MOUNT VERNON — Firefighters battling a fire in a two-family house on South Street today uncovered a very large marijuana cultivating lab spanning two entire floors, Police Commissioner David Chong said.

“It was a very, very sophisticated operation,” said Chong, who estimated the value of the drugs and equipment at more than $100,000. “It contained a very elaborate duct system, heating system and food for the plants.”
