Another Crown Vic crash and burn

2 posts in this topic

From "The Secret List"

A Police Officer was killed in Prairie View, Texas on Sunday when a pickup truck

slammed into the rear of his parked Ford Crown Vic and it burst into flames. The

car model has come under increasing criticism over its safety-but has offered a

free modification shield that apparently prevents the problem. We are forwarding

this as many FD's use the same style car.

Since '83, 18 police officers have died in similar incidents. We are not aware

of any FD's having this occur but sadly, P.O. Christopher Sobieski, 39, died

this past weekend while parked on the shoulder of a highway watching for

speeders and DUI's. The cops are awaiting results of a blood-alcohol test on the

truck driver, who was not hurt. The CV's design makes the fuel tank wrap around

the rear axle in a crash, making it prone to puncture. Ford claims dozens of CV

patrol cars are struck from behind annually-with no fire. But-in response to the

tragic crashes, Ford fits the police package model with gas tank shields at no

cost.  Unfortunately the local Police Chief said he wasn't aware of the free

repair kits-so we figured maybe some FD's and Chiefs were not aware either.

On ours, we did get notifications from Ford and did get the modifications. We

are sending this out on TSL just in case other FD's aren't aware of the repair

kit being available at no charge.

How could you NOT be aware?
