THIS IS THE ONE IT IS MODELED AFTER (AND I AM LOOKING TO SEE AND PHOTOGRAPH UP CLOSE AND IN PERSON)[[/b

Port Authority B&T Wrecker

This took quite a while to complete, and although I'm not as happy with the results as I though- I know the reason why...stupid stringy hot glue. BIG mistake. Other things too, but I learned. This was my first scratchbuilt body plus.

Check out the rest of the photos from throughout the kitbash here.

What did you use for the scratch built body? How did you mold it?

I used Plastruct ABS sheets of plastic and ABS plastic I-beams, cut them to the needed shape, and glued them together. Where there were gaps, I used Elmers wood filler.

Thanks, I'll try that... What would you suggest in place of your hot glue mistake? Rubber cement or crazy glue?

Maybe use LockTite super glue instead of hot glue and bondo instead of wood filler? What about an airbrush for the paint? Either way she looks pretty slick to me! cool.gif

I have the LockTite, it's a PIA, looking for something faster acting. Maybe Testors Dissimilar cement. I used Testors Plastic Cement for the plastic parts. The Bondo is a good idea.

I painted the body using an airbrush. (Testors Mighty Mini Airbrush system)

I need to get a better single action airbrush handle though.

I know there is a whole load of different types of glues @ Home Depot. There is a really good epoxy called JB Weld (comes in 2 tubes that you mix together and have about 5 - 10 minutes to work with). You can do whatever you want with it - drill, sand, scrape, etc. and its as strong as steel. I've used it around the house a number of times. Only issue is, it takes 24 hours to set completely. You may want to look into it only because its stronger as heck and you don't have to worry about being 100% neat, as you can always sand or touch things up with a dremel later on. I highly recommend bondo, that stuff is useful in so many different applications, plus i have a feeling it will adhere to plastic much better.

The super glue I used for one of my previous modeling hobbies worked far better then any other super glue I have used to date.

It works great on plastic and metal, holds strong, drys fast so you dont have to hold parts yet gives you time to work with the pieces if the first time is not too successful. It works great on for the application inn which you will be using it.

It can be found here: http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefr...&GameNav=300810

its a tad expensive for the amount you get (at least to a teenager with no income) but a little goes a very long way.
