EMS Standby Service For Special Events Only-An Interesting Concept

5 posts in this topic

Saw this at a street festival......Paramedic runs this as his side business. Pretty neat idea.

(There are so many special events in Austin every weekend, Austin-Travis County EMS will not pick up the tab nor diminish service to it's area to service these events. EMS has a lot of funding due to good managment (starting pay of $20/hr w 23 year retirment). So, the organizers of this event are responsible for contracting out. However, this is a first-response service only. ATCEMS will respond like it's a normal call if needed, and also shift more units to the area if needed. )

They do, however, handle the larger scale events in the city.

Not that uncommon. One of my old employers had a side company called "Event Medical Service." That's all we did, event standbys for all of the local sports teams, concerts, college sports, etc. When our company was sold to AMR, they dissolved it. The old managers re-incorporated it a few years ago as National Event Service. They still provide all of the first aid for the Phillies, Flyers, Eagles, etc and all of the concerts at the major Philadelphia venues.

Uh, the answer is in x635's post. It's a FR agency only, they still have to call for a transport.
