MEMS to continue providing service to district

The Mamaroneck Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) signed a contract this morning to renew it's commitment to serve the Mamaroneck Ambulance District, said MEMS Captain Nikki Deshensky. They have signed a 3-year contract with a 2-year option for extension

I'm missing something. If MEMS didn't sign the contract, what else would MEMS do all day with no calls to respond to?
