Al-Qaida link in failed plane attack

8 posts in this topic

DETROIT – A Northwest Airlines passenger from Nigeria, who said he was acting on al-Qaida's instructions, set off an explosive device Friday in a failed terrorist attack on the plane as it was landing in Detroit, federal officials said.

Flight 253 with 278 passengers aboard was 20 minutes from the airport when it sounded like a firecracker had exploded, witnesses said. One passenger jumped over others and tried to subdue the man. Shortly afterward, the suspect was taken to a front row seat with his pants cut off and his legs burned.

The White House said it believed it was an attempted act of terrorism and stricter security measures were quickly imposed on airline travel, but were not specified.

Without going into specifics, there will be more heightened security measures for the near future. The best thing you can do if you are traveling is: get to the airport early, pack smart for carry-ons, not a lot of clutter and listen to the directions that are being given. When in doubt, put it in your checked luggage.

Maybe now the news will focus on something other than Tiger and talk about this attempted terrorist attack that just happened...or maybe not.

I'm flying to Scotland in a week or two, they better not try anything... they're not likely to forget the last time they were stupid enough to try that...

I hope you feel alot safer when you see my 90 year old grandmother in an isolation booth and no shoes on, getting the metal detector wand treatment, WHILE two, 20 - 30 year old, middle eastern men look on with smiles on their faces, knowing that their "civil rights" were not violated.
