Yonkers Reported Gas Explosion 7-21-2008

4 posts in this topic

IA from last night:

http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=26630

It turns out this incident did not involve natural gas.

Apparantly an occupant in the premises set off a BUG BOMB (literally!) which resulted in an ignition.

Lessons Learned:

Aerosol insect foggers can be EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE!

Many of these contain propane as a propellant and under certain conditions can create an explosive atmospheric mixture.

If you must use one of these, follow all label directions and remove ANY potential ignition source prior to discharging the contents.

To be honest, when we got the job in the radio room we thought the lady was well...you know...But we sent out the "Building Collapse" assignment and when L70/E314 got on scene they said the screens and window fans had been blown out of the windows and some of the ceilings in the apartments had come crashing down. Fortunately no one was injured as a result of "Darwin of Crestwood Lake". Thanks to Con Ed (Jim Feeney) for the extremely fast response. Oh and in the future, people should read the instructions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
