What should the ideal 1st due Engine have on it??

What kind of equipment should a 1st due engine have on it??

1500 or bigger pump??

1000 gallon tank??

seating for 6 people total?? Dont need to have all your guys on just the 1st truck to the scene

Plenty of hose. 1.75 and 2.5 crosslays. 3" and 5" inch supply hose

Thermal Imaging Camera and Gas Meters

Normal Forcible entry tools and others

Maganesium Extingusher (Audi and Mercedes car fires)

What else do you think a 1st due engine needs??

Ideally, IMO (In My Opinion) the first due engine should have

short-wheelbase

Air conditioning and heat that you can actually feel

1750gpm Hale (even 1750 is pushing it, anything above that is a waste of money)

750 gal (car fires, plus with todays tank configurations 750 cant hurt that much, except the added weight)

pump panel with a logical layout, and NO intakes or discharges near pump panel

conviently located discharges and intakes

Jake Brake

easy accesible PM/daily check items

Seating for six people, with engine co tools accesible from the cab

Above adequate scene lighting, including a "brow light"

TIC- Should be a truck company tool

Enough spare bottles to change everybody once

front bumper trash line

ACCESSSIBLE hosebed and crosslays

Thats all i can think of right now

of course a tripple combination that goes without saying.

1000' of 5 " 2 200' preconnect lines off the bumper. this is becoming a big thing now that way ya pull straight and easlly deploy the lines. as well as 2 extra lenghs as needed

250" preconnected 2 1/2. 300' 3" suppply to sets of irons. a radio for every seat. rabitt tool, k- tool. 2 cans, a dry chem, a 8 lb sledge assorted hooks to dry walls as welll

ladders 1 roof, 1 24 ft 1 attic ladder. a highrise pack, as well as assorted couplings. fome educter and 5 cans of foam to start

500 gals of water and 1250 gpm pump

after all we all know how those guys on the waggons are afraid of a little fire without an a** load of water behind them

How about a knowledgeable operator. Positioning is everything. If an apparatus is in the wrong spot it becomes a $300,000 crowd control barricade.

It all depends on whether or not you have a truck company responding to back you up.

Assuming you do have a ladder (or any other apparatus prepared to operate as a truck company) I would want the following:

ATTACK LINE PRECONNECTS:

3 2 1/2 in. apartment packs, with smooth bore nozzle

1 2 1/2 in 250ft crosslay, for smaller taxpayer jobs or a back up in a residential fire, with saberjet nozzle

1 1 3/4 200ft crosslay, for residential fires, room and contents, with saberjet nozzle

1 1 3/4 150ft. front bumper kentland pack (E271, E273 utilize this pack and it works extremely well) This is the primary line for car fires, rubbish, etc. with auto nozzle (and 1 1 3/4 roll to be added if additional is required)

1 1 1/2 100ft trash line, with auto nozzle

SUPPLY LINE:

1000' 5in LDH

400' 3in

ADDITONAL:

400' 2 1/2

400' 1 3/4

2 lengths hard suction

1 short 5 in LDH (either 50' or 75')

Seating for 6

1 Can, 1 Dry Chem

2-3 Cans of AFFF foam w/ inductor

Street Salt in the winter, Misting adapter for PPV fan in the summer.

5 Scott Packs, with spare bottles

Fireground Radio for every FF.

1 Set irons, Boltcutters, 2 6ft hooks, 1 3ft. boston hook

flashlights for each FF

1 24 ft. extension ladder, 1 12 ft. roof ladder, 1 scissor ladder

3 spare nozzles (2 smooth bore, 1 saberjet)

1500 GPM pump, 500gal for suburban/urban....1000gal for rural.

1st Due Pumper:

1250 GPM pump

1000 Ft. minimum Supply line

400 Ft. minimum Attack line

3 to 5 preconnects- from 1 3/4 to 2 1/2

at least 3 lengths of hard suction and pony suction

A Deck Gun!

A 14ft ladder and a 24 ft. extention ladder (1) attic ladder

Air full line of forcible entry tools

Brush fire tools

Floating pump and portable pump and generator

At least seating for 4, hopefully more like 6 to 8

Air packs for every seat and spare bottles

Assorted Handlights and scene lighting off the rig

Portable radio for each seat

Extra nozzles (preferrably smooth bore)

Assorted fittings, reducers, and water appliances

Water can, Dry Chem, and class D extinguisher

alot of people are talking about these big pumps 1500 gpm or bigger. well as it is nice to say we have a 1500 or 1750 pump is kool. is it really practical or cost effective? how many gallons of water is actually needed to put out that 1 or 2 room house fire ?

the house is 3000sq foot. yes there are exceptions as well as those commercial fires

take into consideration what type of pump u have. what size water main your operating off of. how far do u need to lay in. what is your friction loss going to be and what type of nozzle do u have on the line? as well as how far ya need to strech that line from the wagon.

if u cann't do it with the one engine at 1250 its probablly gonna need more than one enging and your gonna have to work off of a different main

put that money u save into something else u need
