Westchester ME's Office Open Investigator Position

Located in the Department of Labs & Research – Valhalla: An incumbent in this position is responsible for independent and confidential investigations of deaths that result from criminal, suspicious or undetermined causes.  The incumbent conducts on-scene investigations and in-hospital investigations by interviewing witnesses and recording detailed observations of the scene and obtaining physical and trace evidence.  Investigations are also performed to confirm or disprove the results suggested by autopsies and toxicological analyses.  The incumbent also assists in performing professional laboratory work in the investigation of evidence related to unusual deaths.  Tours of duty cover any period of day, night, weekends, and holidays; incumbent may be called for any county emergency.  General supervision is received from the Medical Examiner.  Does related work as required.

REQUIRED: Either:  (a) a Bachelor's Degree* in Forensic Science; or (B) a Bachelor's Degree* in Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or healthcare related field, plus one year of experience working in a forensic science laboratory, a mortuary establishment, or in a satisfactory field involving work of an investigative nature**; or © a Bachelor's Degree* in Criminal Justice plus one year experience working in a mortuary establishment, a clinical laboratory or a forensic science laboratory; or (d) an Associate's Degree* as stated in (B) plus three years of experience as stated in (B); or (e) an Associates Degree* in Criminal Justice plus three years experience as stated in ©; or (f) certification as a paramedic issued by an accredited training institution plus two years of experience in the field; or (g) possession of licensure and current registration issued by the State of New York to practice as a registered nurse.

SUBSTITUTIONS:  Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* toward a Master's Degree in Forensic Science may be substituted for the one year of experience required in (B) and ©.

*SPECIAL NOTE: Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York State Education Department as a post-secondary, degree-granting institution.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.

**SPECIAL NOTE: Performing work of an investigative nature would include work performed as a police officer, detective, corrections officer or as a private investigator, etc.

NOTE:  Unless otherwise noted, only experience gained after attaining the minimum education level indicated in the minimum qualifications will be considered in evaluating experience.

SALARY:

$48,270 - Starting Salary

$60,040 - Maximum reached in four additional steps

Sounds like a "DEAD" end job. HA HA. Had to do it BABA. Did you put in the part where you have to work 100 days in a row?

60K is not including shift differential and holiday pay.

Again not mention all the Carry Downs you have to do in Yonkers, Ossining, Peeskill, Mt Vernon, New Ro and so on. Probably with no help from anyone. That sounds like it is worth 60K. LOL
