
