"Train Thief" Darius McCollum Released From Jail

The following information is for informational purposes only and should only be used for situational awareness:

The MTAPD has been notified that “Train Thief” Darius McCollum will be completing his maximum expiration sentence on July 4th, 2007. Due to the Fourth of July Holiday, he will be released from the custody of New York State Department of Corrections a day earlier, Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007.

He has completed his sentence and will no longer be under Parole Supervision.

No further information is available at this time, however

all members of service should be aware of Darius McCollum’s status based on his past history.

Approximately 5’11” tall, 215 lbs

Short cropped black hair

Light Mustache and beard

History:

McCollum has been known to impersonate transit/railroad workers and has gained access to MTA facilities and trains in the past. The subject often wears clothing or uniforms associated with the MTA and has pretended to be an outside consultant/contractor. The subject is well versed in railroad jargon and has a working knowledge of rolling stock and railroad/transit rules and procedures. McCollum claims he has been stealing trains since he was 12 years old. At the age of 15, he was arrested for the first time for stealing a train. McCollum was arrested 20 times for Grand Larceny and Impersonating a Transit Worker.

McCollum was released from the NYSDOCS Sing-Sing Correctional Facility on 06/06/2006. Prior to release McCollum was authorized to transfer his Parole supervision to North Carolina where he has been residing with his parents at [omitted in post], Winston Salem, NC 27105. On 08/25/2006 FIIU was assigned a lead wherein McCollum had attempted to purchase an official looking badge from a law enforcement equipment & supply company. No law was violated and while Parole officials declined to violate McCollum for the incident, they did recently tighten his Parole conditions. He was rearrested for violating the conditions of his parole on April 11, 2007. He most recently resided at the Fortune Academy Halfway House located at 630 Riverside Drive, NY, NY

Is he the same kid that managed to take the A train for a ride a few years ago? I had head of a kid who showed up in uniform claimed to be there for overtime and was able to get an assignment. Officially he only made one trip before disregarding a signal light, but a friend who is a huge subway buff said he made a few round trips before being caught, though the city would never admit to that.
