Marlborough to honor firefighters

5 went 'above and beyond' in home blaze rescue

By Greg Marano

Poughkeepsie Journal

MARLBORO - Two people were trapped. The firefighters had little equipment and even less time.

So they kicked the door in and, without any breathing aids, charged into the smoke-filled home to rescue the two elderly residents, all before the first fire trucks arrived.

For that, five members of Milton Engine Co. No. 1, who arrived first that night, will be recognized with the Pride of Marlborough Award.

Firefighters Stephen Rivieccio and Gary Lazaroff, Capt. Allan Koenig, 1st Assistant Chief Gael Appler Jr. and 3rd Assistant Chief Todd Werba will receive the award tonight.
